I'm feeling salty taste in my mouth since 4 days. Would you tell why this happens and what should I do now.
You may be having gastroesophageal reflux disease or sinusitis infection. The possible causes of a persistent salty taste are dehydration, medications, salivary gland diseases. Be sure to brush your teeth regularly to keep bacteria from building. Improve you hydration. Certain substances like acidic or spicy foods can also aggravate your taste buds.

Hi Sir, Mere danton me bhot jhanjhnahat hoti he jab me thanda pani peeta hu. Koi upay bataye. Please advise.
Hi, teeth have a protective layer called enamel with age the enamel wears off and become thin which causes to become teeth sensitive to cold and hot. You need to get a professional check up done to know the exact cause and solution of your problem.

My teeth are getting yellow day by day. Every after brush they look yellow. What is the reason.

BDS
Dentist,
My teeth are getting yellow day by day. Every after brush they look yellow. What is the reason.
Probably you are brushing too hard with a hard toothbrush in wrong manner. Excessive brushing can lead to enamel wear which can lead to yellowing of tooth.

My tongue started with a yellow/white coating beginning at the back but not continuing half way down the front. It was difficult to swallow/spit saliva and my that mildly burnt. I continued brushing my tongue and now there's a large, red, raw patch down the back, middle. I am currently in India (consuming mire than normal chili/spices) and I am smoking and drinking quite a lot, I assume these will assist with a slight diagnosis? Thank you.

Hi from your complaint, the coating may be due to candidial infection. Because this is the one which goes off on scrapping leaving a raw area. Since this is in the posterior part of the tongue it would have spread to your throath making it difficult to swallow. This is one angle of viewing your problem. Other view is your throat would have been inflamed due to your habits and food making swallowing difficult. The raw area may be due to scrapping. Kindly conult your dentist as this problem has to be examined. Get well soon.

Braces - Which Type Is Best For You!

Braces - Which Type Is Best For You!

If you are advised to wear braces, it could be due to crooked / improperly positioned teeth which are not cosmetically pleasing or are not very efficiently chewing the food. Today, there is a big variety of braces available to correct the problems. Although all braces serve a similar purpose, but not all braces are suitable for everyone. Here, I am trying to explain some of the types of braces available, which will help you in a better understanding of braces.

  1. Metal braces: These braces are placed in the outer side of the teeth . A wire is then placed in the brackets which helps in realigning your teeth. This wire needs to be replaced from time to time with other wires usually the wires are replaced in 4 to 6 weeks. This type of braces are the most are the most affordable of the lot and thereby the most common choice.
  2. Ceramic braces: These types of braces are very similar to the metal braces in terms of functionality. The advantage of ceramic braces is that they resemble the colour of the teeth and are less noticeable. These braces are costlier than their metal counterpart and take a longer time to mount. One common complaint about these braces is that they become yellowish over time. It is therefore very important to clean your teeth properly on a daily basis.
  3. Lingual braces: Lingual braces mounted at the back of the teeth. As a result, these braces are hardly visible. They are typically recommended to those whose teeth are not very crooked and the amount of teeth straightening required is very less. These braces are ideal for those patients who require an orthodontic device for a long time. They require very good oral hygiene and are also expensive when compared to other braces.
  4. Damon braces / Self-ligating braces: Damon braces can be mounted on any patient who is fit to get for regular braces. These braces do not require any extra attachment for holding the wire in place. The wire can straight away pass through the brackets making the treatment time shorter by a good six months or so. The healing process tends to be faster with these braces and is one of the easier ones to mount onto the teeth.

They are costing almost close to the cost of the lingual braces. These details are to give you a broad overview of the types of fixed braces available. Your orthodontist will be able to discuss the pros and cons of each after analysing the changes needed and desired. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.

I am 20 year old and had a surgery in my front two teeth on 1 of November and have stitches on still up there. And as I m living in Australia. I am unable to afford stich removal for the teeth. So what should I do to remove it or get a relief from it. Is it dangerous to have the stitches for too long time. And even is it possible that stitches can cause infection.

Stitches can remain in mouth for upto 10days. It can be removed after that. It will come slack and with proper light and sterelized small scissor you should be able to remove it yourself or any family member can help you out.

From last 1 year I am having very much dirt on my tongue after waking up in the morning, very thick dirt is collected on tongue cleaner on first two swipes while cleaning tongue Why high dirt is on my tongue?

BDS

This is usually caused by food debris trapped in the spaces between the papillae, and can lead to bacterial growth and bad breath (halitosis), or soreness (see below). It’s made worse by mouth dryness – for example, in dehydration or if saliva is reduced by dry mouth or Sjogren’s syndrome, drugs such as those used for incontinence, or if we mouth-breathe (often while asleep). The coating is usually whitish-grey, but if mouth hygiene is poor (for example, because of severe illness) it can lead to a ‘black, hairy tongue’. You can remove coating by brushing your tongue every day with a toothbrush or tongue scraper (from your pharmacist). Pineapple or pineapple juice can help if it’s severe, but if it’s persistent, or you regularly have a dry mouth, this could damage your teeth, so see your GP or dentist. Geographical tongue has irregular patches which frequently change. It’s due to flattening of different papillae, although the cause isn’t known. 1 Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid sugary or acidic drinks that can cause tooth decay. 2 Keep your mouth fresh by brushing teeth (and, if necessary, your tongue), twice daily. Floss teeth, too, but don’t rinse protective fluoride toothpaste away. 3 Don’t smoke – it’s a risk factor for mouth cancer and causes bad breath. 4 Drink alcohol within recommended limits – a high alcohol intake is also linked to mouth cancer. 5 Have regular dental checks – your dentist is trained to advise on mouth health, 1. Clean the tongue on a regular basis to prevent bacteria from growing. You can use toothbrushes designed for cleaning the tongue or the ones which have an attachment on the reverse side of it. Don’t use the front part (the one you use for brushing teeth) to clean the tongue. 2. Another way is to scrape your tongue with a thoroughly washed tongue-cleaner or scraper. While scraping, don’t apply too much pressure. Scrape it in a downward motion at least two to three times. If the pressure is too much you may hurt your tongue. Brushing teeth also should be done in a particular way. Here’s what you should know about brushing your teeth. 3. You can use toothpaste to coat your tongue before scraping. Toothpaste neutralizes bacteria on tongue and helps to remove them easily. 4. Rinse your mouth with water thoroughly after scraping. 5. Occasionally, you can use a mouth wash after scraping. Mouth wash helps to remove the bad odour caused by deposition of bacteria on the tongue. But don’t use it daily as it may cause over drying of mouth. Read more about how mouth wash can fight germs in your mouth. 6. You can also rinse your mouth with saline water. Take a half glass of lukewarm water and pour a half teaspoon of salt in it. Rinse your mouth five to six times a day with it. 7. Drink green tea. It helps to eliminate oral bacteria. Read more about health benefits of green tea. 8. Avoid eating foods such as black grapes and berries. These foods can also be the culprits for unwanted colour on your tongue. 9. When you have high fever, a white layer gets formed on the top of the tongue. It can be removed by regular cleanup, but if that can’t be done, it’s a fungal infection. There are ointments for such cases to keep the tongue clean. 10. Drink loads of water. Sometimes dehydration can cause change in colour of the tongue.
