I am 27 years male. I had drank 2-3 peg of Vodka everyday from thi last 3 days. Now feeling totally body weakness. Still feeling like drankman. Not taken drink from last 24 hours. Please take care of your health and avoid any kind of alcohol if possible. Mr. lybrate-user, you have to reduce almost 20 kg weight. Walk daily 5 km atleast. Do yoga nd pranayam. Eat 1 kg papaya daily. Eat salad daily like cucumber, onion, tomatoes, carrot. Is every little ulcer under the tongue in mouth due to smoking a cancer? Because I have a little ulcer under the tongue for almost three years. I have leukoplakia near the ulcer area and some time I feel pain on the ulcer. I am a smoker. Will the ulcer disappears by it's own if I can leave smoking?

Not every ulcer is related to cancer. But an ulcer that is recurrent for chronic duration such as 3 years is mandatory to be checked out. Your doctor will give you local analgesic cream and antibiotics. You should be able to heal your ulcer however if not your doctor will take a swab of your ulcer to see under the microscope.

I have a problem in bowel movement. Stools are hard and dry. Comes out in pieces. Difficult to eliminate. Feel uncomfortable full despite not eating for hours. Feel bloated and gassy. Hello Lybrate user your digestion is totally disturbed. To improve your digestion take light and easily digestible food like daliya khichdi salad soups etc. Avoid fatty and spicy foods, sweets, maida besan etc. Don't skip any meal. Take plenty of water. Take isabgol husk at night. Start yoga, exercise ,and morning walk.

Food & Depression - How The Two Are Related?

Depression is a clinical, mental, and emotional condition that may give rise to feelings of hopelessness and chronic sadness. It slows down the way people process everyday activities and leads the patient to a sense of constant gloom and doom. It is a disabling mental condition as per WHO, and may be caused due to reasons like genetics, changes in the balance of hormones, stress, grief, trauma and prolonged, chronic physical ailments. Depression is also connected with food and nutrition. Do you want to know how? 

Read on to see the three ways in which food and depression are connected. 

  1. Severity and Duration: Depression is a mental illness that signifies an imbalance in the hormones and the emotional faculties in the brain. Nutrition is the fuel that keeps the brain and body in prime working condition. When a depressive state sets in or becomes emotionally rooted, then nutritious eating and a proper diet take a back seat as the patient succumbs to a state where he or she is not concerned about the food intake. As a result, the brain and hormonal balance get further affected. This can have an adverse effect on the severity and the duration of the depressive mode, which makes it all a vicious cycle of sorts. Poor appetite, not having proper meals, skipping meals, eating junk, avoiding social settings where food will be served, and even emotional eating are all outcomes of depression too.
  2. Eating Disorders: Many patients who have eating disorders often experience deep rooted and chronic depression. Since despondency and hopelessness are the main characteristics of depressive behaviour, the outcome is that the patient tries to behave in a way that seeks approval. And in all this, the patient usually thinks that he or she is not 'good enough'. In such a scenario, the patient may start trying out fad diets and eventually fall prey to eating disorders like Bulimia that make the patient overeat and then vomit. These eating disorders usually come with phases of binge eating, throwing up, starving and then repeating the cycle again. Eating in secrecy is also a symptom of this condition.
  3. Nutrition to Fight Depression: Nutrition and proper food intake can build a sense of resilience by first of all improving the overall physical condition of the patient. This can take care of a lot of angst even as the minerals and vitamins travel to the brain for better functioning in the long run.

Ensure that you eat right as a part of your therapy for depression. This is as good as taking your medication on time!

Thanks for contacting with your health concern 1. Check with other blood parameters like blood sugar, low thyroid, cholesterol level and sedentary lifestyle as the cause of weight gain. - Remember that starvation is not the right way to lose weight. Take the right type of diet and eat heartily and develop healthy eating habits, i.e. I. Do not eat only 2 large meals a day. It leads to overeating due to hunger. Take snacks in between. It is advisable to eat a good breakfast and light lunch and dinner. Ii. Keep a quiet and pleasant atmosphere in the dining hall. Watching TV while eating, talking, arguments, angry discussions all lead to overeating. Iii. Eat slowly; chewing each bite thoroughly gives a feeling of satiation. Iv. Learn to calculate the calories consumed as well as the calories burnt, and maintain the balance every day. 2. Brisk walking for 45 minutes every day, including Yogasanaas and Pranayama which should be learned under expert guidance. Items that actually help are onion, garlic, soya bean, curds of skimmed milk, apple. 3. Consult an Endocrinologist for any hormonal problem and if everything is normal, make an appointment with a Dietitian for a comprehensive diet chart. PS. I have done a blood sugar test 15 days back. And the fasting blood sugar was 98 and HBA1C was 6.2. Test was done in pathcare. Then I am so worried and did a test again and now fasting is 84 and post lunch is 141. And I did not done HBA1C now. Is the test appears normal? Please help me out on this.

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. The blood glucose levels (fasting) are very much normal. However, PP 141 mg and HbA1c% 6.2, show that you may be in a pre-diabetes state. It is a warning signal. What it means is if you take adequate care like avoiding too much of sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods, pastries, bakery items, foods made of maida and aerated sweetened drinks, then there will be no reason to worry. Plus there has to be a proper balanced diet. Regular exercise for at least 1 hour a day and keeping normal weight are other aspects to be kept in mind. Thanks.
