IUI- intra uterine insemination done for infertility. Wait for urine test to become positive on or after 34 days. B HcG test can be done in blood a week before cycle to reassure you about embryo implantation. You can get this test done, I am sure your Dr. must have suggested you same. Pain is not related to procedure and I would suggest you,not to take any painkiller for the sake of danger to developing fetus.

This is a side effect of unwanted 72. It makes your menstrual cycle irregular. It's effect takes 1-2 months to go away. Remember it is not a routine contraceptive but an emergency contraceptive and can cause lot of side effects. So use it carefully. Use condoms instead.

Hi, My wife is 35 weeks pregnant and doctor has recommended her Martifur 100 100 mg tablet for 7 days (2 times a day) for a UTI. The pus cells in her routine urine test is 10-12 and urine culture tests came negative. Now, we are concerned whether she should take this med or not? Is this medicine pregnancy safe, as some links on google tell yes and some no? So, I want to know the opinions from doctors.

Though Martifur is currently allowed in the pregnancy according to recent guidelines But its use is specially Restricted during the last few weeks of pregnancy, since it has risk of Hemolytic anaemia to the fetus. Since she is in her 35th week, I would advice to not continue wid it. Better be safe.

Chance of getting pregnancy is almost nil as it was done far away from the ovulation date. But in extreme situations sperms can live upto 7 days so it is good idea to take ipill asap. It can be taken till 5 days of sex.

Hello, Sanitary pads are still safe as you cannot forget them inside which is often seen with non regular users, and then can cause infection. So sanitary pads are better.

Hello, in early pregnancy ideally journeys should be avoided be it train or road for fear of bumps and jerks and constant shaking involved. It would be advised to avoid the journey if possible else you may follow outmost care to avoid any jerks or pushes during the travel which can cause pressure over the uterus. Regards.

I think you are confused, unwanted 72 will not abort a pregnancy. It is an emergency contraceptive and it can only prevent pregnancy and not abort it. So kindly visit a registered gynaecologist and take advise regarding abortion.

Yes you can have sex from 6th month till 8th month. But during the time of pregnancy have only when your wife desire a lot. There are more chances of infection during the time of pregnancy due to hormonal imbalances or any vitamin d and a deficiency. I advice you if you want to have sex, ensure you don't have any infection and she is not having any health issue. Try only 6th month and 7th month alone. Take care.

It cannot be used as a regular contraceptive method and is quite unhealthy if taken more than twice a month. 3. The pill is to be taken soon after unprotected sex. It should be taken preferably within 24 hours and before 72 hours or else the pill may turn useless.

What are Prebiotics and Probiotics?

B.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition), M.H.Sc (Food Science & Nutrition)
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Mumbai
What are Prebiotics and Probiotics?

Most of us have probably heard of probiotics and prebiotics in recent days, but do you happen to know what they are exactly and how they can be beneficial to your health? If you have some knowledge about nutrition, you will understand the prominence of prebiotics and probiotics, which aids in health improvement.

Prebiotics are non-digestible food components which are natural and acts as an excellent support for the natural growth of useful bacteria in the human body. They are termed as good bacteria promoters. Consumption of the prebiotic food will enhance calcium level in the body, and they are also responsible for gastrointestinal health improvement. There is no necessity to consume separate pills for prebiotic development; they are available in certain food items like onions, garlic, bananas, soybeans, whole-wheat foods, asparagus, artichokes and much more.

Probiotics are nothing but good bacteria which are naturally available in the body and are responsible for repopulation of intestinal bacteria. Probiotics are also responsible for management of bowel syndrome symptoms. Other than these, probiotics will help in the prevention of allergic symptoms, reduction of lactose intolerance etc. Probiotics are available in non-dairy food products like miso, cultured non-dairy yogurts, kimchi etc.

Advantages of Prebiotics and Probiotics

Prebiotics:

  • Reduces the symptoms of asthma.
  • Prevents eczema in children.
  • Controls the development of colorectal cancer.
  • Improves immune system
  • Normalizes the bowel function.

Probiotics:

  • Improves immune system.
  • Helps in the digestion process.
  • Helps in nutrient absorption.
  • Helps in detoxification.
  • Improves health.

Other than the above-listed benefits, prebiotics and probiotics offer multiple benefits. Probiotics present in the body will work round the clock balancing both good and bad bacteria within the GI tract and prevents numerous problems like the poor elimination of waste, poor digestion, stress, oral contraceptives, etc. Overall, both prebiotics and probiotics are highly essential for humans to improve their health.

There are many probiotic and prebiotic supplements available in the market, but it is advisable for consumption of probiotics and prebiotics in a natural way by adding probiotic and prebiotic enriched food items to your daily diet. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.
