All About Acne and Scars

All About Acne and Scars

Acne is one of the most common skin problems. As many as one in two people suffer from the condition. Acne vulgaris is the most common type followed by acne rosacea and more severe acne conglobate. More boys than girls suffer from acne and it often co-occurs with the onset of puberty, as testosterone levels rise. It is likely that there is some hormonal involvement in the condition, yet dietary and environmental factors, stress and gut health can all cause acne.

It's a disease that affects the skin's oil glands. The small holes in your skin (pores) connect to oil glands under the skin. These glands make an oily substance called sebum. The pores connect to the glands by a canal called follicle. Inside the follicles, oil carries dead skin cells to the surface of the skin. A thin hair also grows through the follicle. When a follicle clogs up, acne grows. Acne is not a serious health threat, but it can cause scars.

How Does Acne Develop?

Sometimes, the hair, sebum, and skin cells clump together into a plug. The bacteria infect the plug and causes swelling. Then, as the plug starts to break down, it leads to acne. There are many types of acne. The most common types are:

  1. Whiteheads. A whitehead is a type of acne that forms when dead skin cells, oil, and bacteria become trapped within one of our pores.
  2. Blackheads. Blackheads are a specific kind of dark acne lesion, so-called because they contain oxidized melanin, the pigment made by skin cells called melanocytes.
  3. Papules. These are small pink bumps that can be tender.
  4. Pustules. This type of acne is red at the bottom and has pus-filled head.
  5. Nodules. These are large, painful, solid acne that are deep-rooted in the skin.
  6. Cysts. These are deep, painful, pus-filled acne that can cause scars.

Who Gets Acne?

Acne is the most common skin condition. People of all races and ages get acne. But it is most common in teenagers and young adults. An estimated 80 percent of all people between the ages of 11 and 30 have acne outbreaks at some point. Some people in their forties and fifties still get acne.

What Causes Acne?

The cause of acne is unknown. However, there are certain factors that might cause acne:

  1. The hormonal surge in teenage (this can cause the oil glands to plug up more often).
  2. Hormonal changes during pregnancy.
  3. Use of birth control pills.
  4. Heredity (if your parents had acne, you might get it, too).
  5. Certain types of medications.
  6. Greasy makeup.

Here are some tips for acne-affected skin:

  1. Clean skin gently.
  2. Try not to touch your acne affected area.
  3. Shave carefully.
  4. Protect your skin from sun-exposure.
  5. Choose makeup carefully.
  6. Shampoo your hair regularly.

What Can Make Acne Worse?

  • Changing hormone levels in teenage girls and women 2 to 7 days before their period starts.
  • Pressure from bike helmets, backpacks, or tight collars.
  • Pollution and high humidity.
  • Squeezing or picking at acne.
  • Hard scrubbing of the skin.

Acne Scars:

Acne may or may not lead to scarring. Some people are more prone to scarring than others. A person may have rather severe acne without a scar in sight. For others, even a benign little blemish can leave a depressed pockmark. Early treatment is the best way to prevent scars. If you are highly prone to scarring, see a Cosmetic physician or dermatologist right away to discuss acne treatment options. He or she can layout a treatment plan, to heal breakouts and prevent or treat scars.

Treatment of Acne and Scars:

Acne is treated by a cosmetic physician or a dermatologist. Treatment attempts to:

  • Heal acne.
  • Prevent new breakout.
  • Prevent scarring.

Acne requires a proper medical treatment and post acne care for dark spots/scars which are commonly associated with acne. If your skin is acne prone, you may develop dark spots and scars too. All these conditions can be treated. Apart from medical treatment which includes ointments for local application and oral medications if required, for long term benefits advanced treatments are available. These are, Chemical peels, RF therapy and enriched oxygen therapy. These are highly recommended. These treatments help acne as well as spots and scars.

I am 36 yrs, after pregnancy, my belly and breasts got sagging, please help me to solve the issue without exercise.
Exercises are good and will only tone muscles it does not help in relieving sagging. Sagging is due to undue stretching of skin and soft tissue beyond its limit due to which the tissue is unable to shrink back to its original position. This can only be corrected with plastic surgery where unwanted excess tissue is taken away and tightening is achieved. This is done by an experienced plastic surgeon

Hi, Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. Lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon, orange, gooseberry, etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, can notaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: Use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel or Bakson’s Fairness cream daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this 2-3 times a day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off. Make a paste of 'Kasturi Manjal' (wild turmeric) with rose petals, saffron and raw milk which is very effective. To exfoliate your skin, mix two teaspoons each of lemon juice and sugar. Apply the mixture on your face, neck and hands. Scrub in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy glowing skin. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder with enough pineapple juice to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and neck. Leave it on until the paste dries completely. Then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy two or three times a week to reduce the appearance of spots on skin.

First of all I want to explain something, which is very important Most common cause of hair fall is – Hereditary, Lupus, Anxiety, Thyroid Problem, Systemic problem, During stress and Pregnancy, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Fe deficiency, Excessive Styling and lastly the Product you use without the knowledge of doctor. Now I can explain that many of this condition is need for treatment. If this disease is treated hair fall is not occur and growth is seen. But in many case hair serum and supplement is needed Firstly, don't stress over it. Meditate. Practice yoga. Relax yourself. Stress will increase your hair fall. Drink two liters of water. Eat plenty of pulses, meat, fish and milk. Avoid hair cosmetics. Wash hair twice or thrice a week. Shampoo should be done to wash dirt, dust and grime and not for anything else. Don't use dyes, bleaches or straightness. Massage scalp to improve circulation. After a bath, don't blow dry your hair instead naturally dry hair. If any scalp infection, get it treated. Any allergy should be taken care of.

I am a 23 old man and I am working on cruise ship I think my body has too much heat and I get pimples on mi face and ...
Body heat in indian ayurvedic system is said to be due to pitta dosha. Pitta or body heat is important for the proper functioning of metabolism. When there is too much pitta, it results in pitta dosha. To keep your body heat in control - 1. Avoid fried, spicy foods that can cause your normal body temperature to go up. Eat cool foods like cucumber, watermelon, buttermilk. 2. Drink plenty of cold water throughout the day. 3. Sabja (basil) seeds, soaked in water for some time and then added to milk with rosewater are effective in reducing body heat. 4. Yoga exercises, such as pranayama, suryanamaskar and trikonasana help in cooling the body. 5. Herbal teas made from coriander, cumin seeds, fennel seeds and rosewater, improve metabolism. 6. You can wear clothes in light pastel colours for a cooling effect. Fabrics such as linen and cotton keep the body cool. 7. Reduce consumption of too much salt, oil and spices as they add heat to the body.

Just maintain good skin hygiene. Wash with plain cold water 3-4 times a day. Use a mild soap to clean the face twice a day. If there are pimples then do not touch them frequently or prick them as that can cause infection.

Lubricate your hair. Using a moisturizer greatly reduces the chances of split ends and promotes hair growth by diminishing breakage. However, to avoid overtly oily hair, use only a little moisturizer or try lubricating your hair a couple of hours before hair wash. Moisturized hair will attract dust if you go out.

Sir, i have been suffering from hairfall from the past one year .I think the main reason for this is due to the water changes as i was shifted to another city for doing my b.Tech and staying here for approximately one and half years .The other reason i think was both my father and mother had very thin hair .So please give me solution.?

Vaidya Visharad

Hello Dear,According to Ayurveda, hair is a byproduct of bone formation. The factors responsible for building bones are also responsible for the hair re-growth. Ayurveda doctors believe that early hair loss is related to body type and the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). Excess pitta in the sebaceous gland, at the root of the hair, or folliculitis can make the person start losing hair. We loose hair after a certain growth and new hair replaces the older one, which means recycling of hair. Hair loss means losing more hair than you naturally lose. As our hair grows under a natural process, so we can take care of growth only by natural resources and methods. Visit us at www.Malhotraayurveda.Com

There is a minor surgery which has to be done for these kind of issues. The surgery removes pores that are imbibed within the skin and makes the skin even. Post the surgery, a peels treatment for 3-4 sittings will keep you out of this problem predominately.
