I would like to examine the patient in detail & investigate. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid, vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried. Do hot fomentation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Bio d3 max 1 tab od x10. Make sure that the patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that patient is going to take. For emergency treatment contact your nearest hospital or family doctor. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful. Use no pillow under the head.

I am 52 years old. I am a contractor and buy with my construction work. Unfortunately from last 1 year I am suffering from osteoarthritis. I am having pain below my right knee. I can't walk for long distances because I get pain below my knee. Six months before I started to take parijata devotion daily in the morning for 45 days. After that the pain reduced to some extent but not completely. Kindly advise what I have to do to get rid of the pain completely. Thank you.

Hi apply pranacharya restopain oil or prasarini oil on your affected part then give hot fomentation. Take maha rasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. And agni tundi vati and maha yograj guggul 1-1 tab twice a day.

Joint pain is a very common problem with many possible causes - but it's usually a result of injury or arthritis.

It covers:

1. Pain in just one joint like knee joint. It can be due to osteoarthritis. It is quite common in older people but it can sometimes affect younger people, especially those who are overweight or those who have had serious injuries to the joint in the past.

2. Pain in many joints, most commonly the hands, feet and wrists. It can be due to rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, viral infection that causes arthritis.

for viral infection you should do regular warm saline gargle. have homemade freshly prepared lemon juice which is rich in vitamin C thereby increasing your body autoimmune system which prevents infection. regarding TB consult a medical specialist for schedule of treatment and follow it. and colour blindness consult eye specialist.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Most of your conditions needs attention from a general physician/diabetologist but I can advise you regarding your knee pain. Even your foot swelling probably does not have a musculoskeletal cause, but still I can tell you that persistent swelling in foot region can be due to deranged kft, lft, thyroid profile and issues with heart. Sometimes even chronic protein deficiency can lead to persistent foot swelling. Looking at your age, I would think that if there are no external s/s of inflammation, then knee pain would be due to degenerative changes setting in the joint. Please catch hold of a good physical therapist and do intensive knee - quadriceps and hamstring ex, avoid sitting cross legged and squatting, use a western toilet etc - take adequate calcium and vitamin d as per your body's requirement - daily walks for 2-3 km per day in morning should help you. You can take a short course of a safe anti-inflammatory medication - hot fomentation at home 3-4 times in a day might also help in your knee pain but mainstay remains exercises please send me both knee ( ap & lateral) x rays so that I can see and advise you accordingly. I have a pain in knees. When I work continuously in office with chair I feel so much pain and I also feel pain in neck.  Sometimes I take pain killers but it gives me a temporary relief. I also use some kind of balm on it but the same thing happens again and again. Please suggest any method how to control excess pain in knees and neck.

According your age tk calcium supplements and avoid strain for neck pain do heat fermentation and stretching exercise and avoid long sitting and toward bending. For knee pain. Tk heat fermentation and rest avoid long standing and put a towel under knee and press for 10 sec and release. For both pain tk muscle relaxant medicine.

Get X-ray or MRI done to rule out any structural joint abnormalities. Meanwhile, gentle massage over knees with lukewarm herbal pain relieving oils daily for about 15-20 minutes and hot fomentation afterwards will greatly help in subsiding the pain. Ayurveda’s Panchakarma offers specialized treatment of JANU BASTI for knee pains - these procedures would give strength to your knee and reduce the pain and stiffness. Regular oiling the joint will improve the lubrication also. Use knee caps over the joints and avoid over exertion of the joint. Avoid sitting crossed legs. This will greatly help. Hello lybrate-user, don't panic you're too young you will be alright, go to a Physiotherapist and learn exercises first isometric and then progress the excercises. Go join in a sports academy and find a football coach. All the best.(Not just strengthening quads, hams,vmo, but ask for ckc exercises)

I am a long distance runner. Run approx 10 km on an average 5 times a week. But I am experiencing tremendous pain in the ITBS since a last few months. Every time I run a half marathon I get swelling in the ITBS and I have been taking enough rest but the pain aggravates again if I commence running. I can't afford to stop running and need a permanent resolution. Please help!

Denial is not a place you want to spend – or waste – your time. Trying to ‘run through it’ will not work. Taking a few days off running to rest it generally doesn’t work either. Unfortunately ITB pain has the potential to be a long term problem if you don’t get on the front foot and take action at the first sign of a problem. Of course, it should go without saying that taking these actions on a weekly basis even BEFORE the first sign of a problem is the best plan of attack!
