I am 25 years old. I have gap between my front teeth. It is due to the oversized labial frenum. Please let me know if there is any treatment to close the gap and how many days it takes and how much it may cost. Thanks in advance.

Dear, why are you worried about the gap. It is taken as good omen and a lucky sign, if it is really wide and affecting your looks than this can be treated. Cost will be decided only after you are examined and proper treatment planning is explained to you, will be within affordable limits only.

Hello, bleeding gums could be because of deposits on teeth surface or food lodged in between teeth. Visit a dentist and get your scaling and polishing done. For more white teeth, you can go for bleaching and whitening procedure. Brush your teeth twice daily, night brushing is very important. Floss regularly. Rinse after every meal. Visit dentist every 6 months.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (model study, full mouth & profile x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need fixed / removable braces or surgical correction (functional or cosmetic). Requirements may depends on the age, complaint, duration of the treatment & affordability. Cost of cosmetic dentistry (braces or surgical correction) varies with dentist. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Hello Doctor, I am suffering from mouth blister for last two month I want to know that is that mouth ulcer? Please advise.

Hello Doctor, I am suffering from mouth blister for last two month I want to know that is that mouth ulcer? Please ad...
If the mouth ulcer is causing a lot of pain, gently rub a small ice cube over the spot or rinse your mouth with ice-cold water. You could also chew on a clove bud (lavang) and direct the juice generated to the area where the ulcer is located. Clove buds are a great ingredient to cure sore throat too. To prevent the ulcerated area from getting infected, make it a point to rinse your mouth with a little salt water. Remember, this won’t make the ulcer disappear, but it can help reduce the pain. Honey is a natural humectant. It helps reduce scarring and hastens the process of new tissue growth. This, along with its anti-microbial effect ensures faster healing of the mouth ulcer. Chew a few leaves of tulsi along with some water about three to four times every day. This will help in getting rid of ulcers faster and also have a preventive action against their recurrence. Applying a little coconut oil directly onto the mouth ulcer or chewing some coconut (fresh or dry) helps reduce pain and inflammation and hence, ulcers heal faster. Mix some sugar to crushed khus-khus seeds and consume this mixture for instant relief from ulcers. You could apply a little ghee directly to the ulcerated area, or drink a glass of buttermilk two or three times every day. Mouth ulcers left untreated generally go away in a week or so; with these home remedies, you can expect faster relief. However, if you notice an ulcer in the mouth that is persistently present although it does not cause you any pain, do not neglect it or try to treat it with home remedies beyond a few days. Make it a point to see a doctor soon because often, a painless mouth ulcer is one of the earliest signs of oral cancer.

After removing braces in most of the cases we suggest for retention appliance. The one which is given to you is also used for retention. In case you are seeing spaces again , visit your dentist. Mostly it is not giving proper retention. you can go for fixed retention after consulting your dentist

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity
Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

It is said that apple cider vinegar whitens teeth Can you prescribed how to use it please. Thanks N Daruwalla.

It is said that apple cider vinegar whitens teeth Can you prescribed how to use it please.
Thanks
N Daruwalla.
Dear Lybrate user, apple cider vinegar is know to be used a s a mild mouthrinse but it does not cause teeth whitening with single use. MOREOVER, IT IS VERY ACIDIC IN NATURE SO IT SHOULD NOT BE BROUGHT IN CONTACT WITH THE TEETH WITHOUT DILUTING. High acidic nature can lead to enamel damage and erosion. Use a very gentle/soft toothbrush for brushing after waiting for 30 minutes. You can dilute one part apple cider with 2-3 parts water and rinse your mouth with it. Be careful as to not to follow it as a long term daily routine. If you are not satisfied with the natural color of your teeth, better to go for proper treatment options like bleaching or whitening rather than using a product whose use and benefits for teeth are not documented properly. Otherwise, it's very good for your body health.

Dental Abscess - Causes And Symptoms

BDS
Dentist, Gurgaon
Dental Abscess - Causes And Symptoms

Dental abscess is characterized by pus formation in the teeth or the gums. This infection may occur either in the gums or the tip of the tooth. It usually occurs due to a bacterial infection which may enter the mouth through food, thus causing accumulation of plaque. If the plaque is not removed by following proper dental hygiene, then it may result in abscess.

The various factors that increase your chances of getting affected by dental abscess are a sugar rich diet and poor oral hygiene. You should brush your teeth to prevent symptoms of dental abscess. A diet that has too much sugar may lead to cavities that increases your risk of dental abscess.

Dental abscess may be classified into three types

  1. Periodontal abscess: This type of abscess occurs in the bone structures in the teeth

  2. Gingival abscess: This type of abscess occurs in the gums

  3. Periapical abscess: Periapical abscess occurs in the soft areas of the tooth

Causes:
Entry of bacteria through holes in the teeth may result in breaking down of the soft tissue under the enamel. The infection may result in the hole to penetrate the pulp in the teeth. The bacteria thus infects the bone present in the teeth causing Periapical abscess. The bacteria that infects as a result of plaque accumulation may lead dental abscess. This may also lead to formation of gaps in the teeth leading to infection in the inner areas of the teeth.

Symptoms
The symptoms of dental abscess are:

  1. The teeth may become sensitive to hot and cold temperatures

  2. Pain during chewing food

  3. A persistent pain in the jaw that radiates to the ear

  4. You may experience a swelling in the face and the neck

  5. Tenderness in the lymph nodes in the neck

  6. You may experience symptoms of fever

  7. Presence of foul smelling fluid in your mouth
If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dentist.
