Breast cancer and heart ki problem mai kya similarity hoti hai? Symptoms kya same hotey hai.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Both usually occur in higher strata of society, risk factors are smoking alcohol, lack of exercise, fatty diet, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, unhealthy eating habits. Symptoms are obviously different. Breast cancer presents as painless lump, nipple discharge, skin changes, heart problems may present as pain in chest radiating to Arms, back, jaws etc. There may be swelling of feet, palpitations and sometimes breathing difficulty.

Diagnosed with stomach cancer , need to know whether it is treatable or not , how can we know & what are the examinations we should perform.

Post Doctoral Research (Ph.D.) (A.M) (Oncology), Integrative Oncology for Physicians (MSKCC, N.Y, USA), Doctor of Natural Medicine (N.D/ N.M.D), Ayurveda (I) Cert., Advanced Strategic Management (APSM), B.E (Computer Sc. & Engg.), Clinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions (CME) - (Cine-Med Inc. Alternative Medicine Specialist, Bhubaneswar
Hi, I appreciate you seeking help. Stomach cancer is very much treatable. However, the possibility of a cure is influenced by a couple of factors including the cancer's stage and its associated comorbidities, age, vitality, gene expressions, chromosomes affected, histopathological grading and the type of cancer etc all. I would advise you to connect with an oncologist specializing in gastric cancers for the way forward. A integrative treatment with alternative medicines can certainly improve clinical outcomes. You can connect as appropriate, anytime. Take care and all the very best.

What kind of precautions are to be taken to avoid from causing blood cancer and brain caner?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
You can only screen to diagnose early the above cancers because there are very few risk factors known. One of them is radiation exposure, so avoid any undue exposure. Watch for any symptoms like prolonged fever frequent infection bleeding, easy bruising, lumps or neurological symptoms like frequent headache, vomiting, neurological deficit, paralysis, abnormal behaviour.

Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), MS - Urology, MBBS

Dear , for better advice you got to give me more details of your complaints. Bladder outlet obstruction is caused by enlarged prostate gland which is usually due to age. Give me urine report and sonography reports with full bladder volume, bladder wall thickness and post void residual urine. Do you have some delay in starting urination? how many times do you pass urine in a day and also at night? is the flow weak? do you feel that you are emptying bladder or do you feel some urine is left behind? please post the results with pictures and the answers of the questions.

How many reason of blood cancer? Which type medicins are available for blood cancer in india? How many percentage for live patient? And please tell me Ayurvedic medicine for blood cancer.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, blood cancer is usually caused by some mutations or change in genes which control the growth of blood cells. Blood is composed of multiple cells, rbc, wbc, platelets, plasma cells etc. Treatment depends on type of cells effected. Leukaemias have many long term survivors and is nearly curable, but one has to be tolerant enough to complete the treatment and be on regular follow up. I am not aware of ayuvedic medication.

I am 15 years old. I had giant cell tumor at the neck of proximal femur. Surgery is performed within bone graft on 9th march 2016. But after 6 months it is looked that local recurrence is started. So now what should I do?

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, having already attempted surgery once and with the tumor recurring locally, I would advise you to meet up a medical oncologist specializing in bone and musculoskeletal cancers for further evaluation and traction as appropriate. Now that it has not responded favorably to surgery, further treatment with medicines could possibly control the progression of the disease. Try have blackberries, cranberries, black grapes, plums, raw black olives, blueberries, sweet cherries, dark chocolates etc. All as a part of your regular diet. Simultaneously, an integrative treatment with natural medicines may help improve clinical outcomes. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.

Hello doctor. My age is 21. I have pain in my left breast since 7-8 days. Pehle bhi pain hua hai lekin wo bas 1 din he rahta tha. hamesha esa hota he rehta tha bas 1 din. Mujhe lagta tha ki heart me pain hai. Gastric problem hogi isliye jyada dhani ni diya par abhi feel ho raha h ki problem breast me hai. Thoda sa bhi left breast me pressure pad raha hai ya kuch touch ho raha hai toh pain ho raha hai. What should I do. Is this symptom of breast cancer. Should I consult a doctor. Please give some advice.

Fellow Breast Surgery (MUHS), DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
Oncologist, Aurangabad
Hello lybrate-user. Pain in breast is a common phenomenon in ladies, especially young ladies in reproductive age group. That means the age in which ladies can become pregnant. Due to hormonal changes, there are certain changes that happen in breast also, leading to heaviness and dragging pain. Sometimes it is more on one side. The other cause of breast pain could be breast cancer. Usually it is associated with other breast complaints like a lump, discharge from nipple, skin ulcer etc. Although, in your age without any other complaints it is highly unlikely that it is breast cancer but cannot be ruled out 100%, only based on history. There are other rare causes of breast pain, which your surgeon will rule out on examination. So I would strongly suggest to go and visit a breast surgeon.

6 months ago, I had a colon cancer surgery. After seeing the MSI report, doctor is advised me chemotherapy is not required. After my surgery I have a routine 3 months checkup, after my surgery I had 2 CEA tests where it showed 0.0 ng/ml. Today I took my CEA test, the third one after my surgery and showed 0.8 ng/ml. Could you please explain this? Thanks and regards. Ramanathan.

Dear lybrate-user, the history you are giving, it means you had very early stage of cancer which was completely resected out. Also there was no abdominal lymph node involvement. In such no chemotherapy is required but timely suprvision is needed, you should consider that you are cured from this trouble after surgery.

There is nothing to be afraid but you should tell all these things to your parents and doctor. You don't have cancer so just relax and tell your parents.

What is a cancer. What are it is symptoms. How it is so critical disease. How can we prevent it. At which stage it is dangerous. Why cancer is a silent killer.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, cancer is a disease which is caused by abnormal growth of cells due to fault in the genes which control the growth of the cells. This is critical due to its unpredictable nature of spread and uncertain prognosis. It affects one organ, destroy it's function, spread to other other then multiple organs may be affected causing it's failure. Generally four stages are there, fourth being most dangerous. It is a silent killer as most of its symptoms are ignored in early stages and by the time it's diagnosed it is mostly late.

What are the symptoms of of cancer? From five days I was suffering from wooophing cough is that a chance of cancer? I have habit of smoking.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You may have what is called a 'smokers cough'. But since you are worried I suggest you can go for a test by consulting your doctor. For the symptoms of cancer: Lung Cancer Signs and Symptoms (Sourced from Medicinenet.com) Lung cancer is the most common cancer in men and the fifth most common in women, even causing more cancer-related deaths in women than breast cancer. The incidence of lung cancer is strongly correlated with cigarette smoking, with about 90% of lung cancers arising as a result of tobacco use. Symptoms of lung cancer are varied dependent upon the exact location of the tumor and the extent of its spread. A person with lung cancer may have the following kinds of symptoms: • No symptoms - Up to 25% of people who get lung cancer do not have any symptoms when the cancer is found. In these cases the cancer is first discovered on a routine chest X-ray or computerized tomography(CT) scan performed for another reason. • Symptoms related to the cancer - The growth of the cancer and invasion of the lung and surroundings may lead to symptoms such as cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, chest pain, and coughing up blood (hemoptysis). If the cancer has invaded nerves, it may cause shoulder pain that travels down the outside of the arm (called Pancoast syndrome) or paralysis of the nerves traveling to the vocal cords that leads to hoarseness. Invasion of the esophagus may lead to difficulty swallowing (dysphagia). If a large airway is obstructed, collapse of a portion of the lung may occur and cause infections (abscesses, pneumonia) in the obstructed area. • Symptoms related to metastasis (spread to other organs) - Lung cancer that has spread to the bones may produce excruciating pain at the sites of bone involvement. Cancer that has spread to the brain may cause a number of neurologic symptoms that may include blurred vision, headaches, seizures, confusion or altered thought processes, or symptoms of stroke. • Paraneoplastic symptoms - Lung cancers frequently are accompanied by so-called paraneoplastic syndromes that result from production of hormone-like substances by the tumor cells that are released into the blood. A common paraneoplastic syndrome associated with one type of lung cancer is the production of a hormone called adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) by the cancer cells, leading to over secretion of another hormone, cortisol, by the adrenal glands (Cushing's syndrome). • Nonspecific symptoms - Nonspecific symptoms seen with many cancers, including lung cancers, include weight loss, weakness, and fatigue. It is important always to consult a doctor if a person develops the symptoms associated with lung cancer, in particular: • A new persistent cough or worsening of an existing chronic cough • Blood in the sputum • Persistent bronchitis or repeated respiratory infections • Chest pain • Unexplained weight loss and/or fatigue • Breathing difficulties such as shortness of breath or wheezing My advise to you is to quit smoking whether you have any of the symptoms or not. Smoking is just very dangerous to your health.

For early breast cancer surgery as breast conservation surgery or mastectomy is mainstay of treatment followed by 6-8 cycles of chemotherapy as per histopathology report. Adjuvant rt and adjuvant hormone therapy also depends on histopathology and ihc report.

Hi, I'm a 26 years old female and have been experiencing a swollen lymp node in my armpit for the last two yrs. It is moveable and painless but my arm pains when I do chores or any other lifting. It felt very prominent when I sleep to the side where it is located. Is this serious?

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear, being there for last two years gives the impression it is not malignant. It may be infected cyst. Better is to get it removed. It may become painless after medical treatment but the it will get repeated infection and give rise to pain.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, having gone through the description of your issue, I do not think there is a reason to worry. Nevertheless, I would advise you still to get this clinically examined by a skin specialist, and proceed as he/ she recommends. Do take care, and all the very best.
