Human beings have a circadian rhythm of sleep. If it's altered happens like this. You must restrict his addiction to video games. Sometimes excessive video watching and sleep deprivation may result in fits.

Take a pinch of turmeric powder and black pepper powder to a glass of warm desi cow milk A2milk. Drink before going to bed. It helps to relieve congestion, reduces pain and swelling. Add few drops of lemon juice and a pinch of pepper powder to a teaspoon of honey. Give this mixture to your child at least twice a day. Honey has strong anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties, which reduce the size of enlarged adenoids. For more you can connect via Lybrate.

Have a look at our sample meal plan for a one-year-old vegetarian toddler. It will help you feed your child a healthy and balanced diet to ensure that he gets all the vital nutrients he needs to grow well When planning your child's menu, remember that cholesterol and other fats are very important for his or her normal growth and development, so they should not be restricted during this period. If you keep your child's caloric intake at about 1,000 calories a day, you shouldn't have to worry about overfeeding and putting him or her at risk of gaining too much weight. See the following sample menu ideas for a one-year-old. Note: These menu ideas are intended for a one-year-old child who weighs approximately 21 pounds (9.5 kg). 1 teaspoon = 1/3 tablespoon (5 mL) 1 tablespoon = ½ ounce (15 mL) 1 cup = 8 ounces (240 mL) 1 oz = 30 mL Breakfast •½ cup iron- fortified breakfast cereal or 1 cooked egg •¼ –½ cup whole milk (with cereal or without) Fruit can be added to cereal or on its own •½ banana, sliced •2–3 large sliced strawberries Snack •1 slice toast or whole wheat muffin with 1–2 tablespoons cream cheese or peanut butter, or yogurt with cut-up fruit •½ cup whole milk Lunch •½ sandwich sliced turkey or chicken, tuna, egg salad, or peanut butter •½ cup cooked green vegetables •½ cup whole milk Snack •1–2 ounces cubed or string cheese, or 2–3 tablespoons fruit or berries •1 cup whole milk Dinner •2–3 ounces cooked meat, ground or diced •½ cup cooked yellow or orange vegetables •½ cup pasta, rice, or potato •½ cup whole milk Additional Information on HealthyChildren. To soothe sore nipples, you can apply a warm compress on the affected area. The heat from the compress can ease discomfort and aid healing. Dip a washcloth in warm water. Wring it out and then place it on your breasts for a couple of minutes. Do this at least 10 minutes before breastfeeding. Repeat this remedy several times a day until the soreness is gone. A warm shower or heating pad can also help alleviate the discomforts of sore nipples. Please follow the above for 1 week and revert back

6 Common Sleep Disorders in Children

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Varanasi
6 Common Sleep Disorders in Children

Sleep is the most important aspect for a healthy beign, but for kids it is of utmost priority. Lack of sleep can often have a negative impact on the brain funtioning of kids along with accidents. Listed below are the major sleep disorders in children along with their causative factors:

1. Sleepwalking: It is not uncommon for children under the age of 10 to sleep walk. Despite being harmless on its own, the effects of sleep walking can be dangerous such as stepping outdoors or hurting themselves during sleep. If the child runs into objects while sleep walking, they might wake up and hence further worsen the situation.
2. Nightmares: They might be general or result from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nightmares, if frequent, can make falling asleep a tedious task. Nightmares in children are common and they usually begin to reduce in frequency by 9 years of age.
3. Obstructive sleep apnea: Snoring might be the result of improper respiration while sleeping and while it isn’t a cause of worry, regular snoring might lead to insufficient oxygen during sleep, thus making shut eye a challenge. It might be hereditary or the result of a deviated nasal septum or blocked nose. The snoring might hamper the quality of sleep.
4. Bedwetting: This is something most children experience, but usually grow out of by the time they turn six. It doesn’t need to be a cause of concern unless the frequency doesn’t reduce over time and more than two instances of bedwetting take place in a week.
5. Insomnia in children: It can be due to a host of factors and coping with changes to their normal lifestyle is one of the biggest triggers. Mental disorders such as anxiety and stress due to a variety of reasons (like the death of a loved one) may also be the cause of distress and lead to troubled or incomplete sleep.
6. Excessive daytime sleepiness: Excess naps throughout the day, always feeling lethargic or experiencing trouble waking up in the morning may be symptomatic of EDS. It isn’t uncommon in adults either wherein despite apparent proper sleep; energy levels seem to be low throughout the day. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor.

General Physician,
Can I give yogurt dahi to my 10 months old son? And where do I get wheat grass? What all food I can give to my son.
You can give Yoghurt and give all homemade foods. Wheatgrass is available in super markets and online Wheatgrass juice is a popular health drink. It is thought to benefit health only when fresh and taken on an empty stomach immediately after extraction. But there is no research to date that supports this.In foods and beverages, wheatgrass extracts are used as a flavoring component.

Hi I guess her sleep is interrupted during night only. You just check whether her nostrils are blocked or not, passing urine or stool and become wet or not, because these are the common cause of discomfort during sleep. Regarding pressure this is normal if she is on exclusive breast feeding. Regurgitation of feed 2-3 times a day is normal. Proper burping can reduce the freguency of regurgitation.

My son is aged 12 years but he is very slim and short in comparison to his age group friends. He also throw out a lot of saliva from mouth while sleeping. Suggest some homeopathic treatment.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Dribbling saliva frommouth is called drooling and Medically it is termed as sialorrhea (excessive saliva production) which is generally seen in infants while teething and sometimes in children with muscular problems and behavorial and neurological conditions like cerebral palsy. There are different glands that contribute to the production of saliva. And the amount of saliva your body produces while you’re asleep is quite less than while you’re awake. Normally You don’t drool when you’re awake because you swallow up the saliva. But when you’re sleeping you’re relaxed and so are your facial muscles. Hence, whatever saliva the glands produce gets accumulated in your mouth, which then leaks out of the mouth because you don’t swallow it. If you drool while sleeping, you must have noticed that saliva leaks out mostly when you sleep on your sides and rarely when you sleep on your back. That’s because, when you sleep on your back, saliva settles at the back of your throat and eventually drains down. There are certain problems that could be associated with drooling and these are----------- 1. Allergies: Allergic rhinitis and certain food allergies cause over-production of saliva resulting in drooling. 2. Acidity --- Acid reflux episodes cause the gastric acid to stimulate the esophagus, as a result the esophagosalivary reflex gets excited leading to excessive saliva production. 3. Sinus infection: Upper respiratory tract infections are usually associated with breathing and swallowing problems, which cause drooling due to accumulation of saliva. Also, when your nasal passage is blocked due to flu, you tend breathe with your mouth, which causes the excess saliva to flow out while sleeping. 4. Tonsillitis: Tonsillitis is the inflammation of glands called tonsils present at the back of your throat. Due to inflammation and swelling the passage becomes narrow, thereby obstructing the drainage of accumulated saliva down the throat. 5. Sleep terrors: Drooling is a known symptom seen in people suffering from sleep terrors. Sleep terrors can be manifested in adults as a result of psychopathological reason. They often occur when a person in under severe emotional stress or may be triggered by certain drugs like sedatives, alcohol or even sleep deprivation. Sometimes, drooling is also seen in people suffering from other sleep-related disorders like sleep walking (somnambulism) and somniloquy (sleep talking). 6. Drugs and chemicals: If you’re on certain medications or if you’re taking drugs then drooling may be an everyday thing for you. Some antidepressants and medications like morphine, pilocarpine (treats dry mouth) cause increased saliva production. Although treatment can be done according to any underlying problem but if it is due to excessive salivary glandss secretions the start taking this medicine for 15 day and consult thereafter. MERC sol 30 ( Dr Reckeweg) Drink 2 drop direct on tongue today night and after this forget about this medicine for 15 days. PL 30 ( Dr Reckeweg) Ask homoeopathic pharmacist to prepare this medicine 2 drahm in 30 number globules and start taking this medicine 4 tabss 3 time daily for 15 days.

Child Development - 9 Tips For Parents!

MBBS, M.D ( ( Gen.Medicine)
General Physician, Varanasi
Child Development - 9 Tips For Parents!

Behavior of a child should always be closely monitored during his/her early development. Sometimes signs of several personality disorders tend to show up early in life. Proper monitoring of the child's behavior helps to identify the signs and properly diagnose the condition if the child is suffering from any potential personality disorder

Here are a few facts you should keep in mind:

  1. You might often find it difficult to differentiate between the normal and abnormal behavior of your child. You might consult the pediatrician in this case to compare the child's general behavioral patterns with that of other children in the same age group.
  2. It is very important to understand your child's development process. It helps you to interpret his/her behavior and to identify signs of personality disorder.
  3. There are a few common behavior patterns, which tend to act as a guide to understanding the behavior of your child. Some of these patterns should be encouraged as they lead to proper behavioral development of your child while patterns of negative behavior should be discouraged.
  4. You should also consult a doctor if your child shows negative behavior persistently even after disciplining measures.
  5. Being polite, doing chores on a regular basis, following instructions should be encouraged and rewarded as it helps in the proper personality development of your child.
  6. Behavioral patterns like an inclination towards defensive, regressive and aggressive behavior should not be encouraged but can be tolerated in certain situations like illness or in times of stress.
  7. Behavioral patterns like an increased inclination to violence or an excessive competitive attitude towards their siblings should never be allowed.
  8. Prejudice or racism, stealing or inclination towards substance abuse, angry outbursts point towards problems in the child's mental, physical or social well-being. You are also advised to take your child to a psychological expert to find out whether he/she is suffering from any sort of behavioral disorder.
  9. Your behavior also plays a major role in development of your child and his/her behavioral patterns. It is often seen that if a child is subjected to excessive physical, mental or emotional abuse or is engaged in too many curricular and extracurricular activities, he/she is likely to develop several behavioral disorders over time.
