What do to protect myself from dust allergy if live in metro city, which cause excessive sneezing and had ace.

MS - ENT,MBBS
ENT Specialist, Kolkata
Dust allergy is partly genetic and partly environmental. Thus it never goes away. With better, less dusty environment  the extent if the problem gets reduced. Medicines help to downregulate the immune response of your body to these environmental allergens. Long term lifestyle  changes with gradually tapering medication  helps to tackle chronic sinus problems.  Start taking Steam inhalation twice a day. *For chronic allergic rhinosinusitis you will need to take a long term course of antibiotics  together  with Nasal sprays. *You will need to avoid dusty environment  and dust mites, animal dander etc. Regular cleaning of AC air filters. Wearing mask while driving 2 wheelers/working in dusty  areas Medical  management  is done for 3 months and then patients  condition is reviewed.  Intermittent treatment is not beneficial  in the long run. Around 30 %of people with allergic rhinitis  will develop Asthma if not treated. But majority of patients with asthma are allergic to dust. Active treatment  of nasal allergy reduces Asthma attacks and medicine requirements. This improve  quality of life.

My father was bitten by a stray dog on March 29. He was immediately rushed to a doctor and within two hours administered a toxide and the first rabipur. He has had four rabipur administered so far. Last week, the said dog died. Shall we continue with the existing treatment or change course? Please advice.

PGD Maternal Child Health, MBBS
General Physician, Akola
As the dog is dead, but after about 1 month of biting your father, meaning it could not have been rabied at the time of bite in all probability, because mostly a rabied dog never survives beyond 10 days of active rabies in the body. As 4 doses of anti rabies vaccine are already administered I do not think there is any risk of the disease. Still for the sake of safety the 28 day and 90 day scheduled doses should be taken.

My wife is having ashtama. If she work hard and run long she will get breathing problem. She is taking inhaler to get relax. Is there ant medicine which can permanently cure that disease or any other home remedies can do?

General Physician (AM)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Chandigarh
An attack may be brought on by contact with substances to which the person is sensitive and emotional or dietary factors should not be overlooked. A sudden change of temperature can bring on an attack. Some alleviation of the symptoms may be obtained with the use of the appropriate tissue salts. Consult privately so as to question you to ascertain your personality and ailment. In the mean time try cuprum ars, kali phos 12x
