I am a 27 years old male, I have migraine for the past 7 years. What should I do?

MBBS, MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Ghaziabad
Welcome to lybrate. We are here to help you. Such pattern of headache is seen in migraine. Migraine headaches are usually unilateral, associated with throbbing, vomiting sensations, photophobia and phonophobia. They aggravate on stress. They also aggravate on watching tv, loud noises, sleep deprivation. A clinical examination specially neurological examination, fundus examination are must to rule out any other neurological problem which might also require neuroimaging. I would also advise you to get your eyes tested. You should see your doctor. He will classify the headache and if it is migranous, treatment would be with the drugs like flunarizine, propanolol, amitryptilline. The drugs are decided on the basis of severity, frequency and duration of headache. I hope it helps. Stay healthy.

You have not mentioned which medicines you have taken. You should take preventive medicines to stop your migraine attacks on exposure to trigger , in your case sun, travel etc. In many patients one medicine may not work well , in such cases different medicines have to be used. Follow these lifestyle changes to avoid migraine headache 1. Maintain regular sleep wake cycle, even on holiday's. 2. Don't skip meals. Take regular healthy diet with adequate fluids 3. Do not consume excess caffeine / carbohydrates / alcohol or smoke. 4. Exercise daily ( aerobics and cardiovascular) 5. Identify your headache trigger and try to avoid it.In your case use an umbrella when in sunlight, use sunglasses and hats etc. 6. Do pranayam daily. 7. Acupuncture treatment has shown some benefits in migraine. You can consult a pain specialist for therapies like dry needling or botulinum injections for your problem. Consult again for further queries.

Dear Lybrate user, Migraine is make your life miserable it can cause you symptoms but it is not fatal. Here is the some information for you hope it would be helpful. Causes of headaches may include fatigue, sleep deprivation, stress, the effects of medications, the effects of recreational drugs, viral infections, common colds, head injury, rapid ingestion of a very cold food or beverages, and dental or sinus issues. This can trigger your headache: foods : spices, wine , chocolate, citrus • food additives • sleep : both too much and too little • stress : mainly offset Home remedies: • Stay Hydrated • Mix equal parts of ginger juice and lemon juice. Consume it once or twice a day. • Menthol and menthone are the primary components of mint which are very effective in alleviating headaches. • Peppermint contains menthol that helps open up clogged blood vessels that cause headaches. It also has calming and soothing effects. • Basil works as a muscle relaxant, making it a helpful treatment for mild headaches caused by tense muscles. Plus, it has calming and analgesic effects. • Simply smelling the soothing scent of lavender essential oil can be of great help in relieving tension headaches. Research suggests that it can also help improve migraine symptoms. • The cold from ice helps reduce inflammation that contributes to headaches. Plus, it has a numbing effect on the pain. • Simply massage your forehead and temples with a few drops of rosemary oil mixed in a tablespoon of carrier oil. • Crush a few cloves gently and put them in a sachet or a clean handkerchief. Inhale the smell of the crushed cloves whenever you have a headache until you get some relief from the pain. • Simply eat an apple with some salt. • Accupuncture: Press and massage the fleshy area between the thumb and index finger, at the highest spot of the muscle when both the thumb and finger are brought close together. Do this for one or two minutes and then repeat on the other hand. Exercise Regular exercise can reduce the frequency and intensity of headaches and migraines. When one exercises, the body releases endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. Exercise reduces stress and helps individuals to sleep at night. Stress and inadequate sleep are two migraine triggers. Homeopathic treatment In order to prescribe a homeopathic remedy, it is crucial to discover what is unique about the way an individual experiences a headache. For example, all migraine sufferers may experience nausea, but a particular individual may feel thirsty for cold drinks with the headache. Thirst for cold drinks is the characteristic symptom that sets one migraine sufferer apart from others. There are hundreds of possible remedies for the treatment of headaches, so the key is finding which homeopathic remedy most closely matches your symptoms. Do not allow Headache to make your life miserable. Switch over to the homeopathic treatments and enjoy a stress free life. Wish to know more about the effective homeopathic treatment? MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)

I have a relative female who has thyroid problem but is not being diagnosed properly. She has tsh level of 100 and no...
A level TSH 100 shows a highly uncontrolled hypothyroidism. The direct evidence for controlled hypothyroidism is a normal report of tsh which shows that it is within range. If the tsh is higher than the upper range then the dose will be increased and if the tsh is lower than the lower range then the dose will decreased. If the tsh is within range then you have controlled hypothyroid state and the dose will be carried on as such. Currently if she is on any medicine then the dose needs to be escalated and if she is not on any medicine then she needs to be started ASAP.

On 4th April 2015 I got an Epilepsy attack in morning around 5 A.M. My wife told me that whole body got folded and after Epilepsy I was feeling vomiting issues. After 5 days I realized that some sound is coming from my mind or Ear I do not know but it is coming continuously. Till then I have contacted many Neuro /ENT .Some one says its Tinnitus and I have started medicine. Epilepsy : Encorate Chrono 500 MG two times (Regularly). For Tinnitus : Bilovas and rejunex cd. Some of my friends have told that you are not taking correct medicine for Epilepsy so you are hearing this sound as an side effect. I am not sure because all 3 Neuro doctors have prescribed me same medicine for Epilepsy. Kindly suggest me that if this can be the case or not. I am really confused and getting depressed / anxiety issues now.

MBBS, MD Psychiatry, DNB Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Nagpur
Epilepsy is a complex disorder of the brain which has various psychiatric components in it. Anxiety and depression are common. Encorate chrono is no doubt a very good medication for epilepsy. But i hope you have investigated yourself in detail for the first attack of epilepsy at your age. Epilepsy due to some reversible and treatable cause should always be sought for complete cure. Sounds from your mind/ ear need evaluation because sounds in tinnitus are peculiar and can hardly be confused with anything else.

Why it was said that in epilepsy medication side effect is tolerable then disease itself? Bcoz there are so many side effects of medicine despite of that it is recommended?

MBBS
General Physician, Chandigarh
Because the effects of epilepsy are more serious than the side effects of its medicines that's why taking medication is a better acceptable solution
