I am suffering from migraine so I used to take crocin twice or thrice in a week since last 5-6 years. And now I am suffering from stomach pains as well as other problems. Whenever I eat something the pain starts, the doctor has prescribed me rabic dsr and florawell but no improvement is there. Also he has recommended me sibelium 10 mg for migraine but it is making me depressed and tired. Need help. What medicines should I take?

MD, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Might be because of painkillers. You have gastritis or a gastric ulcer. Continue rabic dsr once daily on empty stomach for 2 weeks. Avoid any over the counter pain killers. Crocin is safe. Start naprox 500mg twice daily for 3 to 4 days during migraine attack. Coffee works wonders in migraine but again can lead to gastritis.

I am suffering from migraine from past 3 years. Only at the time of treatment ill be ok ok but after completing the course again it will come. What to do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Migrain is a form of headache. The pain is usually throbbing, pulsating and bursting in character. At times, the pain is one sided or may involve the whole head. Such pain may last for hours or even days. It is often accompanied by other symptoms like nausea or vomiting. At the same time, there is increased sensitivity to light and sound. The causes of the problem may vary from one patient to another and so will the final choice of the homeopathic remedy will also vary. Prevention tips :- 1. Keep a headache diary: This may help you in identifying the trigger factors such as foods, activities and weather 2. Exercise regularly: Regular exercise, yoga and relaxation techniques such as meditation can also be of great help. 3. Keep regular sleep patterns: Sleep adequately. Sleeping too much or too less can trigger migraine. 4. Watch out what you eat:Foods such as caffeine and Chinese foods that contain monosodium glucamate and chocolates cheese are well-known trigger factors. 5. Eat regularly: Fasting is a very common trigger in many people. If it is such a factor for you too, make sure that you eat at regular intervals. ***Selection of Homoeopathic remedy depends upon the totality of your symptoms. So please share your symptoms.

Brain Tumor Surgery - Know The Common Types!

Brain Tumor Surgery - Know The Common Types!

Although surgery is considered to be the first step of treatment in any form of tumor but its feasibility depends upon the type, size and location of the tumor. It is not necessary that every kind of brain tumor might require surgery.

Indications of Brain Tumor Surgery

  • Diagnosis of the type of tumor by taking a sample of the tumor for laboratory examination
  • Complete resection of tumor
  • Removal of the tumor as much as possible to slow down its growth and improve the symptoms.
  • Remove the tumor in order to help other treatment
  • Provide direct access for other forms of treatment like chemotherapy, radiotherapy etc.
  • To relieve pressure caused by tumor on surrounding structures

Types of Brain Tumor Surgery

The different types of surgery that are performed in cases of brain tumor include the following:

1. Craniotomy: Craniotomy is the most commonly performed procedure to remove brain tumor along with a piece of bone. The removed bone is replaced and the tumor is sent for histopathology (biopsy). The surgery is performed using a high end microscope by any of the following techniques:

  • Extended bifrontal craniotomy
  • "Eyebrow" craniotomy (supra-orbital craniotomy)
  • "Keyhole" craniotomy (retro-sigmoid craniotomy)
  • Orbitozygomatic craniotomy
  • Translabyrinthine craniotomy

2. Shunt: A narrow piece of flexible tube with a pressure regulated valve in between is called a shunt. This is used to relieve the intracranial pressure caused by obstruction of the natural brain fluid (CSF) pathway by tumor mass. The procedure involves insertion of a drainage system into the brain to remove or drain excess of blocked fluid into the peritoneal cavity.

3. Stereotactic surgery: This surgery is done by creating a three-dimensional image called stereotaxy using computers. It aims to find out the location and position of the tumor. In fact it can also be done to aid tumor removal, implant radiation pellets or for other treatments.

4. Embolization: It is a procedure used to reduce the amount of blood supply to a tumor by blocking the blood flow in the selected arteries. It is generally performed before the main surgery.

Endoscopy and endoscope assisted surgery: Endoscope is the tool which helps to closely visualize the tissue through small openings in difficult to reach areas. This tool can be used in various brain surgeries to precisely reach the target location without damaging the adjacent structures.

Adjuvant modalities to improve outcome: In addition to above mentioned surgeries, following surgeries may also be performed in relation to brain tumor treatment:

  • Laser surgery
  • Photodynamic laser surgery
  • Ultrasonic aspiration
  • Fluorescent-guided surgery
  • Electrophysiological monitoring. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Neurosurgeon.

Hi I am rana from Kolkata I have insomnia problem please help me I used to take ayurvedic medication thanks.
I can understand how disturbing an interuppted, inappropriate or disturbed sleep can affect your day to day life. In india it has been found 55% of patients are suffering from insomnia just because of stress, distractions and anxiety. So the best way to get rid from insomnia is to reduce the stress level. A physiotherapist can help you to give you the ways to relax your mind and give you comfort and stress full sleep. You can continue taking ayurvedic medicines also. If required consult some neurologist/neuropyschiatric and start taking medicine if it is due to some neurological discorder. And consult nearby physio who can make a perfect routine and daily life styl chart to make you relax so that you get an appropriate sleep. Please follow some points that will help you in such condition along with medical treatment: 1) use of ice packs over your eyes or frontal area for some time to give relaxation. 2) massage your head especially forehead area using levander oil or clove oil as it removes toxins from body 3) regular intake of healthy dietry food rich in proteins and vitamins. 4) avoid fasting - eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at fixed timings 5) make yourself busy by fulfilling your hobby as it will give you freshness and your mind will be diverted from normal life which help in pain reduction. 6) before sleeping time do some relaxation exercises. - sit on chair with both the hands placed on the pillow placed over thighs. - deep inhale from your nose, mouth should be closed. - hold your breath for the count of 5. - exhale completely from mouth making a loud sound. Continue to do this exercise for 10 times. Before going to bed make a habit of doing this daily. Modified technique of same exercise is while inhaling extend your arms, hold for 5 count and then exhale making your arms back in the rest position. 7) room modification while sleep - make sure room should be dark with no noise. Avoid sleeping immediately after dinner or food. Take a walk for 15 min and then come back, bed should be not too soft not too hard. 8) it is recommended to drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water per day. It is also a very good habit to start and finish your day by drinking a good glass of purifying water. 9) exerices like aerobics (running) can be done to make your muscles active. Many other ways are there in order to maintain your life stress free and active so that you can continue to sleep on time and it does affect your life. For more help or instructions please consult. Hello, only numbness of left hand without any headache makes the diagnosis migraine bit difficult. Migraine is a disorder of blood vessels and nerves where mri and eeg are expected to be normal. We do those to rule out other possibilities. Kindly consult general physician or neurologist for detailed analysis of symptoms so that proper diagnosis is done. Migraine is a controllable disease all you need to do is to take a course of medications for 6 months.

I have epilepsy problem last 13 years can it will be ok or not .my age is 21 year.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Latur
Epilepsy is debilitating but treatable condition with range of effective medications available today. After having made a confirmed diagnosis of type of epilepsy and according to patients profile, anti-epileptic medicines can be started and seizures (fits) can be brought under control. Along with regular treatment patient and family needs a proper counselling and guidance about nature of condition and necessity of regular treatment as most of the times improper compliance can worsen Epilepsy. Patient also needs to take care of certain specific seizure provoking conditions and family should have a proper plan in place to manage emergencies to prevent any injury. Review of treatment can be done after seizures are brought under control for sufficiently longer duration and decision can be taken to stop medicines if condition of patient permits so. I hope this solves your queries.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
4 simple ways to manage diabetic peripheral neuropathy (dpn)

You're probably familiar with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (dpn), which is nerve damage that?s caused by chronic high blood sugar. Dpn tends to be the most common complication of diabetes. Some of its symptoms include a tingling or burning sensation, difficulty walking, and numbness, especially in your feet and toes. If left untreated, dpn can eventually lead to amputation.
while dpn seems to be a growing problem within the african-american community, here are four ways to keep your dpn under control.

1. Don?t smoke.
ever notice how ?don?t smoke? is always somewhere on these types of lists? well, there?s a good reason for it. When you smoke, your arteries narrow and harden, reducing the amount of blood flow to your legs and feet, which makes it more difficult for wounds to heal.
2. Keep your blood sugar levels in check.
if you?re a diabetic, then you already know how important it is to monitor your blood sugar levels. When you have dpn, inconsistent blood sugar levels put you at risk for nerve damage, which can ultimately lead to amputation.
3. Take good care of your feet.
when you have dpn, it?s a definite must that you thoroughly wash and dry your feet on a daily basis. Also, always make sure that your shoes are well-fitted and that your socks are clean and dry. Be sure to trim your toenails straight across ? or have them trimmed by a professional. Lastly, stay away from any antiseptic products and sharp tools, including nail files, as they may cause injury and further damage.
4. Communicate with your doctor.
inspect your feet regularly. If you notice anything unusual, such as a foot injury that?s taking longer to heal than normal, inform your doctor right away! ask me privately here
