Strectch marks occur due to sudden stretching or sagging of the skin. Stretch marks also depends on the elasticity of a person’s skin and the skin elasticity depends on the vitamins like vitamin E, omega 3 & 6. Strech marks take a long time to fade, so patience is the key to deal with stretch marks. To lighten the appearance of stretch marks – 1.Scrub the area lightly once a day. You can use some natural ingredients like gramflour, turmeric mixed with some milk to scrub the area. 2.Apply Vitamin E oil or warm olive oil on the area. 3.Apply Aloe Vera gel once a day on the area 4.Cocoa butter mixed with wheat germ oil is also very good at maintaining the skin health and reduce appearance of the skin. 5.You can also apply creams like Elastoderm stretch mark cream to reduce the appearance of stretch marks. Apply this cream daily to see results in few months. 6.Consume diet that is rich in vitamin E, omega 3 and 6 and other skin friendly vitamins like vitamin E and A. 7.Keep yourself hydrated. Drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water to keep your skin soft and supple.

I have undergone chemical peeling for acne by using gluconic acid but it started to form some black patches around my treated areas my doctor says my skin is too sensitive . What could I do now ? Will it disappear from my face ? I am using DESONIDE LOTION on the affected areas?and after how many days can I under go microdermabasion ?

Fellowship in dermatosurgery, MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Mumbai
Your skin does appear sensitive. It usually takes 2-3 months for the pigmentation to disappear. Continue using desonide lotion and also use a sunscreen with SPF of above 25 regularly. Go for dermabrasion only after the pigmentation has subsided. Take care as sensitive skin can lead to unwanted reactions after procedures.

In summer the problem of pimples on my face is increase and skin become oily. Can you please help me?
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. Neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you wherever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

Hi. Best would be to cover the exposed areas as much as possible by wearing broad brimmed hats, shades, covering your face with a scarf and wearing long sleeved shirts and trousers. You can use any sunscreen with spf 40 to 50, like Lashield or restreta Uv cut lotion. Hope this helps.

My husband has vitiligo since childhood is there any permanent solution to get rid of it. We have tried many homeopathic medicines which dint work for him.

Dear lybrate user, the color of our skin is due the formation of a color pigment called melanin. The synthesis of melanin is dependant on the body temperature. However, if the melanin synthesis is decreased or stopped due to any abnormal reason then the skin of that area becomes hypo-pigmented & looks colorless. Follow the medications as directed:- 1) take 4 tablets of homoeopathic arsenicum sulph flavum 6x tablets along with a cup of lukewarm water, thrice daily. 2) apply homoeopathic mother tincture ammi visnaga q on the colorless part of your skin & keep that area sunlight for 30 minutes daily. Continue the aforesaid medication for at least 1 month to observe visible results. Kindly note that this medication may not be sufficient enough to take care of your problem. These medicines are based on the symptoms of your diseased condition & these medicines need to be complemented by further deep-acting remedies in order to permanently eliminate the underlying cause of the disease. So I would suggest you to consult me privately via lybrate as it is very necessary to diagnose the proper underlying cause of your problem if you are wishing for a permanent relief from your problems. A permanent annihilation of the underlying cause of the disease will not only provide you relief from your troubles but it will also cease any chance of further relapse of that particular disease condition. However, before starting any medication kindly check whether you are having any loss of sensation on that colorless part of skin. If you experience slight loss of sensation on that colorless part of skin then you should contact your local dermatologist immediately.
