General Physician,
Gastritis, liver diseases and even cancer can occur from alcohol. Newborn baby is affected by growth retardation and in small amounts it releases tension but addiction is big issue. After alcohol the impairment of judgement can casue fall and other injuries.

Hie im a martial artist nd I have concentration power but when I talk about the books I can't concentrate if I do its hard time for me nd my exams were also near so please help how can I concentrate on my studies. When I open my books I feels like laziness but after that I goes to my bed I can't sleeps sometime whole night im not sure what's going on with me. How can I prepare for my exams.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. You must be able to understand concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. If the task is boring, it is natural that that person will sleep or feel sleepy. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly.

Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food. You may also include these noted foods that are good for your brain health: Brain-Friendly Foods MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. But the MIND approach “specifically includes foods and nutrients that medical literature and data show to be good for the brain, such as berries,” says Martha Clare Morris, ScD, director of nutrition and nutritional epidemiology at Rush University Medical Center. You eat things from these 10 food groups: •Green leafy vegetables (like spinach and salad greens): At least six servings a week •Other vegetables: At least one a day •Nuts: Five servings a week •Berries: Two or more servings a week •Beans: At least three servings a week •Whole grains: Three or more servings a day •Fish: Once a week •Poultry (like chicken or turkey): Two times a week •Olive oil: Use it as your main cooking oil. •Wine: One glass a day You avoid: •Red meat: Less than four servings a week •Butter and margarine: Less than a tablespoon daily •Cheese: Less than one serving a week •Pastries and sweets: Less than five servings a week •Fried or fast food: Less than one serving a week.

I hope that the new course that you have joined is of your choice and liking. First and foremost, do not hold any guilt of having dropped engg. It is not the end of the world. We all make wrong decisions at times and there is no harm in realising it changing course. Right from the beginning, start to set goals for yourself with respect to your studies. Be regular with your classes and engage yourself in discussions with friends regarding issues related to your course. Be confident, focus on yourself- avoid any kind of comparison with anyone. You are unique and so are your abilities. Find your strength area and work on it. Have faith in yourself, you'll be able to complete this new course, if you approach it with the right attitude. Start some physical exercise, yoga or meditation to improve your confidence and concentration.

I am going to start a new relation. What should I do to keep a healthy relation with him?

You see, we are into relations all throughout lives. Yet, for the least of reasons, when it comes to marriage we are ready to throw in the towel. I am glad that you are seeking to know how to keep the relationship healthy. Yes, communication is important. But there are two important considerations that matter a lot before you take the plunge: compatibility and adjustability. The former is almost a fixed aspect of both of you and it includes education, language, communication, community, caste, religion, socio-economic status, personality etc. The more the similarity, the better. The second consideration, that of adjustability, is more important and plays a very important role to determine whether your relationship will remain healthy or not. If compatibility is good, less adjustability is required. But as in most cases, there will be disparity, and this will tax adjustability considerably. If you are not able or willing to adjust, all hell will break lose. This is what you must examine while you are courting each other. Is he willing to make the adjustment around you, and are you able to and willing to adjust for the sake of the relationship. If you know there are stark difficulties, then better to close that prospect. Everything involves some aspect of culture eventually: he may be used to going out with his friends for drinks often. Now if you cannot adjust with this, then this will be a definite area of conflict. There are too many possibilities and this space will not suffice to give elaborate responses. Both of you will generally act positively before marriage but soon after the nuptials one or both of you will tend to control the other and there lies the danger. So it is very difficult to determine the true nature of an individual at the onset. But it is worth the try. So test everything to be fully satisfied, and this is best achieved by good and open communication. For your information, there are three areas that stand out as contributing to divorce: sex, in-laws, and finances. Discuss these areas and get to know the other’s mindset. Better to be safe than sorry. I have a very important suggestion to give you: please seek premarital counseling where many of these facts will be explained and taught to both of you, if you get a qualified counselor to do it.

Please follow the tips below to improve your memory and concentration. The key to becoming a successful student is learning how to study smarter, not harder. This becomes more and more true as you advance in your education. An hour or two of studying a day is usually sufficient to make it through high school with satisfactory grades, but when college arrives, there aren't enough hours in the day to get all your studying in if you don't know how to study smarter. While some students are able to breeze through school with minimal effort, this is the exception. The vast majority of successful students achieve their success by developing and applying effective study habits. The following are the top 10 study habits employed by highly successful students. So if you want to become a succesful student, don't get discouraged, don't give up, just work to develop each of the study habits below and you'll see your grades go up, your knowledge increase, and your ability to learn and assimilate information improve. 1. Don't attempt to cram all your studying into one session. Ever find yourself up late at night spending more energy trying to keep your eyelids open than you are studying? if so, it's time for a change. Successful students typically space their work out over shorter periods of time and rarely try to cram all of their studying into just one or two sessions. If you want to become a successful student then you need to learn to be consistent in your studies and to have regular, yet shorter, study periods. 2. Plan when you're going to study. Successful students schedule specific times throughout the week when they are going to study -- and then they stick with their schedule. Students who study inconsistently usually do not perform as well as students who have a set study schedule. Even if you're all caught up with your studies, creating a weekly routine, where you set aside a period of time a few days a week, to review your courses will ensure you develop habits that will enable you to succeed in your education long term. 3. Study at the same time. Not only is it important that you plan when you're going to study, it's important you create a consistent, daily study routine. When you study at the same time each day and each week, you're studying will become a regular part of your life. You'll be mentally and emotionally more prepared for each study session and each study session will become more productive. If you have to change your schedule from time to time due to unexpected events, that's okay, but get back on your routine as soon as the event has passed. 4. Each study time should have a specific goal. Simply studying without direction is not effective. You need to know exactly what you need to accomplish during each study session. Before you start studying, set a study session goal that supports your overall academic goal (i. E. Memorize 30 vocabulary words in order to ace the vocabulary section on an upcoming language test.) 5. Never procrasitinate your planned study session. It's very easy, and common, to put off your study session because of lack of interest in the subject, because you have other things you need to get done, or just because the assignment is hard. Successful students do not procrastinate studying. If you procrastinate your study session, your studying will become much less effective and you may not get everything accomplished that you need to. Procrastination also leads to rushing, and rushing is the number one cause of errors. 6. Start with the most difficult subject first. As your most diffult assignment or subject will require the most effort and mental energy, you should start with it first. Once you've completed the most difficult work, it will be much easier to complete the rest of your work. Believe it or not, starting with the most difficult subject will greatly improve the effectiveness of your study sessions, and your academic performance. 7. Always review your notes before starting an assigment. Obviously, before you can review your notes you must first have notes to review. Always make sure to take good notes in class. Before you start each study session, and before you start a particular assignment, review your notes thoroughly to make sure you know how to complete the assignment correctly. Reviewing your notes before each study session will help you remember important subject matter learned during the day, and make sure studying targeted and effective. 8. Make sure you're not distracted whiles you're studying. Everyone gets distracted by something. Maybe it's the tv. Or your family. Or maybe it's too quiet. Some people actually study better with a little background noise. When you're distracted while you're studying you (1) loose your train of thought and (2) you're unable to focus -- both of which will lead to very ineffective studying. Before you start studying find a place where you won't be disturbed or distracted. Some students like the library where it is quiet and books around you to help focus. 9. Use study groups effectively. Ever heard the phrase" two heads are better than one" well this can be especially true when it comes to studying. Working in groups enables you to (1) get help from others when you're struggling to understand a concept, (2) complete assignments more quickly, and (3) teach others whereby helping both the other students and yourselve to internalize the subject matter. However, study groups can become very ineffective if they're not structured and if groups members come unprepared. Effective students use study groups effectively. 10. Review your notes, schoolwork and other class materials over the weekend. Successful students review what they've learned during the week over the weekend. This way they're well prepared to continue learning new concepts that build upon previous coursework and knowledge acquired the previous week.

Dear user. I can understand. Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Smoking can affect your mouth, throat, lungs, heart, stomach and brain in many ways. Cancer is one among the potential diseases smoking can cause. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. Nicotine chewing gums too help as an alternative for cigarettes. But still you will need will power. You may consult a physician or deaddiction therapist or a rehabilitation facility for further advice. You can also opt for online deaddiction therapy. Take care.

Keep him busy. Let him join some old peoples club or some such place. Let him play with grand children if any. He may do some daily chore like bringing vegetables or milk. Leaving school going children to the school bus etc. Or picking them up when they return. In short he should be feeling important and constructive.

Hi Librate user when you get angry try to take a few moments to collect your thoughts before saying anything. Try to write your thoughts and opinion, and causes of your anger. Take deep breath, drink a glass of water. Talk to youself "RELAX" or "TAKE IT EASY" Repeat it to yourself. Anger is a normal emotion but it is important, you should deal with it in positive way. Uncontrolled anger are bad for your health. You should try to understand and remind yourself that anger can't solve any problem. Iam 25yrs old I daily smoke 8cigarettes. I want to reduce this smoking number how should I do?

It is near impossible to reduce and then stop your habit. When your system is used to a particular dosage, referred to as Dependence, then you either 'need' that amount to feel satiated. So ideally you should stop smoking immediately, promptly and completely. The habit can be very difficult to halt because of the many conditions attached to smoking. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine chewing gum or nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. You must take one day at a time and do not calculate the days or weeks or months etc., that particular is important and tomorrow is another day. Here’s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world – you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest. All the damage you incurred earlier because of the smoking can be reverted back to normal in quick time.

Dear lybrate-user, Excessive saliva is a common problem in parkinsons disease. There are medications available for the same. However, medications will reduce the saliva in the mouth making it dry and difficult to chew and swallow food which needs moist environment in the mouth. I suggest you to have a check on her posture, swallowing frequency. Ask her to swallow saliva as much as possible. Use slight inclined position while she is seated.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. Very nice. I am happy that you decided to quit smoking. Go ahead, do it. You can go to gym for sure. but for 4 weeks do not indulge in rigorous exercises and weight training. let your body, especially lungs, repair itself. Give it time. there will not be any side effects or withdrawal symptoms. Take care.

My father had epilepsy stroke 2 years back so he is consuming eptoin from 2 years now he is not going for regular consultancy but is consuming eptoin as a regular medicine till death is it right that for epilepsy patient eptoin is compulsory till his her death?

If your father did not have epilepsy for last 2 years consecutively and it CT brain, sodium,potassium, thyroid,calcium level is normal than your physician may start lowering the dose under his supervision. You can give folic acid supplementation. Thanks.

Hello I want to know easy method to die I want to suicide. Now there's no hope no reason to live left. I read that inhaling nitrogen doesn't cause pain. But I don't know how to get it. Please suggest any method to die painlessly. Please it's urgent. Please don't suggest me to meet any psychiatrist or anything. I want to quit I don't have a single ₹ left. Well, this is then very urgent that you seek to live. I suggest you meet a spiritual leader and talk to that person about your feelings of suicide. This is not a forum to provide assistance for those who want to end their lives. |We are here to help you live. And no one should honor your unhealthy intention to end your life: it is illegal too. This feeling is temporary and unless you to reach out to someone you will continue to cultivate this thought. So do not withdraw but meet someone. Life is just too precious and all problems can be resolved with time and support.

Symptoms of clinical depression-

The symptoms of depression can be complex and vary widely between people. But as a general rule, if you are depressed, you feel sad, hopeless and lose interest in things you used to enjoy.
The symptoms persist for weeks or months and are bad enough to interfere with your work, social life and family life.
There are many other symptoms of depression and you're unlikely to have every one listed below.

1) Psychological symptoms include:-
# continuous low mood or sadness
# feeling hopeless and helpless
# having low self-esteem
# feeling tearful
# feeling guilt-ridden
# feeling irritable and intolerant of others
# having no motivation or interest in things
# finding it difficult to make decisions
# not getting any enjoyment out of life
# feeling anxious or worried
# having suicidal thoughts or thoughts of harming yourself

2) Physical symptoms include:
# moving or speaking more slowly than usual
# change in appetite or weight (usually decreased, but sometimes increased)
# constipation
# unexplained aches and pains
# lack of energy or lack of interest in sex (loss of libido)
# changes to your menstrual cycle
# disturbed sleep (for example, finding it hard to fall asleep at night or waking up very early in the morning)

3) Social symptoms include:
# not doing well at work
# taking part in fewer social activities and avoiding contact with friends
# neglecting your hobbies and interests
# having difficulties in your home and family life

Depression can come on gradually, so it can be difficult to notice something is wrong. Many people continue to try to cope with their symptoms without realising they are ill. It can take a friend or family member to suggest something is wrong.

Doctors describe depression by how serious it is:

mild depression has some impact on your daily life
moderate depression has a significant impact on your daily life
severe depression makes it almost impossible to get through daily life – a few people with severe depression may have psychotic symptoms

Grief and depression-
It can be hard to distinguish between grief and depression. They share many of the same characteristics, but there are important differences between them.
Grief is an entirely natural response to a loss, while depression is an illness.

People who are grieving find their feelings of loss and sadness come and go, but they're still able to enjoy things and look forward to the future.
In contrast, people who are depressed have a constant feeling of sadness. They don't enjoy anything and find it hard to be positive about the future.

Other types of depression-
There are different types of depression, and some conditions where depression may be one of the symptoms. These include:

Postnatal depression-
Some women develop depression after having a baby. Postnatal depression is treated in similar ways to other forms of depression, with talking therapies and antidepressant medicines.

Bipolar disorder-
is also known as "manic depression". It's where there are spells of depression and excessively high mood (mania). The depression symptoms are similar to clinical depression, but the bouts of mania can include harmful behaviour such as gambling, going on spending sprees and having unsafe sex.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD)-
Also known as "winter depression", SAD is a type of depression that has a seasonal pattern usually related to winter
