My voice is rough and unpleasant and too slow. Even I feel so bad when I try to speak something what can I do for a sweet voice.

MD - Psychiatry

the pitch of voice is determined by lots of things like genetics, hormones, etc. Males are usually appreciated for thick husky voice, and females for sweet voice. I am surprised u want a sweet voice, like female. U can t do anything about nature, so enjoy what u have and live happily

Except for being unable to take sedatives, you have tried everything almost. I am sure that you may be one of those who has done counseling for a brief and stuck to the medication. Now, that won't do: you must combine the two therapies simultaneously and in fact, continue with counseling more consistently to get good and productive results. Even so, kindly resort to the following recommendations and see what happens: Please visit these professionals along with your parents. In the meantime please do the following sincerely because you could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Usually when I prepare for exam, Sometimes I get irritated, I feel like I don't want to study at all. Need a psychiatrist advise on How to prepare for exam and stay away from irritation? So that I could score well in exam.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
If you want better results while studying, revision is the key. Repeated revision consolidates the information in the brain and helps to retain the information. Other than that, try a daily exercise of recalling your entire day in as much detail as possible before you sleep. Initially only important or superficial details are recalled, but with practice minor details can also be recalled. Be more organized; make lists. Use acronyms and mnemonic devices to help you remember. Take 45 minute slots followed by a 5-15 minute break. Eat and at proper times. Drink plenty of water. Find time for exercise or meditation. Keep time for proper revision at end of study session. Revise before you sleep.

It is absolutely wrong and not advisable to take any antidepressants without consulting a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist. This is just because it may do more harm than good. Certain antidepressants may precipitate bipolar mania, psychosis, electrolyte disturbances, or even epileptic fits if taken in conditions which are contraindicated. So it would be a humble suggestion to avoid any such feats.

How to Deal with Stress of Raising a Child with Special Needs?

MBBS
General Physician, Jammu
How to Deal with Stress of Raising a Child with Special Needs?

Parenting in the recent past has become extremely stressful than what it used to be a couple of generations earlier. This stress has increased manifold if the child has special needs. Be it a physical or an emotional disability, the caretaker has a lot of additional responsibilities when raising a child with special needs. Also bringing up such a child is extremely rewarding in the long run, when you see them accomplish things in life, for which your contribution is far greater than in normal children.

Read on to for some guidance on how to manage a child with special need.

  1. Understand the problem your child is facing: The problem may become evident prenatally, at birth, or sometimes it will reveal itself as the child grows up. Whatever the case, once identified, understand the various issues it brings along. This is true especially in case of syndromes like Down's or learning disabilities, which have more implications. Review the medical history thoroughly with the doctor to understand the child better and play your role better.
  2. Supportive community: There are a lot of supportive communities, which will consist of similar people and so a lot of mutual support and help would be available. The emotional components of empathy and sympathy play an equally important role here.
  3. Let’s face it: Caring for such a child is an ongoing process. The sooner this fact is accepted, the easier the journey will be. The children need to be reassured that they are not alone, they are differently perfect, they need to forgive themselves, to not be hard on themselves, and not to lose heart. The parent and the caretakers also need to realize that it is like a never-ending marathon and bracing up for this long haul is very important. There might be times when mistakes happen, tough decisions are taken, and you have to be hard on the child and yourself. However, don’t lose heart and encourage both the child and yourself. It is okay for these slips to happen, just accept them.
  4. Live for today: On a daily basis, forgive small wrongs both for your child and yourself. Trust your instincts, celebrate the little wins, don’t compare your child to anybody else, and protect him from getting bullied. The child needs to be told that you are unique and special and to set your own pace and compete against yourself. Work on your sense of humor and get professional help for both the child’s needs and your additional responsibilities.

While the stress of caring for a child with special needs is quite high, these are very small and simple ways to deal with the stress of raising a child with special needs. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Why some children are fear to go school? Is it rue. How to prevent it. Is this serious.

Why some children are fear to go school? Is it rue. How to prevent it. Is this serious.
Children grow from dependence to independence pretty early in life nowadays. In the olden days children were not allowed into school before 5 years of age. Now it is not the case. After having a lovely dependent relationship with mom, children are somewhat prepared to go to school but it is not the case in every child's home life. If the child has not been prepared early to meet other people and feel comfortable about it, they will have a problem going to school. Also to meet so many other children and adults in a school atmosphere is quite intimidating, even if you are prepared for the same. Even if they are afraid, they must overcome that fear by making them attend school. It is not a serious flaw when a child feels fear about joining school unless it is a never ending problem. Then there is a social development problem and some measures may be used to gently wean the child away from that fear by allowing the mother to stay around in school for a few days to give the child the confidence. The best thing to do is to prepare the child when she is at home by socializing with other families, friends, relatives etc. both by inviting them over and visiting them often: the child will get exposure to other people and slowly get familiar with mixing with others. Also the school atmosphere can be made more conducive to be child-friendly and offer a lot of playthings around to distract the child and make them more comfortable: today's schools are focusing on this aspect a lot. Small classes are better than large ones. This is a very important growth for children in their attempt to become independent. There is also the great affect of the 'fear of change', which we as adults suffer from also. So you can imagine a child making its first steps in that direction, and how difficult it can be. Just be an enabler if your child is going through a phase like this and make it easier. In time it will sort itself out.
