I am 63 years old, suffering from pyorrhea on middle stage, advised to take teeth cleaned by dentist, should i?

MDS, BDS
Dentist, Delhi
You should most definitely get the cleaning done and also follow it up on a more regular basis in the future to ensure the problem doesn' t progress. All you need to ensure that the procedure is done with proper ultrasonic powered instruments and in the right manner.

There are many ways to whiten your teeth. At first you can try home remedies then over the counter products and then if you are not satisfied with that then professional bleaching in dental office is a definitive solution for your problem. Before everything you should borne in mind that you should brush your teeth two times daily. Always use soft bristled brush and be gentle on your teeth and gums while brushing. Learn proper brushing technique. This will help you to clean your teeth efficiently and effectively. As a home remedy you can apply baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) paste by adding some water to it. Apply this paste on teeth and brush your teeth. Do it once or twice a week. You can also use snowdent whitening toothpaste for 2- 3 months to see the results. If it doesn't help you then you can discuss professional bleaching of teeth with your dentist.

Although excessive saliva is not too common, there are a number of conditions that can cause it - some harmless, others more serious. It is possible that your saliva problems are just a result of the way you speak. Some people speak faster or slower than others, just as some people blink more often, breathe faster, or have a more rapid heartbeat. This may just be what's normal for you. Since it is negatively affecting your life, I suggest your problem can be ignored. However there are medical conditions that causes excessive salivation injection glycopyrrolate reduces secretions in the mouth, throat, airway, and stomach.

Tips for Choosing a Toothbrush

MDS
Dentist, Mumbai
Tips for Choosing a Toothbrush
Size: the best toothbrush head for you should allow you easy access to all surfaces of your teeth. For most adults, a toothbrush head a half-inch wide and one-inch tall will be the easiest to use and the most effective.

Bristle variety. You will be able to select a toothbrush with soft, medium, or hard nylon bristles. For the vast majority of people, a soft-bristled toothbrush will be the most comfortable and safest choice. Depending on how vigorously you brush your teeth and the strength of your teeth, medium- and hard-bristled brushes could actually damage the gums, root surface, and protective tooth enamel.

Hello lybrate-user, your both problems are not related to each other. Your tooth is having sensitivity problem. For that you can use sensitivity tooth paste like sensodyne, sensoform or shy-nm. Your gums are infected that why they are bleeding. For that you have to go for proffesional cleaning. After cleaning also you have to maintain your oral hygiene at home.

If you leave the edentulous space as it is there is a chance of you getting a pathological migration which is drifting of the adjacent teeth in the area of lost tooth. It is better to replace with either an implant or a fixed prosthesis.

Hello Sir, Deeply saddened by the news. My condolences to the family. Oral Cancer can happen to any one at all and without a reason. But there are certian factors which can increase the risk to getting one, like tobacco usage both smoke and smokeless form, poor general health, poor diet etc etc. Or in rare cases it could be genetic too. We as doctors take it upon ourselves to reach out to people and educate and create awareness regarding Oral Cancer. We propogate timely and regular oral health check ups to catch the problem in an ealy stage and then adequately treat it or maybe even some times identify risk factors and help in preventing it altogether. So my advice, as has always been, to get regular oral Health check up done and consider the recommendations of the dentist. After all as they say "Prevention is beter than Cure" Take care! Cheers!

Kindly get an x-ray done of the tooth having pain. If it is a wisdom tooth may be she will have to get it extracted. Pain killer will give her only temporary relief. She can take tab ketorol dt 2 tablets dissolved in water. She can also do warm saline gargles as this will also relieve her. Kindly visit your dentist and get the required treatment done.
