I have an acute middle back pain. What could be the cause and what should I do to relieve me of this pain?

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Acute middle back pain with sudden onset could be due to small disc protrusion at the back but it can also be due to other reasons as well. If you have only a localized kind of pain with no other associated symptoms like radiating leg pain, numbness, paresthesias etc, and no systemic symptoms like fever, loss of appetite, loss of weight etc, my advice to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or even tab paracetamol which suits you - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied 3-4 times in a day - analgesic spray for local application like dynapar qps spray can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc let us observe you for a period of 2-3 weeks by which a lot of patients actually improve, if your pain still persists, then we will get some investigations done. I am 64 years. For the last around six months I am suffering from right side lower back pain. The pain travels from lower back to knee and sometimes upto foot. Please suggest a medicine.

Hello, if there's pain through the back of your leg then you might have sciatica which is pinching of nerves between the vertebrae. Exercise to strengthen your core muscles would help you along with some postural exercises.

Do avoid taking pain killers And do take physiotherapy treatment of IFT and vacuum Therapy treatment for pain relief for 12 days followed by strengthening exercise from physiotherapist Best wishes.

Hi I can understand your problem 1) avoid activities that make your symptoms worse 2) apply hot packs 3) start physiotherapy treatment as electrotherapy will reduce pain inflammation 4) exercise and mannual therapy will help in painfree movement. I am a 30 years old healthy male with no medical condition accept occasional acidity. For past few years I have issue of popping sound from my chest sternum. No pain only popping. Is this anything to worry about. From past few weeks my left shoulder (back part) aches when I wake up in the morning. Pain is severe, but subsides post I wake up. Sometimes similar pain occur in right bottom rib. Is this muscular pain or anything to worry about. I am a regular badminton player. My vitamin D Is 14. Please reply if any medication is needed.

Dear Lybrate user, You should rake half glass milk and half glass soda in breakfast with fruits boiled egg. Sand witch etc. Only. No junk food no oil o spice. Before lunch you can take salad first and normal food. Sam e thing is in the dinner. Do it for one week. Avoid constipation. Also take a ginger PC. With salt in your mouth and chew it for half an hour atleast. Within a week you will feel relax. If there is any other problem, call back with detail.

The most common form of morning stiffness and pain is due to muscle imbalances and poor conditioning of the muscles themselves. Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -find a mattress with back support. A good mattress should provide support for the natural curves and alignment of the spine. Medium-firm mattresses usually provide more back pain relief than firm mattresses. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. -a physiotherapist can tell you when to begin stretching and strengthening exercises and learn how to safely, easily, stretch and strengthen the weak and tight areas of your lower back and hips which cause pain while sleeping. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day.

Hello doctor one of my female friend age is 21. She used to do stretch exercise and skipping daily from several days. But she is facing leg pain whenever she used to do skipping. After skipping she used to leg pain and she can't able to walk for 10 minutes.

This might be because of calcium deficiency hence ask her to take diet rich in calcium like milk, it products, bananas, white of an egg etc. so that the leg pains will get decreased gradually.

Please note that too much of standing and sitting at a stretch will cause such problems. Also she needs massage and hot compresses on the affected area. Also take mag phos 6x - twice daily 4 tablets for next 7 days and get back to me for further treatment.

Consumption of counter pain relievers is advisable. A pain killer which reduces inflammation is highly recommendable. Some common ones are ibuprofen and aspirin.

Hello. We can't reverse the established pathology back, but we can control the process in the stage it is so that it wouldn't grow further. Apply Bakson’s Rheum Aid oil gently (2-3 times a day) and take orally Bakson’s Rheum-Aid syrup/ 1 tablespoon thrice daily. Also, increase your dietary intake of calcium which is present in green leafy vegetables, milk, milk products, sea food, white legumes, dried fig, black-eyed peas, almonds, oranges, seasame seeds. And vitamin D which is essential for absorption of calcium in our body and is synthesized naturally after getting exposed to sunlight, so early morning sunlight for 10-15min. 2-3 times a day is mandatory. Apart from this, do walk daily along with physiotherapy will also help you.

I am experiencing a sensation like something is crawling up my right thigh for the past week. It occurs when I am standing and looking ahead or when reclining in a chair or lying down. However the sensation disappears when I bend forward when sitting or standing. I have cervical spondylosis but mild condition.

This sensation is due to the compression of the nerves caused by your spondylosis. A remedy would be to start back/core strengthening exercises as suggested by a good physiotherapist, take liberal amounts of vit. D and calcium through milk and eggs, non veg food if possible. We would need an xray of both the cervical and lumbar spine +/- mri of the spine to confirm the condition and suggest an appropriate cure to your condition. Hope this helps.
