Our baby is of 1 month 20 old, we have taken all the vaccines prescribed for 45days except PCV because it is costlier. Is pcv vaccine for the infants is compulsory?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Ghaziabad
Every vaccine is compulsory if it is providing protection to your child. This vaccine prevents child from 3 dreadful diseases like pneumonia; meningitis; otitis media and sepsis. If affortability is not the criteria you go for this vaccination either of the 2 vaccinations as my colleague has mentioned.

My baby 11 months old & still weight is 6 kgs only can any one please suggest for weight gain Present baby eating below foods: rice with Dal & rice with tamarind Bread in morning & mother milk feeding only Out side milk was not drink.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
If baby is fed properly since birth, 6 kg must be at the age of about 5 months. It is obvious that either baby has not been fed since birth or he has not been given proper food at the start of weaning. Proper diet details is lacking in your description. Any way, give him solids food well cooked and prepared at home. Add complementary dairy milk three times in a day to his requirement. I am sure baby is not suffering from any ailment.

Please advise me a home remedy to improve resistance power against cold for my 7-month-old baby.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
You will need two ingridients to be planted in your house-------------------------- 1. Giloy-------- 2. Holy basil (tulsi) -------------- now what you will do in routine is to put 1 giloy leaf and 10 leafs of tulsi in a 10 litre filtered water stored in a water reservoir overnight and use this water for drinking purposes only in your family. All the family members will be free from frequent infections as this easy formula will slowly develop body immunity-----------------------------

How to control your aggressive children

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology
Psychologist, Palakkad
There are times when even the most docile children appear to have the aggressive tendencies of a professional wrestler. While a certain amount of pushing and shoving is to be expected from all children, especially when they are very young, there are a few for whom aggression becomes a way of coping with almost any situation.

These overly aggressive children are not bullies; they often get into fights with people who are stronger than they are. They face problems not because they are aggressive, but because they become aggressive at times that are inappropriate and in ways that are self-defeating. They routinely argue with teachers and wind up in far more than their share of schoolyard scraps.

In some cases, this pattern of easily triggered aggression appears to be rooted in the children’s developing nervous systems. They appear to be physiologically unable to control their impulses as much as other children their age. For others, it is often a matter of needing to learn and practice social skills.

Aggression is one of the first responses to frustration that a baby learns. Grabbing, biting, hitting, and pushing are especially common before children develop the verbal skills that allow them to talk in a sophisticated way about what they want and how they feel.

Coping with a Very Aggressive Child

It’s difficult for adults not to attribute malicious motives to children who consistently appear to be trying to drive their parents and teachers to distraction. Often it’s equally difficult for parents not to assume that children are behaving this way because of something the parents have done wrong or have forgotten to do right. Such casting of blame, however, is not only inaccurate but usually useless as well.

The first step in helping an overly aggressive child is to look for patterns in what triggers the assaults, especially if the child is a toddler or preschooler. The aggression may happen only at home or only in public places. It may occur mostly in the afternoon or when the child is frustrated. Also, most of these children go through a predictable sequence of behaviors before they lose control. It’s a bit like watching a car going through a normal acceleration and then suddenly kicking into overdrive.

Once you can determine the most common triggers and can spot the escalating behavior, the simplest thing is to remove the child from that environment before he loses control. Take him away from the sandbox or the playgroup for a minute or two until he regains his composure. As the child develops, he will become less frustrated and, therefore, less aggressive because he has a wider variety of ways to respond to a challenging situation.

It’s also very useful to provide these aggressive and distractible children with a lot of structure and routine in their daily lives since predictability helps children remain calm and in control. Tempting as it may be at the time, spanking these children for being aggressive often does more harm than good. It is simply modeling the very thing you don’t want children to do. It teaches them that big people hit when they’re angry or upset, and that is precisely the aggressive child’s problem.

For older children and adolescents, teaching new and more appropriate ways of getting what they want can be very helpful. These children often have not learned the skills that their classmates picked up years earlier. As with bullies, formal assertiveness training can be particularly helpful to overly aggressive children since they have difficulty distinguishing between assertiveness and aggression.

It’s also useful to help these children look at life from a slightly different perspective. Psychologists have found that both aggressive children and their parents tend to focus on what’s wrong with a situation rather than what’s right with it. That makes their respective problems all the more frustrating for each of them, since neither pays any attention to the children’s improvement when it occurs.

My son is 1.5 years old. His weight is only 9.5 kg. Pls suggest how should increase his weight. His height is 78' and he's a active child. His birth weight was 3.6 kg.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
It's normal height & weight. If you expect more than this he will be overweight. Because of increased activity children don't put on weight during 2nd year.

Keep area clean with plain water. Keep it dry, don't put any cream unless prescribed by doctor. Avoid spilling of milk over there. Avoid heavy clothing so sweat doesn't cause irritation and friction.

Try to give variety of semi solid food to develop her taste but do not force to eat. food may be tried like daliya, khichadi, dal n chapati pieces, suji kheer, haluwa, mashed potato etc etc. Increase quntity and frequency gradually after she starts eating. continue breast feeding and top milk. Still if u have any query, please consult privately.

Hai doctor I have 3 months baby but I have low milk supply for that I am taking daily two times oats with cinnamon to increase milk feeding, is there any side effect to take this oats with cinnamon?

BHMS
Homeopath, Kochi
One of the best ways to increase milk supply is to keep on nursing your little one. Making milk from your baby is better than any other method to make milk in your body. The stimulations of the nerves during breastfeeding helps produce more milk in the breasts. The emptying of the milk signals your body to increase the milk production. If you feel your milk supply stills needs an improvement, then you should consider adding foods that promote milk production. Milk stimulating foods are called galactagogues. Oat meal, spinach, carrot, funnel seeds, basil leaves, garlic, barley, asparagus, cumin seeds, apricots, drum sticks , etc helps to increase quantity and quality of milk. If you are not satisfied with result of these diets, we can try some simple homoeopathic medicines which l surely give you best result

Hi, my son is 24 months old. His head remains hotter than rest of his body. Except this, he is absolutely fine and healthy. Is there anything to worry?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Normally maximum brain growth occurs till the age of 2 years. Hence blood supply will be more to the head. This is the reason for the head to be warm in this age.
