If I take a contraceptive pill to avoid unwanted pregnancy is there any risk associated? Should I consult ant doctor?
If you want 100% safety, you should consult a gynecologist who will find out whether there are any contraindications for taking pills. You will be prescribed the pill appropriate for your age, body weight, and requirements. So it will give you a lasting confidence to take the pill in the proper manner, both increasing its efficacy and also maximising the safety you are looking for.

Unprotected sex have 100 % chance of pregnancy. But every time it's not sure to get pregnant. Because ovum release on 14th day of menstrual cycle. But sperm and ovum live in uterus for long time then it may fertilize after that time or not.

What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Diploma in Advance Endoscopy, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), MS, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Delhi
What is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome or PCOS is a condition in which a woman experiences fluctuation of hormone levels, estrogen, and progesterone which causes cysts in her ovaries, dysfunctional menstrual cycle, cardiac problem, fertility and changes in appearance. Hormones are chemical messengers that can trigger a number of issues in the body. Long term problems due to PCOS can be avoided with an early diagnosis and a proper treatment.

Causes

  • Genetics and hormonal imbalance have been identified as the main causes of PCOS although the exact reason has not been discovered.
  • Overproduction of androgen, a male hormone in a woman can cause small lumps in the ovaries, irregular development of eggs and abnormal insulin level.

Symptoms
The severity of the symptoms depends on the constitution of the person but the most common one is irregular periods. PCOS occurs when there is a decrease in sex hormones which can lead to the development of certain male features like:

  • Deeper voice
  • Growth of hair on face, toes, stomach, chest and back
  • Reduction in breast size
  • Loss and thinning of hair

There are other symptoms as well which can help one to determine the syndrome including:

  • Oily skin leading to acne
  • Irregular egg formation causing fertility problems and miscarriages
  • Depression, anxiety and mood swings
  • Hyperinsulinemia, that refers to the presence of too much insulin in the body which can cause obesity
  • Difficulty in breathing while sleeping

The severity of the symptoms varies but if you are experiencing any of these problems, it is advisable to seek a professional consultation. A healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, nutritious diets are some of the preventive measures you can take. There are hormone regulating medicines and treatments that attempt to curb the condition but there is no permanent cure.

Chronic Pain In Vaginal Area - Factors That Can Cause It!

Chronic Pain In Vaginal Area - Factors That Can Cause It!

Vulvodynia is a medical condition in which women suffer from chronic pain in the vaginal area without any cause. Even today, women don’t often go for proper diagnosis for vulvodynia because of the societal pressure due to which doctors and researchers are still not able to find out the exact cause of vulvodynia.

Types of vulvodynia
1. Generalized vulvodynia: This occurs when there is immense pain in different areas of the vagina. It can occur once in a while or the pain can be constant. Slight pressure or touch on the vagina can make it worse.
2. Vulvar Vestibulitis syndrome: Pain generally occurs in the entrance of the vagina. A burning sensation is felt when pressure is applied on the vagina or during sexual intercourse.

Possible causes of vulvodynia:
1. Irritation to the nerve or a nerve injury can increase the risk of vulvodynia.
2. An infection or a trauma in the vulvar cells can also give rise to abnormal responses which might cause vulvodynia.
3. The vulva can also respond poorly to inflammation due to genetic factors.
4. Yeast infection and hypersensitivity can also cause vulvodynia.
5. Muscle spasm

6. Irritation or allergies to chemical substances.
7. Hormonal changes like menstruation or menopause can also cause vulvodynia.
8. If you have a history of sexual abuse or rape, you are more likely to develop vulvodynia.
9. Using excessive antibiotic can lead to the weakening of the cells around the vagina.

Symptoms of vulvodynia:
1. Rawness, stinging or burning sensation in the vagina.
2. Soreness or acute aching sensation in and around the vagina.
3. Throbbing can also occur on the vagina if you have vulvodynia.
4. Itchiness in and around the vagina.
5. Pain can either occur once a while or all the time during vulvodynia.
6. Walking, exercising or having sex can also cause immense pain in the vagina.
7. The vagina can also ache while walking, sitting or exercising.
8. Discomfort can be felt on your entire vulva.

Vulvodynia can impact a woman’s life greatly. It can disable her ability to exercise or have sex. Vulvodynia can also make her withdraw from her social life or work. It is of utmost importance to book an appointment with a gynecologist as soon as possible if you have vulvodynia.

Doctor, I am also spotting brownish red few drops just once in a day also watery cm from past 3-5 days. Could this be implantation bleeding or impending periods? I was due on 2nd march so confused now if I could still be pregnant.

To avoid any investigation, ensure that you did not have sex during the past one and a half month. If not , it is very less likely that you are pregnant. Many times due to some stress or rigorous activities the menses may delay for a few days or may appear the same way as you have them in the form of spotting. I would suggest to wait for at least 3-4 more days, and then to conclude something.

Irregular period is can be due to physilogical and pathological reason. Physiologically it can be due to stress, prolong fasting, starvation, excessive exercise and pathologically due to thyroid dysfunction, anemia, PCOD, effect of some drug. Get yourself tested for the above mentioned. Consult a gynecologist for the same, as she will perform some test and traetment will be given accordingly.
