Plaque on your teeth and at the gumline that is not removed by brushing and flossing can infect the gums and lead to the symptoms of gingivitis. When gingivitis occurs, your gums may become swollen, tender and sometimes bleed during brushing. This early stage of the disease responds well to good brushing and flossing habits and regular dental checkups. Switching from a soft-bristled toothbrush to a firm brush may also result in gums that bleed. Try returning to a soft or medium-bristled brush and talk to your dentist about what toothbrush is right for you at your next appointment.

Home Remedies for Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

Sexologist, Narnaul
Home Remedies for Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)
Almost 75% of women experience at least one symptom of premenstrual syndrome (pms) every month. It is most common between the late 20s and mid-40s.

The exact cause is not clear, but it is associated with changes in hormone levels during the week before your period. Factors like poor diet, stress, high body mass index, environmental toxins and hereditary factors also contribute to this problem.

Pms is associated with a wide variety of symptoms, such as bloating, water retention, headaches, cramps, mood swings, irritability, food cravings, upset stomach, constipation, acne, breast tenderness and fatigue.

Although there is no real cure for pms, you can follow some natural and easy home remedies and practice a few healthy habits to reduce this problem. If your symptoms are more severe and disrupt your daily activities, consult your doctor. A severe form of pms is called premenstrual dysphoric disorder (pmdd).

Angina & Heart Attack

MBBS, MS (Gen. Surgery), M.Ch - Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery, DNB (CTS)
Cardiologist, Noida

Here are causes, symptoms, treatment of angina and Heart attack

Mai Dr Pramod Kumar Sharma, Max Smart Saket City hospital me Senior Cardiac surgeon ki pad par hu. Merese bahut saare patient aate hai aur baar baar yahi poochte hai ki doctor saab ye angina pain kya hota hai? Heart attack hota kyun hai? Unka jawaab dene ke liye, unko ye samjhata hoon ki angina jo hota hai ki jab dil ke andar jab khoon ki supply kam ho jati hai aur, dil jo hai it’s like a pump. Pump ke andar aapko chalane ke liye energy chahiye, energy aati hai usko apni supply mine se. Jab vo apni supply dheere dheere khoon ke naliya sikudne ki wajah se kam ho jaati hai toh patient ko angina shuru ho jaata hai. Aur agar suddenly wo nali band ho jati hai to patient ko heart attack ho jata hai.

Ab sawal ye uthta hai ki ye hota kyun hai? Angina ya heart attack dono ek hi beemari ke do roop hai. Dono ke kaaran ek hi hai. Pehla kaaran jo hota hai wo hota ki jisko hum bolte hai non-modifiable factor. Non-modifiable factor hai isko hum bolte hai ki patient ko vanshanugak problem hai. Matlab uske pitaji ki taraf ya mataji ki taraf kisi ko bhi family me agar ye problem rahi hai heart attack ki, angina ki toh usko jo aage santaan aati hai unko hone ke kafi kafi chances rehe hai. Dusra hota hai modifiable factor. Modifiable factor me bahut saare factor hai jaise ki patient agar diabetes hai usko control nahi kar rahe hai properly, patient ko blood pressure hai usko properly control nahi kar hai, patient ko cholesterol bahut jaada rehta hai, hyperlipidaemia jisko bolte hai usko properly control nahi kar rahe hai ye jo factor hote hai iske alava jin do cheezo pe mai bahut jyada mai stress dena chahunga aur samjhana chahunga jo ki bahut aasani se aap bacha bhi sakte ho aur bahut dangerous hai.

Ek sabse badi problem hai smoking ki, smoking ek itni katarnaak cheez hai jo ki aam taur par logbagh samajhte hai ki smoking se cancer hi hota hai. Smoking se cancer to hota hi ye har aadmi jante hai, par har aadmi ye nahi jante hai ki smoking se khoon ki naliya sukad jati hai, khoon gaadha ho jata hai aur khoon ka bahaav kam ho jata hai. Uski wajah se patient ko jo stroke bhi ho sakta hai, jisko hum bolte hai brain attack ya heart attack bhi ho sakta hai. Jisko hum normal bahasha me hum bolte hi hai har log jante hi heart attack kya hota hai. To ye do cheeze hai agar aap smoking karte hai to aap ko bahut jayada chances hai ki heart attack ya brain attack hone ke chances bad jate hai.

Dusra mai bolunga ki humara jo life style hai, life style modification ka bahut bada role hai, heart attack ya angina ko prevention ke liye. To life style hum log ka bahut change hogaya hai. Aaj kal logbagh raat der tak jagte rete hai. Proper need nahi le paate hai, proper relaxation nahi ho paata hai, mind ka relaxation nahi hota, tension bada rehta hai. Yeh sab cheeze aaj kal itni jyada ho gayi hai ki jiski wajah se aap dekh rahe hai ki din pratidin heart attack aur angina ki problems badti jaa rahi hai.

Agar aap ko is baare me koi consultation karna hai to lybrate is a very good forum. You can interaction with the lybrate people, you can have my advice on internet by posting your questions.

How PCOS Triggers Infertility In Women

Certification in IVF & Infertility, Diplomate Gynae Laparoscopy, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Ghaziabad
How PCOS Triggers Infertility In Women

PCOS is a disorder characterized by enlarged ovaries and the formation of tiny cysts on the outer sides of the ovaries. Polycystic Ovary is a hormonal condition that stimulates surplus production of androgen in women. Androgen being a “male hormone,” causes development of muscle mass and hair in men, and it has similar effects on women as well when present in high amount. They trigger acne and excessive growth of body hair in women accompanied by irregular or lack of ovulation in the form of absent or erratic menstrual cycle. Hence, owing to troubles in ovulation (discharge of ovules from the ovaries), one may experience difficulties in getting pregnant.

Many women suffering from PCOS are unaffected by the influence of the hormone ‘insulin’, which indicates, that it requires a larger amount of insulin to sustain a normal blood sugar level. High levels of insulin as a result of insulin resistance, in turn drastically boosts androgen production.

Symptoms of PCOS include:

  1. Irregular Menstrual Cycle. Women with PCOS may miss periods or have fewer periods (fewer than eight in a year). Or, their periods may come every 21 days or more often. Some women with PCOS stop having menstrual periods.

  2. Excessive hair. Excessive hair on the face, chin, or parts of the body where men usually have hair. This is called "hirsutism." Hirsutism affects up to 70% of women with PCOS.3

  3. Acne. Acne on the face, chest, and upper back

  4. Hair Loss. Thinning hair or hair loss on the scalp; male-pattern baldness

  5. Weight Gain. Weight gain or difficulty losing weight

  6. Skin Darkening. Darkening of skin, particularly along neck creases, in the groin, and underneath breasts

  7. Skin tags. Skin tags, which are small excess flaps of skin in the armpits or neck area

Treatment for PCOS:

There is apparently no procedure to cure PCOS and improve fertility but the treatment is tailored as per the symptoms of the condition:

  1. A lack of ovulation and menstrual cycles hinders the secretion of progesterone (a hormone preparing the uterus for pregnancy), thus hampering conception. In this case, the treatment is directed at maintaining a regular ovulation and menstrual cycle which can be fixed by consuming birth control pills. These pills comprise of both progestin and estrogen which aid to bring down androgen production.

  2. PCOS along with insulin resistance warrants the use of certain medications such as metformin which are prescribed to enhance insulin sensitivity. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

I am 55 year old female. I am suffering from throat pain for two months. My voice reduces. What should I do?
Hello for throat pain you should do warm water gargling 3-4 times a day, avoid oily and curds. If there has been a voice change you likely might have had infection of your voice box we call it laryngitis. You have to give voice rest and do steam inhalation. If still persists need medications

Lack Of Libido In Females - 4 Treatment Methods

MBBS, A.C.S.
Sexologist, Indore
Lack Of Libido In Females - 4 Treatment Methods

According to contemporary medical studies, loss of sexual desire is more common in women than in men. As many as 3 in 10 women have reduced or limited sexual interest in any kind of sexual activity. While the medical term for this problem is Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD), it is generally understood as a loss of libido.
There are multiple factors that contribute to this problem including psychiatric or physical disorders, relationship issues, hormonal disorders etc. Let us look at the causes of this disorder at length:
1. Medical Disorders:

a) There are conditions such as endometriosis, fibroids and thyroid disorders that may have a negative impact on the sexual drive of a woman.
b) Certain medicines such as antidepressants, oral contraceptives, and medicines that lower blood pressure may also negatively impact the sexual drive in women.
2. Hormonal Disorders:
a) Dryness of the vagina and pain during sexual intercourse may affect sexual drive both mentally and physically.
b) After menopause, drop in the count of testosterone hormone also affects sexual drive which can result in loss of libido.
c) With advancing age, the level of androgens decrease, and hence results in a lack of sexual desire.
3. Lifestyle Disorders:
a) In some of the cases, lack of emotional support in a relationship plays a significant role in the loss of libido. Post baby 'coolness' may also act as a driving force for loss in libido.
b) In today's era, changing lifestyle is drastically affecting our lives. Following an unhealthy lifestyle may result in increased weight that may affect self-image, and indirectly may also affect the sexual desire.
c) Stress and job, family pressure and exhaustion may also influence sexual desire of a woman.
4. Psychological factors:
a) Increasing cases of depression, anxiety, frustration, stress is also an important cause of loss of libido in the contemporary society.
b) After childbirth, new moms tend to suffer from lack of sleep, insufficient lubrication of the vagina and exhaustion, which may affect her sexual desire.
The first and foremost step towards dealing with it is to make your partner understand your problem. Then, it is important to consult a doctor to find out the underlying cause, thereafter, treatment of the cause can normalize the condition. Since there are multiple causes of the problem, there are different ways by which the loss of libido can be easily managed and treated. Some of them are discussed below:
1. Treatment of Hormonal Disorders: The doctors will suitably treat problems like thyroids or recommend surgical treatment for fibroids to manage HSSD.
2. Change in Medications: Since some of the medications are responsible for the lack of libido, the doctors will replace the medications to reverse this lack.
3. Addressing the psychological factors: Your doctor will either arrange for suitable psychiatric sessions or ask your partner to coordinate mutually.
4. Sex Therapy/Relationship Counseling or Testosterone Therapy: While sex therapy or relationship counseling brings back the interest by effectively counseling the individual, Testosterone therapy involves off-label usage of testosterone hormone since it is not recommended by FDA.
Proper treatment and consulting a medical expert can reverse this disorder efficiently. So, talk about the problem more openly to seek proper guidance and cure. You can also submit your queries or seek for our advice in detail by writing to us.

Hello Lybrate user- Ayurvedic concept of pcod (poly cystic ovarian disease) is somewhat different than modern concept, it generally occurs due to irregular food and daily habits done specially at the time of menstrual bleeding period. Pcod effect the ovulation process thus makes it difficult for the female to conceive and get pregnant. Some general tips to avoid pcod are- a) Avoid spicy food fast food during the bleeding and take fresh Indian food. B) Use wet sponging instead of taking bath on those days. C) Avoid running, skipping and other exercises on those days. D) Use Dashmoolarishtha 2 tsp twice daily with water ten days before menses.
