Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help for your sister. Well, given the radiological findings, its advisable to consult a breast specialist for correlation first. He/ she is likely to recommend further diagnostics including an FNAC/ biopsy as would deem appropriate before deciding on the way forward. For the time being, she may apply a little bit of hot/ cold treatment that may help alleviate her pain. Keep diet and lifestyle streamlined, and stay well hydrated. You can connect with the diagnostics for further integrated traction (alternative medicine) as would be contextually required in her case. Hope this helps. Do take care, and all the very best.

Regular pap tests i.e. Tests which look for any signs of cervical cancer should be conducted regularly so that it can be detected at its initial stage and can be treated accordingly.

Meri mummy ke berest cancer hai or 2nd stage hai or doctor ne bola hai inke 2 operation ho sakte ak pura breast nikalna hai ya berest mai jo tumer hai usa nikalne mai bhi thik ho sakta hai dono operation ka result same hai iske liya advice chaiye ?

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Howrah
The two operations are 1. Mastectomy- whole breast along with the tumour is removed 2. Lumpectomy- only the tumour with some normal surrounding breast is removed in case of mastectomy, if the tumour is small (<5 cm) and axillary lymph nodes are negative, then usually no radiotherapy is given. But in case of lumpectomy, it is usually followed by radiotherapy. In both situation the survival remains same. The biggest advantage of lumpectomy is psychological as the breast is not totally removed.

I am 33 year old and mother of 5 kids. I had slight differences between my breast before first delivery. Yhe problem is after delivery both the breast will be filled with milk. But after10 days or two weeks the small breast will start shrinking and it will have very small amount of milk. The difference in size affects my confidence level too. Can I get this treated feel there is difference in structure of this breast.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, lactation from both breast may be different, but you need to express milk from other breast to prevent from getting it collected and form abscess. If there is obvious difference of size is there then please get an ultrasound breast cancer to rule out local collection of milk or inflammation of breast and get it treated accordingly.

Good morning! If the patient is beyond treatment and the medical fraternity has given up, then the best treatment for him would be to remain as happy as he can and all you relatives can help him remain happy for the rest of his life. Just keep him happy. Emotionally, materially and physically. Don't put him on a diet or exercise regime at this stage. Let him do what he wants, keep him happy!

How can we find breast cancer in first stage? And how can we react to the sickness.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, regular self breast examination five days after the periods are over, is the key to diagnose in early stages. If over 40 years then she can get mammography done in addition to self and clinical breast examination. Most often it presents as painless lump, so do not ignore any lumps in breast.

How Ayurveda Helps Manage Thyroid Cancer?

BAMS, MD
Ayurveda, Gurgaon
How Ayurveda Helps Manage Thyroid Cancer?

Thyroid cancer affects the thyroid glands, which are located at the base of the throat. These glands produce thyroid hormones, which help in controlling the blood pressure, heart rate, weight and the body temperature.

Thyroid cancer is primarily of four types:

  1. Anaplastic carcinoma: This is the most severe type of thyroid cancer which is rare, but spreads extremely fast once the person is affected:
  2. Follicular carcinoma: This type of thyroid cancer can be cured, but it might relapse. Follicular cancer spreads quickly as well.
  3. Papillary carcinoma: This type of cancer is more common. It generally affects women who are still of reproductive age. The spread of papillary cancer is gradual and it is less dangerous than the types.
  4. Medullary carcinoma: This type occurs in the non thyroid cells in the thyroid gland. Medullary cancer is hereditary in nature.

Thyroid cancer has the following signs and symptoms:

  1. Lumps in the anterior neck, close to the Adam's apple.
  2. Hoarseness
  3. Enlarged glands in the neck
  4. Swallowing difficulties
  5. Complications in breathing
  6. Neck or throat pain
  7. Persistent cough without any signs of a cold.

In Ayurveda, cancer is seen as a hindrance to the life force. The cancer cells lack prana (oxygen) and produce a growth beyond the life force. It is the result of the dominance of any of the three: 'vata', 'kapha' or 'pitta' in the body. Ayurveda is all about balancing the energies in the body. Polluted environment, processed food loaded with preservatives and salts, and certain other factors can greatly affect the 'vata', 'kapha' and 'pitta'. Thyroid is the result of an aberration in the "kapha" dosha in the body.

The endocrine system produces hormones, which help in the overall functioning of the body. The 'kapha' dosha holds the endocrine system together. The thyroid glands are an important part of the body; they are a major endocrine system. Herbs that can help with thyroid cancer:

  1. Echinacea
  2. Cleavers
  3. Black pepper
  4. Ginger
  5. Trikatu
  6. Cayenne
  7. Cardamom

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Ayurveda.

7 Warning Signs of Cancer Every One Must be Alert About, Always!
7 warning signs of cancer

Cancer is one of the leading causes of premature death in the world. Cancer usually attacks the human body without any warning. However, most cancers start showing early signs. Keeping this in mind, one should learn how to recognize the early signs of cancer in order to get a timely treatment.

Here are 7 warning signs of cancer that one should be familiar with:

1. Unusual blood discharge from the body- unusual bleeding from any opening in the body is not a healthy sign. The presence of blood in the stool or blood in phlegm while coughing are some of the early signs of cancer. Bloody discharge from the vagina or from the nipples is also worrisome. Consult a doctor immediately if this happens.

2. Change in bowel and bladder movement - people experiencing a sudden change in bowel movement and bladder discharge are advised to visit a doctor immediately. Blood in stool, chronic diarrhea, and change in color of the stool can point to colon cancer. Blood in the urine can be an early warning sign of bladder cancer.
3. Sudden weight loss and onset of fever - experiencing a sudden weight loss, say of 5 kgs, in a matter of days is considered to be one of the earliest signs of cancer. A sudden onset of fever is also considered a sign.

4. Frequent indigestion and pain while swallowing - most indigestion is credited to an upset stomach while pain during swallowing is considered to be a sign of a sore throat. However, these warning signs could point to the onset of cancer as well.

5. Lump in breast or any other part of the body - forming of a lump in breasts or any other part of the body like the armpits, testicles or soft tissue can be a precursor to cancer. People are advised to visit a doctor if they discover any lumps on their body.

6. Persistent cough and sudden change in voice - a cough that is refusing to go away maybe a sign of lung cancer. A sudden change in voice maybe an early warning sign of cancer of the larynx (throat).

7. Sudden change in a wart or a mole - if you observe a sudden change in the size, color or texture of a mole or wart on your body, it is advisable that you get it checked as it could be a sign of cancer.

Tobacco is related To nearly 40 percent of cancer and is the most common avoidable cause of cancer. It's patient's resistance to carcinogens and fighting capacity that despite being exposed to tobacco he may not have cancer but in our clinics we see most patients having history of tobacco exposure.

Sir I have a half marble size lump near my neck which is not painful is it thyroid or any other disorder?

MBBS
General Physician, Ahmedabad
Hi, the location of lump is important for diagnosis. In the neck area except thyroid, lymphnodes are also important. For perfect diagnosis, sonography is useful and if possible biopsy is last one.

If you have missed period by 7 days then only pregnancy test to be done. Pregnancy is one of the reason apart from hormonal changes, that you did not had same symptoms of breast pain this time.
