Dear Jyotsna, Congratulations for taking care, understanding and helping your husband for 6 years. Please let me know, what medicines you were giving him to avoid alcohol. It may be Ativan kind of tablets. Is he now dependent on Ativan or some other sleeping pill? He may be still in depression and that is why he is still dependent on pills. He needs proper treatment for depression along with getting him out of sleeping pills. Otherwise he may shift from one dependence to another to get some relief from depression. Please take help from the doctor who gave medicines to avoid alcohol. He may help you to diagnose depression or sleep disorder in Vikas and help you out.

Please suggest me some medicines or anything so that I can quit my smoking habit.

Dear, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you?re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse?no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn?t easy. But it?s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

Your notion is really wrong. Sometimes all it takes to lose weight is only exercise. You need to move and sweat to lose those extra kilos. If nothing is working stop everything and turn to exercise. Join a gym play some sport, get active. There is no excuse.

Good Morning ~ Stresses can take the best of a person and make him into a depressed or anxious person who is non functional. It seems like you have recognized the fact that you are depressed. One way you can probably approach the situation is to find ways to cope better with the stresses that you are having. You will find time to ponder over the subject and come up with unique solutions if you do mindfulness meditation. I believe that you also will get rid of the internal health problems (you have not mentioned what they are), if you focus on distracting your mind from weaknesses and concentrate on issues that are helpful for bringing you back into a non-depressed state. Medications are helpful, however I recommend reading more about depression so as to come to proper conclusions regarding the necessity for treatment from a psychiatrist.

Dear, you must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly. Please post a private question to me and I will help you with" effective learning" techniques. Take care.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Bipolar disorder, with its extreme mood swings from depression to mania, used to be called manic depressive disorder. Bipolar disorder is very serious and can cause risky behavior, even suicidal tendencies, and can be treated with therapy and medication. Please work with your psychiatrist for a cure. Take care.

I loose concentration in studies day by day. When ever I start studying. I lost somewhere and think of other things instead of studies.

CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break. These are the general guidelines for concentration, studying well or doing your job. Regards.

Hi. It takes a lot of conviction and courage to stand by what one has decided and in your case you have stood your ground, be proud of it! your pain is understandable, you are probably feeling betrayed, hurt, confused and even rejected. It is difficult and painful to let go of a relationship that meant so much to you and to have it repeat again, can be devastating. Be gentle with yourself and don't indulge in self doubt. Any relationship is based on respect, trust, care and understanding, open communication being vital element. If you sensed that there wasn't much honesty from your partner, then trusting him would have been difficult. Don't blame yourself over it. You are very young and there will be many opportunities to meet the right kind of person for you. Concentrate on building up your career goals and close relationships (family and friends), this will provide a sound holding or support for you. If you still find yourself upset for longer time then consult a counsellor/psychologist to explore further. Take care.

hi, I can empathize and understand your situation . The problem is surely due to the side effects of the drug. You plz ask your psychiatrist to prescribe some medicine to reduce this problem. As far as the damage to the kidney problem I would suggest you to get the renal function test (RFT) done. It will show you the correct status of your kidneys. Along with this I would advise you to drink a lot of water in day time and reduce the quantity of water intake after 6:00 pm so that your sleep won't get disturbed. Also go for a brisk walk daily for at least half an hour. Regards Sunita

I want convince her but I couldn't convince myself to start the conversation. One day I forcefully tried but brain stopped working. Couldn't get right words out of my mouth. Please advise me something. Because of this I couldn't achieve anything great in my life. I feel very low and weak whenever something is bothering me. I read inspiration books and all the motivational stuff a lot. I try to fool my mind nothing worked. Its not like I fail in every situation. I can see a lot of initiatives in your behaviours, which I could rarely see in many individuals of your age group. But, the problem is, may be, due to performance anxiety which hinders your performance and thereby reducing your confidence level. Let me give you a suggestions to overcone your problem. 1. First thing is, you have to understand and accept the fact that everybody at your age has to go through such kind of anxieties in their life. Even officers holding higher ranks experience the same anxiety reactions when facing their superiors for further advancement. The fact is, you are exaggerating the shortcomings. 2. Learn and practice some yoga techniques like asanas, pranayama and meditation from a qualified teacher. This will help you manage your physical arousal due to anxiety such, as rapid heart beat and pulse rate, increased breathing pattern racing of thought etc. To a desirable extent and therby help you remain calm in such situations. 3. Set smaller goals you are trying to achieve, and mentally rehearse a particular activity again and again, for ex. Your interview situation. Also practice mock interviews with the help of your friends/parents or even your teachers. This will help you to face the actual situation in a relaxed manner to a great extent. 4. If you achieve and reach a good position in your career life, your girl friend will automatically fall in line with you (because of your higher confidence level and her increased confidence level too on you). Until then, do not bother about her. All the best.

Clinical depression in any neurological patient is common. Since your father tried to attempt suicide also, it is severe depression. He needs antidepressant treatment. It will take around 3 weeks for him to improve and agree for surgery. The surgeons will wait since they want your dad to improve after operation. With depression even after operation, the improvement will be slow. Please request your neurosurgeon only to find a psychiatrist for your dad at the earliest. Otherwise you can also find one in online site. Please don't leave him alone at any time. Remove all objects which he can take to attempt like tablets, knife, etc.

First of all you have to understand one thing that its very crucial time for career to both of you, you should focus on long term objectives rather than focusing on short term objective But on your side you are not wrong every one wants to spend time with their loved ones infact you love him so much that inspite of not meeting him regularly you are able to continue such a beautiful relation this shows the deepness of your love because now a days with decreasing moral values many relations are ending in 1or 2 years. Now lets come to your problem talk to your boyfriend normally and say your feelings and say him that you want to discuss this matter ,listen his problems and try to convince him but don't be in agressive mood listen him patiently, both of you can take help of counsellor also. I'm a 20 year old male, recently having severe anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, and fear for no reason. I've been noticing new white hair on my head daily, and my eyebrows seem to be thinning quickly. I also feel great stress for no reason and breakout in nervous sweats randomly. Any help is much appreciated, curious if there is some connection between the hairloss/color change and the stress, or if its just an anxiety disorder. I should note I've always had a slight anxiety issue, but never this bad, worsened in the past several months.

In modern life, the word stress is not new. Almost everybody is in stress, be it financial, personal or professional. According to ayurveda, stress is that situation of your mind when it is imbalanced. If you are not under stress, then your mind will be relaxed and stable, and it can perform everyday activity normally. Hence, when you are under stress, ayurveda has a solution for you to relieve you from stress and lead a normal life.

5 ways through which you can deal with stress with the help of ayurveda are

Take a bath
Although bathing is your daily habit, yet by bathing you can control your stress levels. When you take a bath, it helps your body to release tension and relax the nervous system. While bathing, you can add 1/3 cup ginger powder to the water. This will increase the healing and relaxation process. You can also take epsom salt bath as that too will help you to relax and cleanse.

Practice oil pulling
For removing the natural toxins from your mouth and increasing your sense of taste, you can gargle with warm water toasted with coconut and sesame oil. Start by swishing the mixture of oil. You can swish the oil from the front to back, side by side and throughout your teeth for about twenty minutes. After spitting the oil out, you must rinse your mouth with warm water.

Do abhyanga
This is an ancient practice of oil massage where you use oils to calm the nervous system and rejuvenate the tissues by lubricating them. With this self-massage of oil, you can promote circulation of blood throughout your body. Abhyanga is a practice of rejuvenating your body through massaging the different parts with organic oil. There are different types of oil in ayurveda that are used for various purposes.

Practice nasya
This is another technique in ayurveda where medicated oil is applied to the nasal passages. When you practice this, the delicate nasal tissues are soothed and relieve stress. However, pregnant women and menstruating women should not practice nasya. Every morning apply a few drops of nasya oil to your nostrils for getting better results.

Massage your feet before bed
Another way to relax your body from stress is by massaging some oil before sleeping. For this, you may use brahmi oil, bhringaraj oil, or sesame oil. With this practice, you can soothe your body and release the pressure, thus getting relief from stress.

You must try these everyday so that ayurveda can relieve you from stress. However, do not forget to get to experts if you still find yourself under stress.
