I have gap in my frontal teeth of 0.5 cm. What treatment should be done to cure it?

I have gap in my frontal teeth of 0.5 cm. What treatment should be done to cure it?
Lybrate-user management of the gap will depend on many factors. Was the gap present from childhood or has it developed later? do you have any habits? in a nutshell, you need a proper evaluation before the best course of treatment can be decided keeping in mind your needs, time and cost. The best treatment option would be orthodontic correction (braces) as it would not require the physical alteration of any original tooth. The other options are, ceramic / composite veneers & crowns.

Composite Veneer Vs Porcelain Veneer

BDS, FICOI, MDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Composite Veneer Vs Porcelain Veneer

Negatively altered tooth shape or color affects not just the aesthetics, but also the person’s social image and self confidence. It can convert them into introverts who shy away from socialization. Teeth can lose their shape or color due to various reasons from hypo mineralized teeth, to food/tobacco stains, to fractures, trauma or tooth decay. If you are looking for a brilliant white smile with the perfect shape and alignment then veneers have the inherent ability of correcting all minor dental flaws creating a near perfect result.

A Veneer like its namesake is a thin perfectly shaped extension of tooth colored material which maybe composite , ceramic or a combination of the two. While composite resin veneers are fabricated over the affected tooth in a single sitting, the porcelain veneer requires taking impressions and the veneers are fabricated in the lab, which are then fixed on the tooth.

Veneers also help correct minor discolorations and mildly mishapen teeth. The choice of using composite or porcelain depends on a number of factors. Composite resin has a big advantage of reversibility. If the end result is not very satisfactory, then the entire restoration can be removed and a new veneer can be applied. With porcelains, the biggest advantage is their excellent resistance to staining. Even with long term use of coffee and tea, the chances of staining the porcelain veneers would be minimal.

Some of the properties of composite include:

  1. Requires less tooth reduction than a porcelain, thereby saving more natural tooth structure
  2. The material is extremely plastic and resinous, allowing sufficient working time for the dentist to achieve the desired shape and size of the veneer
  3. It is slightly porous and therefore, has a tendency to absorb water over a period of time and take in some stain
  4. Should be polished extremely well to achieve the natural looks
  5. May require replacement after about 3 to 5 years
  6. Can be done in one dental clinic visit

Some of the unique characteristics of porcelain include:

  1. The result of a well-done porcelain veneer produces an extremely natural looking tooth
  2. The best advantage of porcelain is that it is not porous and therefore once it is glazed, does not stain over a period of time. The typical discoloration around the edges of the veneers seen in composite restorations is not seen with porcelain veneers
  3. These veneers therefore last longer than the composite resin veneers
  4. They are more expensive compared to the composite resin veneers.
  5. They require at least 2-3 dental visits

The choice of the material for veneer and the result would depend ultimately on the patient’s aesthetic requirements and overall oral health maintenance. Having a detailed discussion with the dentist will help in choosing the right material and getting the maximum benefit out of it. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist and ask a free question.

My mouth smell very bad what should I do so that it smell good?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
My mouth smell very bad what should I do so that it smell good?
Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need deep cleaning. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

How I release from my dental pain?

BDS, MDS
Dentist,
Tooth pain could be due to various reasons, the most common being dental caries that forms a cavity within the tooth exposing the underlying nerve. Treating the tooth is the best option for which you need to consult a dentist and emergency treatment includes to run a course of antibiotics and pain killers. But not all pain killers work on tooth pain so please avoid self medication. You can consult me for this

As such your diet habits should be corrected first, yellowish tooth are due to improper dental hygiene, daily your tooth brushing time should be at least 5 min. And for bad breath you can use mouth wash solutions available, and add one cap of chlorhexidine 15 ml of plain water and gargle 2-3 times. If not improved then go for scaling and cleaning.

When I am eating sweets my teeths are painning.

When I am eating sweets my teeths are painning.
Pain when taking sweets can be caused due to a number of reasons a few are mentioned below. 1. If the pain is localized in one tooth, it might be due to deep cavity where it has reached the pulp (the nerve and blood supply of the tooth) 2. If the pain is generalized, then it may be due to a. Many cavities in different teeth b. Gum recession which cause the roots to be exposed (the roots are more sensitive than the crown part) but all in all, it is always best to consult a dentist in person as they can see and confirm the actual cause of the pain and also suggest a good treatment plan.
