Hi. My baby is 47 days old. Morning time she never sleeps. She sleeps only in night for 5-6 hours. But if I wake her in between for feeding she is not sleeping after that. But if I don't not wake her she sleeps continuously for 6 hours also. Please advise if can I leave her to sleep continuously for 5-6 hours?

Hello, library user, you are lucky enough that your baby sleeps in the night as in most of cases, babies do not sleep in the night & cry for the whole night. However, she should not be left for 6 hrs, continuously without feeding & be breastfed, three hourly. Inculcate your expertise to manage your baby to sleep ,thereafter. Tk, care.

My daughter is 5 months 22 days old. Need to start the diet for her thought of cerelac but there are so many variants available so I got confused. Please suggest which would be best for her and also suggest some good diet plan. Thank you.

Timely thinking indeed! the very purpose of top semisolid feeds started at this age is to support growth demands n to empower enable child to take routine home/family food at one year age any staple cereal mix with pulses/grams/nuts in 3: 1 proportion with added energy dense ghee/oil, jaggery/sugar cooked n made incrementally semisolid is acceptable. Prefered are custom made home cereal mixes. Acceptable but less favoured options of commercial cereal mix only in compelling situations like working mothers, travel, hygiene issues. Hardly anything to choose between variety of available flavours. Just ensure age limits recommendations. Mashed fruits, roots, veg to be started bit later. Avoid top milk, animal proteins upto 9 mths. Start with 4 feeds a day n increase gradually the volume, variety, thickness as per taste n acceptance of baby. Happy feeding.

I have a 2.5 year old nephew he is able to speak few basic words like mama ,mummy, Nana,Didi etc but he is not able ...
By 2.5, child is expected to talk in sentences but some exceptions are possible. You need to get the developmental assessment done in detail if he has issue with concentration OR is he always on the run OR do you feel he doesn't respond to name call OR if he doesn't maintain eye contact while interacting with you all. If you can share a small video of his I might be able to guide.

My son is having sweet allergy where has if he had any sweets, chocolates, or biscuits in 12hrs. he will get much cough. Thats why we are not giving any food that couse to cough. please tell me any suggestion to not coming of cough

MBBS
Pediatrician, Ernakulam
He is unlikely to have sweet alllergy, however too much of sweets, biscuits is not a great idea. Excess of junk would reduce appetite and results in poor uptake of home foods. Please concentrate on fruits and vegetables. To avoid cough, remove him from dusty environment,no exposure to smoke, paint, polluted areas. Please note that children who attend day care centres have a increased tendency to coughs and colds

I am 25 years old. I am suffering from Respiration problems from 2010. Is there any cure for this problem. I have to take Cipla - Montair LC twice in a day. And sometimes have to take levolin capsule inhaler. I want a cure of this problem.

MBBS, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Aurangabad
according to our science you have to take medication very meticulously and regularly as asthma is not completely curable like diabetes and hypertension. You take not only levolin inhaler but some steroid inhaler as it will prevent latter fibrosis of your lungs.

When a breastfed baby has a bowel movement after nearly every feeding during the first few weeks, it's a good sign – it means he's getting plenty of milk. But it's normal for them to poop after every feeding as well.

6 Most Common Ear Ailments In Children!

DNB (ENT), Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS

6 Most Common Ear Ailments In Children!

The ear is made up of three parts that is outer, middle and the inner part. Infections, disorders and ailments in the ear can occur across all age groups and in any part of the ear. Ear ailments are more common in children than in adults as the Eustachian tubes (tubes which drain out ear fluid) are smaller in children.

Here are a few common ailments which occur in children:

  1. Acute otitis media: AOM is the most common ear infection in children. Some parts of the middle ear are infected, resulting in swelling and blockage of fluid behind the eardrum. This condition is characterised by earache in children and in graver conditions, can also cause fever.
  2. Otitis media with effusion: This condition usually occurs due to the infestation of an infection when the fluid gets restricted behind the ear drum. This condition doesn’t exhibit too many symptoms except mild earache. You should visit an ENT specialist who can diagnose this condition by checking the concentration of fluid behind the eardrum using special instruments.
  3. Chronic otitis media with effusion: This condition occurs in children when the fluid remains trapped behind the eardrum for a long period of time. It can lead to serious infection and cause problems in hearing in children.
  4. Barotrauma: Barotrauma occurs due to changes in atmospheric pressure changes. It can cause problems in the Eustachian tube and causes trapping of air in the middle ear. Middle ear problems can become severe if left untreated and result in a burst in the eardrum, causing excessive bleeding.
  5. Meniere's disease: This is a disorder, which comes in bouts and is characterised by vertigo and fluctuating hearing loss. This condition usually affects one ear. It can result in tinnitus (ringing in the ear) or permanent loss of hearing if left untreated.
  6. Swimmer’s ear: Swimmer’s ear, also known as otitis externa, is a common condition which is caused in the outer area of the ear. This condition is caused due to remnants of chlorine water in the ear or because of inserting swabs too deep inside the canal. This condition is characterised by earache, discomfort and itching of the ear.

Pain before and during passing the urine could be normal. But if baby has fever with shivering and loss of weight then first morning sample of the urine should be tested in laboratory to see for any infection. But most if the times it is normal.

My 5.5 month old son has developed flat head on back side. Please tell some remedy to correct the shape of his head. ...
Hi There is no need to worry at all. You need to use a pillow for him that will help to get a proper shape. Usually a simple small pillow is enough. You can also use the traditional pillow prepared by filling mustard seeds instead of cotton. It also helps. No medication is needed for this as such. If it persists even after 3 months of using the pillow then contact me.

He appears to be a fussy eater. Most importantly you need to be patient with. Don't shout or scream while feeding him. Try to make her feeding time fun or playtime. After not giving any food for 3 hrs at least make him sit with the food he likes (solid foods not pastes or liquids) with spoon and katori or fork. Let him at least play with the food for some time. If he likes milk a lot then try to give solid like plain rice, oats. Chatu. With the pediasure you can have a deal with him. He will take 1 sip milk and 1 bite of something this way he will learn to chew threptin biscuits are good to taste and are rich in protein (casein) avoid giving him chips fast food makes small pieces of food and ask her to try just 1 bite. If he likes the taste she will have another. If he likes chicken. Give him chicken in different ways. Introduce him to egg. Boiled or omelette whatever he likes. Play with him till he feels tired. Playing running will improve digestion. Don't loose temper you can give him one egg a day cucumbers made into small pieces will help with problem of flatulence. Children have to deal with new food, new habits. So they act out. Do not get flustered if he criesmakes a scene. Sit quietly, go to another room, ignore him. He will learn that bad behaviour will not allow him to get her own way. I know it's very difficult but keep trying as that's the best you can give him. Pain abdomen may be due indigestion earmarked, gastritis. Good hand hygiene: regular nail trimming washing hand after each toilet visit. And before taking any food in any form also take care of drinking water quality. Test adviced: cbc with aec stool and urine r/e, m/e usg abdomen share the reports if any.
