Sleepwalking. Sleepwalking, formally known as somnambulism, is a behavior disorder that originates during deep sleep and results in walking or performing other complex behaviors while asleep. It is much more common in children than adults and is more likely to occur if a person is sleep deprived. Relaxation techniques, mental imagery, and anticipatory awakenings are the preferred treatment options for long-term treatment of people with a sleepwalking disorder. Anticipatory awakenings consist of waking the child or person approximately 15-20 minutes before the usual time of a sleepwalking episode, and then keeping him or her awake through the time during which the episodes usually occur. Relaxation and mental imagery techniques are most effective when done with the help of an experienced behavioral therapist or hypnotist.

How to Know If You're in LOVE?: V-Day Special

How to Know If You're in Love?

A Valentine’s Day brings with it basket full of love that lasts a week and it’s time to find and express love. Falling in love is one of the best, most rewarding feelings in the world! Some of us have had the opportunity of falling in love, while others have misunderstood infatuation for love. Everyone has their own definitions of what love is and what they want it to be. However, here are a few things that will make sure you know you’re in love with someone and you don’t just have a huge crush on him/her.

1. He/she is the best part of your day

If you look forward to seeing your special person because he/she is the best part of your day; it is probably love! He/she is the first person you want to share your news with whether it is good or bad.

2. You love their imperfections

You accept that person for who he/she truly is. The smallest of imperfections don’t upset you. In fact, these imperfections make you love them even more. You look at their imperfections as the tiny things that make them unique.

3. You become a better person

He/she truly brings out the best in you. They help you deal with your negative qualities and highlight your positives. They make you a better human being just by being there with you through it all.

4. He/she is your best friend

The bond you two share is not just a normal girlfriend-boyfriend bond. Over time you’ll become best friends, partners in crime. Parties seem boring without him/her by your side, coming home becomes a lot more fun because you get to come home to him/her. You can share anything, even your deepest, darkest, most embarrassing secrets with him/her.

5. You think long term

You find it hard to imagine your future without him/her in it and you’ll do anything to make sure things between the two of you work. You understand the importance of having him/her in your life and you’re completely willing to give up on temporary satisfactions that might ruin your future with your special person.

There are tons of other ways for you to know you’re really in love with someone. When people say, “it is the little things that count”, it is these little things that they mean.

Dear lybrate-user, Welcome to Lybrate. Bidi and thambacu addiction also comes under abuse and addiction. If you’re ready to stop the substance and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from addiction and —no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of addiction. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

How quit drinking alcohol periodically. I can't control the feeling to stop drinking. Any easy way to stop the habit.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol or may need professional help from a psychiatrist or de addiction centre. Try to do meditation and yoga. Read good books and listen to music and if you are believer attend Bhajans Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, cancer-causing chemicals are formed. Alcohol also affects hormone levels and makes cells even more likely to be damaged by smoking. The less alcohol you drink, the lower the risk of cancer. No type of alcohol is better or worse than another, it is the alcohol itself that leads to the damage, regardless of whether it is in wine, beer or spirits. And drinking and smoking together are even worse for you. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop cancer. But on the whole, scientists have found that some cancers are more common in people who drink more alcohol than others. Every year, alcohol causes 4% of cancers .Tips to cut down on alcohol. There are lots of simple ways to cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. It can help to work out if there are particular times or situations when you tend to have a drink, whether that’s a bad day at work or a weekly pub quiz tradition, and plan what you’ll say and do differently next time. Have more alcohol-free days a week. For liver health it’s best to have at least 2 days off alcohol in a row each week. Try agreeing on certain days with your partner or a friend and help each some wi other and stick to it. If you are planning to drink alcohol, decide on a limit in advance and make sure you don’t go over it. Swap every other alcoholic drink for a soft one – starting with your first drink. Try shandy instead of a pint of beer, or swap ne for soda and have a spritzer. Don’t stock up on beer, wine or spirits at home. Finish one drink before pouring another, because topping up drinks makes it harder to keep track of how much you’ve had and when you planned to stop. Avoid buying drinks in rounds, that way you don’t have to keep pace with anyone. Tell a friend or partner that you’re cutting down on alcohol, they can support you – or even join you.

I am 26 years old. I dont know why I cannot adjust properly at some places. Many times it has happened that people say that I need to consult a psychiatrist. They say that I am disturbed. But there are many who have never told me these things. Consulting a psychologist costs much and I don't want to take unnecessary medicines.

Sir/ madam my father is addicted with tabbaco and I wan to quite their this habbiy I am requesting you to help him so he can quit it easily.

Ideally you must spend a lot of time convincing him to stop the smoking. Of course he will agree sometimes and sometimes he will change his mind. Giving up is difficult but if you highlight the dangers of smoking regularly he may one day decide to quit. Never give up on him. Because of his age and quantity of cigarettes smoked and the length of abuse, he will find is even harder. When quitting, he must take one day at a time. If he looks too far ahead he will get discouraged and will give up. If he sits and counts the number of days he has given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. He must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if he fails one day, he must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. His persistence and yours will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But his desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms him about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and he must remind himself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So he must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for him. In fact it is highly toxic too. He will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. He should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time he feels like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. He may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. He may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep him occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i. E. At least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that he has quit smoking. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if he accidentally/willfully takes a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – he can start the cessation all over again. He must persevere with the best support until he defeats this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. Everyone who can help him should be involved until he succeeds. If all this does not work, you can admit him into a rehabilitation center and let him stay there until he has completely quit the habit.

The best way is the accept the facts and move on in a very dignified manner with no sense of bitterness in your mind as you cannot change the past. Your parents were simply over-protective and did the best according to their understanding. So nothing is lost. You don't have to feel guilty. Also do not rush to mingle with people. (Do not force yourself to change your nature overnight. Its always better to have a few good friends than to be famous and have lots of useless friends who will simply drain your time and energy in useless things. Focus on your goals and take time to study the people before becoming friends. Character of a person is more important than the status. You will definitely make very good friends and have good relations with every including your parents when your understanding and vision is clear.

You are a suicide attempter and luckily you have not succeeded. The fact, that this guy loves you, albeit not enough to marry you against the wishes of his parents is an indication that you are lovable. You are probably into an anger related depression for all of the reasons you mention but do not turn that anger towards yourself. If this guy is not willing to marry you, just move on and find another guy who will be stronger in his resolve. This is a set up for failure as it stands, and you will get more disturbed and depressed when it really happens. Right now there seems to be no hope of any reconciliation between the two families, and therefore between you two too. If you love yourself you will not tolerate any of this nonsense with this boy and wait unnecessarily for some kind of unforeseeable outcome. Your life is very precious to you at least, and unless you show that to others (including this boy) he will not have that regard for you. Work on your depression with a counselor and sort out your personal issues and work towards building yourself up and making a fabulous personality with what you already have. Suitable boys will come flocking after you!

Hi, Losing a loved one can leave anyone like an emotional wreck. For some intensity of emotions fades with times while memories remain on our mind forever. There is a tranformation in life that we confront unwillingly on loss of a loved one but loss does not necessarily need to be for the worse in the long term. I understand you will never be able to forget but we shall be concerned if the grief continues for amvery long time. To help you I need to know some more information about you. What is your age? Are there any others difficulties you have been facing apart from loss of interest? How is your sleep & appetite? Some people feel its worthless to live? They get ideas of hopelessness. Is it the case with you. Plz come back with answers. ALL THE BEST!

Hello lybrate-user. I must appreciate your concern about smoking and willingness to quit it. Regarding your throat and chest pain, you must get it checked by going to a local doctor, as it may be an infection or any other problem. Smoking certainly is very harmful in both short and long term and can lead to these type of symptoms. You must take professional help in order to quit it as you will have difficulty in initial few days which can be overcome with some medicines. Counseling also improves chances to quit smoking. Above all, you need to be very determined to quit it totally, otherwise you will keep relapsing back to smoking. Yes certainly, you can kick the butt for good! take care!
