DGO, MD, MRCOG, CCST, Accredation in Colposcopy
Gynaecologist, Kolkata
Irregular mens at this age is usually due a condition called polycystic ovaries. Your daughter needs to get a few hormonal tests done- fsh, lh, prolactin, tft, testosterone and a pelvic usg. Further treatment will depend on the results.

With 4 month pregnancy do not try medicine at home. Go and admit in hospital it may be fatal for you even. It's like mini labour.

My wife is 26 years old with no medical issues. We were just wondering what would be the ideal age for trying to have a baby. We don't want to rush, but don't want to go to a critical age too (that increases complications). Please tell.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
25 is ideal but few years before or after is okay 25-30 is also not bad but after 35 there is a raid decline ti functions of ovaries which generate less eggs. After 35, for 1st pregnancy every mother to be has to undergo a genetic test on fetus to rule out down syndrome.

Dear sir/mam, my frnd is 26 year old and he did unprotected sex with a women (may be prostitute). He did this mistake first time in their life. He did sex for 20 seconds to 30 seconds and ejaculate. And there is no injury on penis and no blood comes from vagina. But he is depressed now, what if that girl is HIV+? He don't know. So what is the probability of getting SDT like HIV? After how many days he will take test? please give suggestion what to do? When he will go for test. He did sex on 2 may 2016. He is totally depressed.

This medicine is for breast problem? Tell me.

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello- hormonal disturbances causes breast secretion in a non pregnant female. You might also be facing menstrual disturbances along with this as breast milk and menses are interrelated to each other. Start herbal medicines like patha, shatavari etc which can correct your hormonal difference in your body naturally. Don't go for allopathic hormonal treatment as it may further create side effects on your body. For specific ayurvedic treatment you can contact me if want to.

I am having less menstrual flow for 2 months. I was under a lot of stress and had sleeping problems. Can this be the reason? I got worried.

MD-Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Sexologist, Haldwani
Hello lybrate user- oligo mennhorea or less flow during menses might occur due to two causes, first if you have developed anaemia (low hb count) or you have experienced sudden gain in your weight. Another factor responsible is pcod. Try these medicines, it will improve both your menses flow and your headache. 1) dadimadi ghrita 1 tsp twice daily. 2) kuberaksha vati 1 tab twice daily.

Your genes are making you prone to PCOD! + How you can manage it

Factors that are making you prone to pcod! + how you can manage it

A problem of the body's endocrine system (a system of hormone producing glands), polycystic ovarian disease (or pcod) affects about 18% of indian women. Women in the age group of 15-30 years make up the majority of the victims of this disease. Although the root cause of this problem is still unknown, it can be a result of:

1. Genes

A family history of pcod can increase your risk of developing the endocrine disorder. Even a family history of obesity or diabetes can increase your prospect of developing pcod.

2. Low-grade inflammation

Inflammation occurs when the body's white blood cells (wbcs) produce substances to fight harmful matter that attack the body. A disruption of this natural response of the body can cause low-grade inflammation (a mild but sustained inflammatory response brought on by microbial bacteria called endotoxin). As a consequence, it causes the stimulation of polycystic ovaries to create more androgens (male sex hormones) than female sex hormones. This brings about the appearance of pcod symptoms such as ovulation problem, growth of excessive body and facial hair.

3. Excessive insulin production

Excessive insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas) production occurs when the cells of the body become resistant to insulin. It causes an increase in the production of androgens, in turn affecting the ovaries' ability to release eggs during ovulation.

4. Obesity

Although not a direct cause of the disorder, being obese can increase your chances of pcod significantly. The excess fat in the body can worsen your insulin resistance, and can consequently bring about an increase in the androgen levels, causing weight gain in the end.

5. Unhealthy eating habits

Irregular meal timings and poor eating habits (a diet rich in sugars and carbohydrates) can make you prone to obesity, a risk factor of pcod.

How to manage the problem of pcod?

Although the condition doesn't have a permanent cure, the symptoms can be easily managed by employing these ways:

- limit the intake of refined sugars and carbohydrates to counter the imbalance of insulin and glucose

- exercise for 30-60 minutes a day to boost metabolism for weight loss as well as control of insulin levels

- avoid coffee and other caffeine stimulants that may cause an increase in the production of insulin

- avoid dairy based products and red meat

- include lean meat in your diet

- avoid saturated fats (found in baked foods and lamb, cheese and other dairy products) to control your cholesterol levels

- consume foods that have a low glycaemic index (a scale for determining the effect of food on blood sugar level) such as brown rice, wheat pasta and wholegrain.

My last period was 10th march. Still I did not get period. I consulted one gyne Dr. She suggested me to take duphaston 10mg for 5 days I started it 20th april but still I don't have period pls suggest.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Gurgaon
Hi lybrate-user. If you are not responding to progesterone then most likely it's an estrogen deficiency. You should most likely respond to estrogen therapy. But before that please get n ultrasound scan of pelvis done to see for endometrial thickness. Depending on the result I will help you out. All the best.

Recanalization can be done for that but success rate is less and chances of ectopic pregnancy and reblockage are there.

Hi lybrate-user Normally for first baby, it may take upto 22 weeks for you to feel the first kick. You may start feeling some bubble like movement earlier than that. Do not worry. It is an awesome sensation, and you'll never forget that first kick So enjoy every stage of the pregnancy.
