I took tobacco and cigarette for 3 years. How long will it take to recover the damage done by this things? How long will it stay in my body?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Ask Free Question
It just depends on how long you smoked and how much damage you did to the body. So I think the thing to do is try to get yourself as healthy as possible after you quit smoking and then see where you are. Once individuals stop smoking, they will have a decrease in their heart rate and also in their bodies’ levels of carbon monoxide. Gradually over months and years, the risks for developing smoking-related diseases will decrease as well. You will start to repair the damage and by about 5 years after you quit, your body will have recovered more than 90% of the damage that is done, and it will feel, act, and be normal thereafter. Quit and stay quit. It's never too late.

I am 40 years male and blood comes out from my upper teeth (not lower jaw teeth) when I brush. What do you think? Is it because of structure of my teeth and are they can be fixed using braces at this age?

Mostly it is due to deposits on teeth. A simple teeth cleaning should reduce your bleeding substantially from very next day. I don't think it will be because of your structure. But if you still desire to correct your tooth structure then braces are possible at your age.

We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning, root canal treatment & capping. Until then apply clove oil on the decayed tooth. Rinse frequently with mouth wash.

It is better to get your infected wisdom teeth extracted to prevent further complications. (you can ask your dentist to try a root canal, if you really do not want to extract it)

The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

Many with braces face prob of dental ulcers. To avoid ulcers request your dentist fr some clear wax which has to b stuck on the brackets. This prevents rubbing of sharp edges of brackets against your oral skin. Apply dentogel oral ointment twice to thrive daily on ulcers. Gargle using betadine mouth wash twice daily. Avoid spicy food, tea, coffee, aereated drinks. Rinse your mouth well after each meal n maintain hygiene. Ulcers generally take arround 10-14 days to heal.

You need to visit the dentist and get a deep scaling and polishing done. Brush twice a day. Maintain proper brushing technique. Rinse after every meal. Floss regularly. You can also go for bleaching or whitening for more brighter teeth.

I have problem in my teeth. Dr. say RCT. What is RCT and it is good for my teeth.
Rct is" root canal treatment. It is a way to preserve your teeth rather than getting it extracted. There are canals present in every tooth root. These canals carry nerves and blood vessels to the tooth to provide it nutrition. In a carious tooth i. E decayed tooth these canals serve as a channel for the spread of bacterial infection. In rct the nerves and vessels are removed with the help of a dental file, the canal is cleaned, irrigated and disinfected and filled with a biocompatible tooth material.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Your teeth is getting yellow because of lack of access of tooth brush due to the braces on your teeth, during brushing. You need to get scaling done, followed by correct brushing technique. Since you are wearing braces you need to brush your teeth after every meal and rinse your mouth thoroughly after every food intake. You need to use colgate phos-flur mouthwash to prevent the discoloration on your teeth.
