check once for pregnency test....Treatment of irregular periods depends on the cause and your desire to have children in the future. Irregular periods can be caused by many different things. Changes in your body's level of the hormones estrogen and progesterone can disrupt the normal pattern of your period. That's why young girls going through puberty and women approaching menopause commonly have irregular periods. Other common causes of irregular periods include: ? Having an intrauterine device (IUD) ? Changing birth control pills or using certain medications ? Excessive exercise ? Polycystic ovary disease (PCOS) ? Pregnancy or breastfeeding ? Severe scarring (adhesions) of the lining of the uterus, a condition known as Asherman syndrome ? Stress ? Overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism ? Thickening of or polyps on the uterine lining ? Uterine fibroids Turmeric Being a warming herb, turmeric is also considered helpful in regulating menstruation and balancing hormones. Its emmenagogue properties help stimulate menstrual flow. Moreover, its antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory properties relieve menstrual pain. ? Consume one-quarter teaspoon of turmeric with milk, honey or jaggery. Take it daily for several weeks or until you see improvement. ? You can also take turmeric in supplement form; consult your doctor for proper dosage.

When Is the Right Time to Have a Fruit? And Why You Should Avoid It After a Meal?

M.Sc - Dietitics / Nutrition, B.Sc Home Science (hons)

When Is the Right Time to Have a Fruit? And Why You Should Avoid It After a Meal?

Undoubtedly eating fruits contribute to good health and provides a range of other benefits for your body. Nevertheless, you must follow some simple guidelines so that you eat fruits the right way. Eating fruits as and when you like doesn't do much good. Therefore, it is essential to know when and how to consume fruits in order to fully benefit from it.

Right time to eat fruits:

  1. Eating fruits first thing in the morning is preferable as you gain all the nutrients your body requires, which keeps you nourished and energized. Eating fruits on an empty stomach promotes good health and helps you shed the extra kilos. Additionally, it also prevents digestive problems and keeps you in good shape as your body fully absorbs all the vitamins, good carbohydrates and fiber present in the fruits.
  2. Eating fruits between breakfast and lunch is also an option that can help you maintain a proper diet. If you choose to have your fruit helping after breakfast, it is essential to adjust the proportion and time of both the meals accordingly. A fruit helping after breakfast should keep you full for at least two hours, thereby ensuring proper digestion. Make sure you balance your meals accordingly and do not end up overeating.

Why fruits should be avoided after meals:

  1. Even though fruits have high nutrition value, it also contains calories. If you consume a bowl of fruits just after your meal, chances are that your body may get more calories than it requires. No matter how healthy fruits are, eating them after meals can cause significant weight gain. Also, it is essential to keep in mind to not make your diet fruit heavy as then your body is deprived of nutrition present in meats, vegetables, dairy products and whole grains.
  2. It is of utmost importance that you avoid eating fruits just before going to bed. Fruits contain a lot of sugar which can, in turn, increase your energy levels thereby, keeping you awake when you need to sleep instead.

Pay close attention to your food choice. ·        Eat less carbohydrate food sources like chapatti, rice, noodles, pasta, bread etc as they help in gaining weight and storing fat. ·        While having lunch or dinner eat vegetables and dal to fill your stomach rather eating lots of chapattis or rice. ·        Have a healthy breakfast like poha, idli, upma, plain dosa, oats, dalia or khichdi with vegetables. ·        Eat a balance diet including good quality proteins like: fish, lean chicken and eggs. If you are a vegetarian then include skimmed milk, low fat paneer, butter milk, soy bean or soy milk in your diet. ·        Avoid ghee, butter or vanaspati. Prepare your diet with vegetable oil like sunflower, safflower soybean or olive oil. ·        Eat plenty of salads. ·        Eat fresh fruits including apple, orange, pineapple, papaya, sweet lime, berries, guava, watermelon, mask melon etc. ·        Avoid eating outside junk and fried foods like pizza, pasta, roll, burgers, cakes, chocolates and cookies. ·        Have an early dinner. The earlier the better, giving your system more time to digest the food. ·        Avoid cold drinks/alcohol as they add empty calories to your diet. ·        Avoid fat enriched milk products like cheese, sweets, full fat cream etc. ·        Drink 3 liters of water in a day. ·        Try to have less sugar in food and beverages. ·        Try to drink 2 cups of green tea in a day as green tea helps in weight loss by aiding digestion. ·        Avoid red meat like mutton, beef, lamb or pork. ·        Eat sprouts or roasted chana, whenever you feel hungry.

Sex During Pregnancy - 5 Tips

Sex in pregnancy is generally safe if the couple keeps a few things in mind.

1. Sex in the first trimester or first 3 months is usually avoided, as it is an important time of pregnancy.

2. From 4th month onwards, sex is generally safe.

3. The frequency, position etc. depends upon the patient's comfort levels. There are no fixed rules.

4. In the last month, sex is thought to increase chances of spontaneously going into labor.

5. Physical intimacy must definitely be avoided in certain situations, bleeding or pain during pregnancy, an increased risk of premature labor pains, rupture of membranes and leaking, previous bad obstetric history etc. In the case of doubt, consult with your doctor.

You wait till your next cycle. If you don't get your periods by the end of this month please conduct a home pregnancy test on first urine sample of the day. Other wise if you are anxious you can go for serum beta hcg test as early as 26-26th june. This is a blood test done in labs. The report if more than 25-50 units indicate positive results. Lower than 5 units rules out pregnancy for sure.

I am 25 years old and how to reduce belly fat after c-section. please advice?

PGDD, RD
Dietitian/Nutritionist,
C section may cause a little loosening of belly skin but if you est well and stay activie there is no reason for belly fat to grow just cause of c section. Also you can't target one single body part. Overall loss and toning is needed. Eat small but frequent meals. Avoid long gaps in between meals. Avoid junk as far as possible. Exercise at least 4 times a week. Lastly be committed. Remember it's a lifestyle change and not a one time thing. It's a balanced intake that will last you longer. All the so called diets will only give you muscle and bone loss. The fats will remain as it is. So, try to first follow this seemingly simple tips. I am sure it will at least help you with initial fat losses.

I am 20 year old female. Last few days after my intercourse with my partner when I wake up in the morning its coming pale red color liquid in my private part. Is this a serious health problem. Some days even it's last for the whole day. Please suggest its normal or I need to consult any gynecologist.

PhD Human Genetics
Sexologist,

Yes, its a good idea to consult a gynecologist. The red tinge in the vaginal discharge could be due to an infection of the mouth of the uterus, or lacerations in the vagina due to intercourse etc. Examination will reveal the cause and enables the doctor to offer treatment.

My left breast lump is become larger during this period. Am i suspect the left breast lump cancer. I am afraid to a medical examine. Please give me a clarification.

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology
Oncologist,
Hi, it is normal for benign breast lumps to enlarge rapidly during pregnancy. They usually don't turn into cancer. They enlarge secondary to the hormonal changes durimg that time and may regress back later. But if you still have a large persistent lump, please do consult a surgeon in person as a clinical examination will reveal a lot more. And if needed you can get it removed. Most importantly, your doubt regardin cancer will be clarified. Hope his helps. Take care.
