Smokers are everyone not effected to cancer. It depends person to person. Because of smoking cancer comes that is healthy advice. It not means everyone affected. So do not worry about this. Better to quit smoking. You have pathophobia means fear of diseases. When you need smoking at that time take chicklets or any other chocolates or eat anything. Refresh your mind with tea, coffee or juice or any other small item of foods. Be sociable and be friendly with others. Do not think about cancer. If you think you are in very trouble. Quit smoking. Feel always I have no bad habits. I am very healthy person. Feel and think in a positive manner. It will be always best for your health. Ok best of luck.

What are risk factors for cancer? How is cancer treated? What are the side effects of cancer treatment.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Tobacco chewing or smoking, pollution pesticides radiation exposure, alcohol for some, hormonal disbslance, some viruses like hiv, hpv ebv etc. And some times genetic predisposition. Cancer is treated by mainly three methods surgery, radiotherapy chemotherapy. Treatment is usually targeted to kill cancer cells, but cancer arises from our body cells which become uncontrolled and hence wider area of treatment is covered. It may lead to nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, hair loss, skin changes and sometimes organ dysfunction and disfigurement. Nowadays we practice targeted treatment but only when disease is focused and early then we try to treat only affected area.

I want to know about mouth cancer. And its diet after surgery. What should eat or not. And what kind of precautions should be taken after surgery, Radiation and chemo. Is it curable? Actually surgery done on Dec 2016 ,now radiation is going to complete. But still now he is unable to take food.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Whether or not you can eat or drink after your operation depends on your type of surgery. Any surgery to your mouth usually means you can't eat or drink for a few days. You have fluid through a drip and you can wet your mouth with ice or sips of water. If you have a feeding tube, a dietitian will see you to decide how much liquid feed you need, until you are eating and drinking normally. Once your wound has healed you can gradually increase the amount you drink. Soon you can start to eat a soft diet, such as soup or jelly. Your dietitian will monitor this, and gradually cut down your liquid feeds.

Why we ard using chemical in medicine? Why we don't use ayurveda medicine for cancer?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Cytotoxic agents used in chemotherapy, many of them are derived from plants and in ayuvedic medicines also sometimes heavy metals are used. Because cancer cells arise from normal body cells and killing them by any means may be toxic to the whole body, but unfortunately that is what has to be done.

Colposcopy and Cervical Biopsy - Procedure that is Followed

DGO , MBBS
Gynaecologist, Pune
Colposcopy and Cervical Biopsy - Procedure that is Followed

Colposcopy is a procedure that is used to get a closer view of a women’s cervix, vagina and vulva. It is a procedure carried on to detect the presence of any abnormal cells on the cervix and nearby areas.

Why is Colposcopy done?
This procedure is carried out to see the problems in the vagina and cervix which may otherwise be not visible with a naked eye. A colposcopy is done when the Pap test results are abnormal. These abnormalities could be due to several reasons like viral infections namely human papillomavirus (HPV) infection or any other fungal (yeast), bacterial or protozoan (Trichomonas) infection. Atrophic vaginitis or natural cervical changes due to menopause can also lead to abnormal Pap test results. However one needs to be careful because these untreated cervical cell changes that lead to abnormal Pap tests can at times develop into precancerous or cancerous changes.

Cervical Biopsy
In case during colposcopy, an abnormal tissue is found in the problem areas, the doctor will remove a tiny sample of it and send it to the lab. This is normally known as a biopsy or cervical biopsy which is done from inside the opening of the cervix or endocervical canal.

Procedure for a colposcopy and biopsy
A colposcopy is normally a pain free procedure where at times some women might feel a slight tingling or burning sensation when the solution is applied. Biopsy might lead to a little discomfort like that of a sharp pinch or a menstrual cramp. During colposcopy a speculum or a small instrument is inserted into the vagina to spread apart the vaginal walls. In order to see the area more clearly the doctor dabs the cervix or vagina with a cotton swab dipped in vinegar (acetic acid) or Iodine (Lugol's solution). The solution is used to remove any kind of mucus and also makes the abnormal cells turn white in order to be clearly visible.

The doctor then uses a colposcope, a light magnifying device that looks like binoculars and has a bright light mounted to it. It also has a camera attached to it to take the videos or pictures of the cervix and vagina.
Biopsies are normally done by scraping away abnormal cells with a small brush or a small curette.

Results of colposcopy or cervical Biopsy
In case of Normal results the vinegar or iodine will not show the presence of any abnormal cells and the vagina and cervix look normal. But in case of abnormal results, there are abnormal tissues seen in the problem areas. It could also be a sore or a genital wart or infection in and around the vagina. The biopsy report would clarify whether it is cervical cancer or is likely to develop. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist and ask a free question.

Hello doctor, I am experiencing acute pain in my anal part during having latrine. Sometimes it's happening anytime a day. I am very afraid about this. Please tell me doctor why is it happening? Is it any sign of cancer? Please tell me what to do? Please.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, not every acute pain, in and around anus, is due to cancer. I would advise that you consult a gastro-intestinal (GI) specialist or any general surgeon to clinically examine your condition and recommend treatment apropos. For the time being, ensure to have a healthy & balanced diet (preferably Mediterranean) including fresh leafy greens and fruits. Especially, fibrous foods help avoid constipation issues, if any. Also, stay well hydrated, exercise daily and relax. Take care to not strain while passing stool. Post going to toilet, you may sit for a few minutes in a bowl of clean and luke warm water to which a few drops of 'dettol' solution is added. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely,

8 Reasons Why You Should Eat Tomatoes

M.Sc. in Dietetics and Food Service Management , Post Graduate Diploma In Computer Application, P.G.Diploma in Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics , B.Sc.Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
8 Reasons Why You Should Eat Tomatoes

1. Prevents cancer: as a magnificent source of vitamin c and different cell reinforcements, tomatoes can battle the development of abnormal cells that causes cancer. Lycopene has been connected with prostate tumour prevention. Epidemiologists recommend the consumption of tomato as it helps lower the possibility of prostate cancer. High fibre content of beta-carotene in fruits and vegetables has been proven to bring down the risk of colorectal cancer to a great extent.

2. Blood pressure: low sodium consumption keeps circulatory strain solid. Tomatoes are rich in potassium that helps in the same.

3. Heart's well-being: the fibre, potassium, vitamin c and choline content in tomatoes all bolster the heart's well-being. An expansion in potassium as well as a reduction in sodium is the most essential dietary change that an individual can make to lessen their danger of cardiovascular diseases. Tomatoes additionally contain folic corrosive, which keeps the homocysteine levels under control. It reduces the risk of heart diseases.

4. Diabetes: tomatoes help bring down the blood sugar level in people with type1 diabetes. Whereas, people with type 2 diabetes may have enhanced glucose, lipids and insulin levels. One measure of cherry tomatoes gives around 2 grams of fibre and helps them keep their levels neutralized.

5. Constipation: eating foods that are high in water substance and fibre like tomatoes can help with hydration and advance normal solid discharges. Fibre adds mass to stool and is important for bowel movement.

6. Eye health: tomatoes are a rich sources of lycopene, lutein and beta-carotene, which are intense cancer prevention agents. They have been helpful in protecting the eyes against harm related to the advancement of age-related macular degeneration.

7. Skin: collagen, a fundamental part of the skin, hair, nails and connective tissue, is dependent on vitamin c. An inadequacy of vitamin c leads to certain skin problems. As vitamin c is a capable cancer prevention agent, a low intake can affect the skin and cause harm from uv rays, infections and smoke. This usually results in wrinkles, hanging skin, blemishes and other antagonistic skin diseases.

8. Pregnancy: a good amount of folic acid needs to be present before and during pregnancy to ensure the infants good health inside the mother's womb. This can be found in tomatoes.

4 Prevention Tips For Cervical Cancer

MBBS, MS - Obstetrics and Gynaecology

4 Prevention Tips For Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer is a kind of cancer that develops in the cervix of a woman. Cervix an an area between the uterus and vagina. It is preventable if diagnosed in early stages. Going for regular pap tests and taking a HPV vaccine can significantly lower the risk of cervical cancer. These symptoms include abnormal bleeding between menstrual periods, low back and lower abdominal pain, postcoital bleeding and strange smelling discharge. If not diagnosed in time, it can be life-threatening and requires intense treatment.

  • Prevention of cervical cancer: There is usually no certain way of preventing cervical cancer, but by following a number of practices there is a possibility that you can prevent it. There are 3 major ways of prevention of cervical cancer, which include the following:
  • Safe sex: Major cases of cervical cancer are caused due to an infection by a virus known as human papillomavirus or HPV. This virus is usually transmitted by sexual means and having unprotected sex might leave you at the risk of getting infected by this virus during the sexual intercourse.  You should practice safe sex using protection such as condoms. This reduces your chances of being infected by the virus. This virus is transmitted via all types of sexual contact, which includes skin contact between the genitals. People who have unprotected sex with multiple sexual partners are at an increased risk of getting cervical cancer due to the HPV virus.
  • Cervical screening and vaccination: Having a cervical screening or pap smear test on a regular basis is an efficient way to detect abnormal changes in the cervix cells, at a very early stage. Even if you are being vaccinated for the HPV virus, cervical screening is essential as the vaccines against HPV virus are not always successful in providing protection from cervical cancer. If you had been previously treated for abnormal changes in the cervix cells, you should undertake more frequent screening tests. The regularity of undergoing cervical screening depends on the severity of the cell change. You should report any symptom you experience in spite of having regular cervical screening. Several vaccines are used for protection from HPV infections.
  • Avoid smoking: You can prevent the chances of having cervical cancer by giving up smoking. In case of  smokers, it is more difficult to eliminate the HPV infection from the body, and the chances of cervical cancer get enhanced. You can undertake various measures in order to quit smoking and prescribed medicines can be used to treat withdrawal symptoms.

Cervical cancer causes great strain on the body and it may spread all over the pelvic region. In some cases, distant tissues are also affected by cervical cancer. You should consult a doctor immediately after experiencing any symptom of cervical cancer. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

Hii Dr. please suggest what to do for release pain after press boobs hardly first time? A day before yesterday I press boob of my wife first time during foreplay. But after that she have pain there from last two days. Can I have suggestions for release that pain?

PGDMLS, PGDHHM, LLB, PhD Surgery, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Gurgaon
Most likely, your wife must be having what is known as fibroadenosis of the breasts. This is a common occurrence at this age due to hormonal changes. Breast support (say a tight bra) and simple pain killers may help symptomatically. There are specific medicines available but they should be taken only after a professional examination by a general surgeon and after excluding other conditions. The way out, till then is to be gentle during foreplay.
