Rheumatoid arthritis can be reversed by following Strict Plant based diet. Avoid Gluten based food. Avoid foods belonging to the Nightshade category: Potatoes, pepper, cayanne pepper, okra etc. Take lots of Antioxidants and Green fresh vegetables. Take Omega-3 fatty acids. Take enough Vitamin D3 regularly. Vitamin C 2g daily on divided doses. Curcumin daily. Sweet potato helps. Probiotics helps alot. Proteolytic enzymes and systemic enzymes like Betaine HCL with Pepsin, bromelain, trypsin, papain etc helps to heal the gut. Inflammatory conditions like RA gets flared up due to Leaky Gut, so healing the gut is very essential. Avoid Dairy products. Sweets and sugar is a strict NO. Contact me for further details. Hope it helps. Thanks.

My wife, 62 years old, is suffering from severe pain just below both knees. Her x rays are suggestive of osteoarthritis and the doctors have recommended TKR. She is a dialysis patient but is not diabetic. Is there any treatment which can relieve her pains so that she can walk well and perform her other activities. Thanks Anand.

Dear lybrate-user. Thanks for bringing to our notice the history of your wife. The knee pains are very painful and could be relived by Physiotherapy and supportive othotics and walking aids. Still it is not clear about the weight of your wife. But along with pain management, there should be specific strategies dveloped relating to the diet. She should slowly decrease the oily foods, fat consumption and low salt intake should be done. You may also start with natural calcium supplements like milk and panner.

Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Start strech your calf muscles of both knees and also strech your quads muscles also, then followed by strengthening. Also go in for hot water and cold water fermentation for your knee alternatively each for about 3 min and totally for about 10 min do this as frequently as possible as you can.
