I have a negative thinking problem during exams which affects my results very badly, what should I do?
Hello its natural to feel anxious during your exams. But everything should be in balance. Too much of negative thoughts will lead to feeling anxious and will affect your performance. Try some visualization exercises or meditation. You can follow deep breathing exercises followed by few visualizations. You can make use of positive self affirmative thoughts. Take a card and write positive self affirmations like" I have prepared well for the exams. I am a hardworking person. I know the subject well. I will do my best and will get good marks. Read these statements early in the morning and before going to the bed and try to motivate yourself. You can also include any recreational activity to distract yourself from those thoughts and it will also elevate your mood. All the best. Thanks.

Dear, tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like nicotine replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you? re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse? no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn? t easy. But it? s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Take care.

I am 22 years and have been using weed since 2 years. As I saw in google that weed does not effect our body and I myself could not feel any side effect. So can you tell me if I continue smoking weed will it harm me?

There is a lot of hype by those who want to legitimize it and those who love it: there is a bias because of their selfish motives. The antagonists on the other hand willfully propagate the dangers, sometimes without substantiated reasons to dissuade its use. If you know it is harmful why would you want to play with it? The obsession and compulsive use is when you become addicted to the substance. Just for your information here’s what WebMD has to say: ‘No matter how it gets into your system, it affects almost every organ in your body, and your nervous system and immune system, too. When you smoke pot, your body absorbs THC right away. (If you eat baked goods or another item, it may take much longer for your body to absorb THC, because it has to break down in your stomach before it enters your bloodstream). You may notice changes in your body right after you smoke. The effects usually stop after 3 or 4 hours. Smoking pot can increase your heart rate by as much as two times for up to 3 hours. That’s why some people have a heart attack right after they use marijuana. It can increase bleeding, lower blood pressure, and affect your blood sugar, too. We don’t yet know if marijuana is linked to higher odds of getting lung cancer. But the process does irritate your lungs -- which is why regular pot smokers are more likely to have an ongoing cough and to have lung-related health problems like chest colds and lung infections. Other physical effects of marijuana include: • Dizziness • Shallow breathing • Red eyes and dilated pupils • Dry mouth • Increased appetite • Slowed reaction time (If you drive after using marijuana, your risk of being in a car accident more than doubles.) If you’re a long-time user, you can have physical withdrawal symptoms -- like cravings, irritability, sleeplessness, and less appetite -- when you stop.’ It being a hallucinogen, it can lead to hallucinations and even a phenomenon called ‘cross hallucinations’ i.e. for example, you can see sounds and hear colors!!! If you are finding it very difficult to give it up on your own then admit yourself in a rehabilitation center and go through the 12 steps to recovery. After that attend NA meetings and keep yourself clean forever. You will need to alter your lifestyle, change your friends, your haunts, your habits, etc. You must learn to have fun in clean ways. You must exercise regularly, eat well and sleep well. Emotionally you must be able to handle your feelings by expressing them appropriately. A counselor will teach you about emotions and how to handle them.

He is not alone to have had these problems of attraction to mother or sister and ending up in some activities which are opposite to soceital morals. There are girls who feel attracted towards fathers and brothers. When you are aware of some morals and act against to it you feel sad, angry, depressed which is natural. Holding these feelings makes you more sad. Try to forgive yourself so that you can move on. If he feels that he want to say sorry to his mother he can do that. Practice meditation, yoga, I am not so in favour of zapatra unless he is very very depressed. Hope this helps.

Student, 24. Was a past smoker for 4 years with 5-6 cigarettes avg. Per day. Also was a drinker, twice or thrice a week. Left smoking since Feb 2016 and reduced my drinking to once a month since then. My weight is 83 (height 6 ft), reduced it greatly from 97 since my doc advised me to do so because of a slight high total cholesterol of 212 and a little high TSH, which are both now normal to 177 total chol. And TSH normal. But I feel that it has made me a lot anxious. Before exams I feel a lot anxious with palpitation, heart thumping, cold sweat etc. Also normally if I drink a beer or two, the next morning I wake up with a great anxiety and a feeling of heartattack. I am always scared of having a heart attack. Had an ECG recently, it ws totally normal, although my BP becomes high at 130/90 when I am anxious, comes to normal 112/70. Also sometimes it pains near my armpits when I am anxious. I am too scared, always have a feeling that I am gonna have a heart attack or so. Help me, it is hell.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. I assume your problem is health anxiety. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

Dear sir/ madam I am 46 years old guy not established both personally and professionally. I have ocd and I get feelings of irritation, anger, some sort of disturbance in my head (heaviness I would say ), depression. After I put on my shoe lace I avoid touching my face body. It bothers me. I feel dirtied. Even when dust flies all over my body on moving out it makes me feel dirty, angry, depressed. I avoid touching door handles, door locks as I feel I will dirty my hands. I don't like to touch my books after I touch my shoes. I feel I will dirty the books. I wash hand after every activity with soap. I apply soap on taps and my hand after brushing, after making tea I wash hands with soap. I cannot stand the stickiness of my hands nor dirtying my hands. I want to overcome all that is wrong with me. I am giving more importance to cleanliness than my life, my career, I am not sound financially. I request someone to offer me free psychotherapy as my situation is bad. Thanks

For practical purposes you can try to gt married to someone who is understanding and helpful. But right now I can give you study tips to do well in your exams. If you feel excessive sleep or tiredness/ head spinning or vertigo like feeling you have to make sure you have no anaemia or hypothyroidism by doing a blood CBC & TSH and inform me directly 10 Study Tips to Improve Your Learning Study Tip 1: Underlining Underlining is one of the simplest and best known study tips. It’s easy to highlight the most significant parts of what you’re reading. One key sentence per paragraph and a few important phrases here and there. You can only retain a certain amount so it’s best to retain the most important information. Study Tip 2: Make your own note and taking notes is one of the most widespread study skills out there. Essentially the aim of note-taking is to summarise lectures or articles in your own words so you can easily remember the ideas. Study Tip 3: Mind mapping A good Mind map can save you many hours of study and further consolidate your knowledge for your exams. Mind Maps are an extremely versatile tools. They can be used for brainstorming, outlining essays or study topics and for general exam preparation, ExamTime offers the ability to create Mind Maps quickly and easily which makes them the ideal tool when it comes to exams. Study Tip 4: Flash cards:- Using these are a particularly effective method of learning when trying to assimilate different facts, dates, formulas or vocabulary. Subjects such as History, Physics, Maths, Chemistry, Geography or any language are made much easier if you incorporate Flashcards in to your study. Study Tip 5: Case Studies Sometimes it can be difficult to grasp the implications of some theories. This is where studying case studies can be a big help. Case studies can help you visualise a theory and place it in a more familiar and realistic context. This is especially useful in business or law subjects. Study Tip 6: Quizzes are an excellent way to review study notes in the weeks and days before an exam. Quizzes can show where your strengths and weaknesses are, so it allows you to focus your efforts more precisely. Moreover, if you share your Study Quiz with your classmates and test each other as much as possible you can discover even more details and areas you may have overlooked. So before any exam, make sure you create and share a bunch of different Quizzes with your Friends. Study Tip 7: Brainstorming This is another study technique that is ideal for studying with friends and/or classmates. Brainstorming is a great way to expand every possible idea out of any topic. Just get a bunch of friends together and shoot the breeze, there are no wrong answers when brainstorming – just talk and capture the ideas, you can review afterward. Study Tip 8: Mnemonic Rules Mnemonics are especially useful when memorising lists and sets. Mnemonics rules basically work by associating certain concepts with other concepts that are more familiar to us. There are many different ways to make mnemonics and these can be individual to the person. Study Tip 9: ORGANISE your study One of the most effective study skills is also one of the most often overlooked; this is organising your study. Creating a TIME TABLE gives you goals and a time in which to achieve them. Having a study timetable as you study is greatly motivational Study Tip 10: Drawing Many people find it easier to recall images rather than text that is why they are better able to memorise concepts if they associate them with pictures or drawings. If you find answer helpful please click on “helpful” tab for knowing my efforts are useful CONCENTRATION TIPS Here’s some tips to get into a state of deep concentration where work / or studies flow easily so that you can do well in examinations/ and or do your work well. 1) Cut Off the Noise Getting into a state of concentration can take at least fifteen minutes. If you are getting distracted every five, you can’t possibly focus entirely on your work. Request that people don’t interrupt you when working on a big project. If you are required to answer phones and drop-in’s immediately, schedule work when the office is less busy. 2) Structure Your Environment The place you work can have an impact on your ability to focus. Try to locate yourself so you are facing potential distractions such as doors, phones or windows. This way you can take a glance to assess sounds that would otherwise break your focus. 3) Clarify Objectives Know what your goal is clearly before you start. If you aren’t sure what the end result is, the confusion will make it impossible to focus. 4) Divide Blobs. If you have a large project that needs work, clearly identify a path that you will use to get started working on it. If the sequence of actions isn’t obvious, it will be difficult to concentrate. Taking a few minutes to plan not only your end result, but the order you will complete any steps, can save hours in wasted thinking. 5) Know the Rules Get clear on what the guidelines are for the task ahead. What level of quality do you need? What standards do you need to follow? What constraints are there? If the rules aren’t clear from the outset, you will slip out of concentration as you ponder them later. 6) Set a Deadline Deadlines have both advantages and disadvantages when trying to force concentration. A deadline can make it easier to forget the non-essential and speed up your working time. If you give yourself only an hour to design a logo, you will keep it simple and avoid fiddling with extravagant designs. Time limits have disadvantages when they cause you to worry about the time you have left instead of the task itself. 7) Break down Roadblocks Roadblocks occur whenever you hit a tricky problem in your work. This can happen when you run out of ideas or your focus wavers. Break down roadblocks by brainstorming or planning on a piece of paper. Writing out your thought processes can keep you focused even if you might become frustrated. 8) Isolate Yourself Become a hermit and stay away from other people if you want to get work done. Unless your work is based on other people they will only break your focus. Create a private space and refuse to talk to anyone until your work is finished. Put a sign on your door to steer away drop-ins and don’t answer your phone. 9) Healthy Body, Sharper Mind What you put into your body affects the way you concentrate. Nobody would expect peak performance if they showed up drunk to work. But if you allow yourself to get chronic sleep deprivation, overuse stimulants like caffeine or eat dense, fatty foods your concentration will suffer. Try to cut out one of your unhealthy habits for just thirty days to see if there is a difference in your energy levels. I’ve found even small steps can create dramatic changes in my ability to focus. 10) Be Patient Before I write an article, I often sit at my desk for a fifteen or twenty minutes before I put finger on the keyboard. During this time I feel a strong urge to leave or do something else. But I know that if I am patient, I’ll stumble upon an idea to write about and enter a state of flow. Without a little patience, you can’t take advantage of flow when it rushed through you. If you need strong concentration I recommend periods of 90-120 minutes. Any less than that and you will waste too much time getting started before the flow can continue. More than this is possible to sustain focus, but you will probably benefit from a quick break. These are the general guidelines for concentration, studying well or doing your job. Regards.

You brother is going through grief reaction, which is normal after loss of a loved one. Time is the healer for the emotional and behavioral changes, however if your depression is severe enough to affect you in a significant manner, kindly consult a psychiatrist for short term antidepressant medication, depending on the complaints.
