Cholesterol is borderline high. Otherwise his BP appears to be on upper limit and anxious. Cut down cholesterol and Saturated fat. Let him try meditation and relaxation and investigate thoroughlly if he has essential Hypertension and hen need to control diet and exercise and organize a stress managed lifestyle. Hi, My son is 4 years old. He is in KG but still reluctant going to school. He has separation anxiety. He still cries in class. He doesn't like to mingle too much with kids and feels nervous in gatherings. He always wants me by his side. Is there something to worry about. Please suggest?

DNB (Psychiatry), DPM, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Mumbai
Separation anxiety is a developmental disorder of childhood where the child usually has anxiety to new places like school, creche where he needs to be away from people whom he has attachment with eg: parents. Please don't panic as this is a normal phenomenon with most kids initially attending school. Children gradually get adjusted with new environment and these anxiety spells reduce, if the behaviour is persistent then you may need to seek a counselors help for behaviour therapy or a psychiatrist consultation if symptoms are overwhelming. It can be recommended for the parent to sit in the class for few days until the child is able to develop rapport with the teacher and other students in the school.

It's too bad live with depression. Life is a gift. A beautiful phrase: life has either problem or not. If no problem, then why worry? if you have problem, two possibility. Either you can handle or not. If you can handle, why worry? if you can not do anything for problem, then again why worry?) at we the end we will always alone:) what is the concept of life? focus on your life, carrier. Be the best buddy, make other happy my advises to you are * take life lightly * main problem is how you are reacting matters & incidence of your life & day to day * you can see half filled glass of water by two way: half is still empty (nagative attitude) or half full (positive) * take balance diet * give time for yoga * you can take brahmi sankhpuspi etc ayurveda medicine * I recommended strongly, go near by ayurveda centre & take shirodhara & nashya treatment

I am 22 years old and I'm a very heavy smoker I was try all things but don't work it help me what can I do to quit smoking.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

Just the fact that you want to give up smoking is a good starting point. The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage you incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

Hello, good to know that you want to quit smoking & congratulations for your resolve! Now as you said smoking calms your stress & nerves, real problem is your anxiety or possibly depression & hence even if you manage to quit smoking on your own; you will hook up to some other addiction.Hence,Please answer these questions before I can help 1. Do you tend to worry about smallest of matters, issues all the time? 2. Do you always feel keyed up/tensed? 3. how is your sleep? do you get bad dreams? 4. Do you feel uneasy at public place, crowded place, closed space like lift? Do you feel uneasy/shy talking with girls, teachers etc.? Good luck

The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food. You may also include these noted foods that are good for your brain health: Brain-Friendly Foods MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. But the MIND approach “specifically includes foods and nutrients that medical literature and data show to be good for the brain, such as berries,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, director of nutrition and nutritional epidemiology at Rush University Medical Center. You eat things from these 10 food groups: •Green leafy vegetables (like spinach and salad greens): At least six servings a week •Other vegetables: At least one a day •Nuts: Five servings a week •Berries: Two or more servings a week •Beans: At least three servings a week •Whole grains: Three or more servings a day •Fish: Once a week •Poultry (like chicken or turkey): Two times a week •Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil. •Wine: One glass a day You avoid: •Red meat: Less than four servings a week •Butter and margarine: Less than a tablespoon daily •Cheese: Less than one serving a week •Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings a week •Fried or fast food: Less than one serving a week.

I am going to depressed. There have no reason for it .I don't know how to recover it.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
10 Natural Depression Treatments Being depressed can make you feel helpless. But Along with therapy and sometimes medication, there's a lot you can do on your own to fight back. Changing your behaviour – your physical work, lifestyle, and even your way of thinking -- are all natural depression treatments .these tips can help you feel better -- starting right now. 1. Get in a routine. If you’re depressed, you need a routine depression can strip away the structure from your life. One day melts into the next. Setting a gentle daily schedule can help you get back on track. 2. When you're depressed, you may feel like you can't accomplish anything. That makes you feel worse about yourself. To push back, set daily goals for yourself. "Start very small,” "Make your goal something that you can succeed at, like doing the dishes every other day. As you start to feel better, you can add more challenging daily goals. 3. Exercise- It temporarily boosts feel-good chemicals called endorphins. It may also have long-term benefits for people. Regular exercise seems to encourage the brain to rewire itself in positive ways. How much exercise do you need? You don’t need to run marathons to get a benefit. Just walking a few times a week can help. 4. Eat healthy. There is no magic / special; diet that corrects depression. It's a good idea to watch what you eat, though. If depression tends to make you overeat, getting in control of your eating will help you feel better. Although nothing is definitive, there’s evidence that foods with omega-3 fatty acids (such as fish) and folic acid (such as spinach) could help ease depression. 5. Get enough sleep. Depression can make it hard to get enough sleep and can make depression worse. What can you do? Start by making some changes to your lifestyle. Go to bed and get up at the same time every day. Try not to nap. Take all the distractions out of your bedroom -- no computer and no TV. In time, you may find your sleep improves. 6. Take on responsibilities. When you’re depressed, you may want to pull back from life and give up your responsibilities at home and at work. Staying involved and having daily responsibilities can work as a natural depression treatment. They ground you and give you a sense of accomplishment. If you're not up to full-time school or work, that’s fine. Think about part-time. If that seems like too much, consider volunteer work. 7. Challenge negative thoughts. In your fight against depression, a lot of the work is mental -- changing how you think. When you're depressed, you leap to the worst possible conclusions. You might feel like no one likes you, but is there real evidence for that? You might feel like the most worthless person on the planet, but is that really likely? It takes practice, but in time you can beat back those negative thoughts before they get out of control. 8. Check with your doctor before using supplements. "There's promising evidence for certain supplements for depression, Those include fish oil, folic acid. Always check with your doctor before starting any supplement, especially if you’re already taking medications 9. Do something new. When you’re depressed, you’re in a rut. Push yourself to do something different. Go to a museum. Pick up a used book and read it on a park bench. Volunteer at a soup kitchen. Take a language class. "When we challenge ourselves to do something different, there are chemical changes in the brain, "Trying something new alters the levels of [the brain chemical] dopamine, which is associated with pleasure, enjoyment, and learning. 10. Try to have fun. If you’re depressed, make time for things you enjoy. What if nothing seems fun anymore? "That's just a symptom of depression, You have to keep trying anyway. As strange as it might sound, you have to work at having fun. Plan things you used to enjoy, even if they feel like a chore. Keep going to the movies. Keep going out with friends for dinner. When you're depressed, you can lose the knack for enjoying life, you have to relearn how to do it. In time, fun things really will feel fun again.

I want you to help me out with a problem that I am enduring right now. I have been married for 10+ years with two kids. My husband has been suffering from erectile dysfunction for quite sometime and we had gone to a sexologist who suggested some routine tests and a penile doppler but the doctor had said that everything was normal with him but gave him Sifasi 5000 IU and asked him to inject it once in three days and also gave Arginitric to consume daily. This happened two months ago and he has been taking the meds off and on. The problem is that he still has the same problem and is anxious most of the time. He has lost interest in everything and he does not like to spend time with either me, the kids or his dog though he claims most of the time that I do not spend time with him. Last week he lied to me and spent time from morning till night with a colleague of his with whom he worked five years back (unmarried girl) and had gone to a film, restaurant and ECR and when he returned home at 10 p.m. I questioned him to which he said I did not have any right to question him. We had a fight and from then he is not talking to me. I want to know what his problem is and why he did such a thing all of a sudden. My kids and I are very upset because of his weird behaviour. Please help.

I guess, you are not getting along well with your husband and/or in-laws. In a marital relationship, two different individuals from completely different backgrounds come together and try to create a new bond together. It takes time to understand each other. Try to understand your husband's needs and his view points (his perspective). Also be aware, what will make you happy and try to pin point exactly what is bothering you. Once you do this, then try to communicate this with your husband when you both are not agitated. Give each other enough space. Remember, that marriage is neither" total dependence" nor" total independence" it is" interdependence" if you both are working or staying with your in-laws then this can put additional stress on your relationship" effective communication is lifeblood of any relationship" - try to communicate with all your important relations. Assertively. Talking to a marriage counsellor will also help you. Take care.

How far the drug ;"Five Phos", can be useful for a patient undergoing treatment of Schizophrenia with allopathic medicine" Oleanz RT 20? And can it be combined together with Oleanz & its usage shall not add any side effects? Our family is a staunch believers of Homeopathy & from our very childhoods we took only Homeopathic drugs & are happy even today. Kindly revert with your valuable advice.

MPhil (Clinical Psychology), MSc (Psychology)

Follow either one stream of medicine, if you and your family believe homeopathy so much, why take oleanz, take either only homeopathy or allopathy, sometimes drug interaction can lead to total kidney shutdown.

Dear imtiyaz, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. Take care.

I am 28, divorced, college dropout, unhappy person with a night job in a IT company, which I don't like very much. I'd even met with an accident few years ago, survived with fractured knee, it is well set now but got bow legs. I almost am bald now, have deep holes on face due to pimples. I had so high aspirations in my life some 5-10 years back and I was a very happy person back then. And I feel that my life has completely ruined with all these troubles and loosing hope on my life. I don't have any suicidal tendencies but not liking my life at all. Started smoking and drinking after all these with 10 cigs a day and drinking once a week. I am even worried to remarry now fearing that she might not be happy with me. I don't see any other person with so many troubles like mine .

Yes, the situation may appear bad and depressing but life is full of such problems even if all looks hunky dory for others. Instead of making matters worse, you should put your life back together with all the positives that are there: you are alive, have a job, in fairly good health, and still very young. Leave the past behind and take charge of your life and what happens in it. You are in charge and make it go this way or that! You can get married but before you do that get your act together. Do not expect marriage to be a solution by some magical means. Quit your smoking and go to a gym regularly and get fit again. Your attitude is what matters. Do a personality development course, personal grooming course, and improve your academics by doing some relevant course and enhance your career prospects. Because you are young these can be done with a couple of years!
