Hi I have high blood pressure and diabetes as well. Though both ate under control but since last few days I am having some problem with urine. Every time I need to put extra pressure to do the urine. I am 70 years old. Please suggest.

Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), MS - Urology, MBBS
Urologist, Ahmedabad
Dear , as you are 70 years old first thing that comes to mind is enlarged prostate. Do you have get up to pass urine during night? if. Secondly, as summer has set in do you drink enough water? if urine output drops in summer you might have to strain a bit to pass urine. Next point is: are you constipated? is your stool hard? so increase your fluid intake, if you are passing hard stools then avoid constipation. If you have nocturia then consider prostate problem and urine examination. If it shows that you are retaining urine after passing urine medical treatment like alpha blockers should be considered. While peeing my urine comes out in two streams. What is the reason of this problem?

MD PHYSICIAN
General Physician, Delhi
While peeing my urine comes out in two streams.
What is the reason of this problem?
Bifurcated stream of urine could possibly be due to urethral stricture, which is one of the commonest causes. It is possible that the scarring could be blocking the outlet causing the stream to split and deviate, thus causing the other discomfort. It could also be due to a condition called prostatism, in which an enlarged prostate gland compresses on the urethra causing bifurcation of urine. Consult a urologist for the same.

Ask your local doctor. He may advise you to reduce the dosages. But I feel you BP has not come down enough to warrant a reduction in dosages. If you can reduce your weight to about 59 kgs that may be the time you can think of reducing medication. But do so only after your Doctor agrees to it.

Lemon contains citric acid which decreases the acidity of urine; this prevents the formation of calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. Lemon juice helps break up kidney stones and dissolves them so they can pass easily from the Kidney to the bladder through urination. Too much intake of lemon juice in a day is not good. Normal water you can drink. Daily 3-4 litres of normal water intake is recommended. Boiled and then properly cooled or Luke warm water is preferable to drink. Homoeopathic medicine like berberis, Lycopodium, Hydrangea, etc which helps to dissolve stones easily and eject out through urine. No side effects in HOMOEOPATHIC MEDICINES.

Dear lybrate-user Thanks for sharing your concern. If may be due to dryness of vaginal passage which causes friction and bleeding or may be a urine infection. Initially for 15 days you could use KY jelly or vaseline to lubricate, thoda may reduce bleeding after sex. If blood is still present then consult Gynae for further test and urine culture.

You should aim to drink 2-3 litres per day so you are well hydrated. Limit salt intake. Reduce intake of animal protein. Avoid food high in oxalate such as spinach, nuts & get enough calcium from food if your body have tendency to form renal calculi again &. Again its better to go for scientific homoeopathic treatment in which medicine is selected after detailed history.
