I have rectal pain from the past 10 days and it was severe pain while passing stool and bleeding. I have consulted a doctor and he prescribed some Amoxicillin antibiotic and zerodol tablet along with one stool softener syrup freelex. After 3 days also it wasn't reduced and he gave me another antibiotic with more power along with zerodol. Now it is a bit okay. He says it's fissure and needs surgery. Does it really required? Around 3 years back the same situation has come and I have used drotin tablet along with flagyl 400 based on the prescription by another doctor n it got cured in 4-5 days. Can you please suggest the permanent solution for this problem?

Surgery is the last option. Depending upon the severity, you must decide weather to opt medication or surgery. There are some Ayurveda medicines that may help you. First of all you need to take care of your bowels. Motions should be clear regularly. You may heat 50 ml of mustard oil then add 5gms camphor to it. Apply this oil daily 4-5 times in anal region.

Peptic Ulcer - 5 Homeopathic Remedies For It!

Peptic Ulcer - 5 Homeopathic Remedies For It!

Peptic ulcers are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach, lower esophagus, or small intestine (the duodenum), usually as a result of inflammation caused by the bacteria H. pylori, as well as from erosion from stomach acids. Peptic ulcers are a fairly common health problem.

Causes

  1. Heredity – Patients with peptic ulcer often have a family history of the disease, this is particularly so with duodenal ulcers which develop below the age of 20 years. The relatives of chronic ulcer patients have three times the expected number of ulcers.
  2. Helicobacter pylori – This is the most important etiological factor in peptic ulcer disease, accounting for 90% of duodenal ulcers and 70% of gastric ulcers. By causing gastritis it reduces the resistance of the gastric mucosa to attack be acid and pepsin and a gastric ulcer may result.
  3. Non-Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) – They damage the gastric mucosal barrier and are an important etiological factor in up to 30% of gastric ulcers.
  4. Smokingconfers an increased risk of gastric ulcer and to a lesser extent duodenal ulcer.

Symptoms

  1. Abdominal pain
  2. Hunger pain
  3. Night pain
  4. Episodic pain/ Periodicity

Other Symptoms

  1. Heartburn
  2. Loss of appetite
  3. Vomiting

Homeopathic Treatment For Peptic Ulcers

Homeopathy offers some very good medicines for peptic ulcer disease. But for a homeopath, the symptoms of the disease are much more important than the ulcer itself. This is because to select the right medicine a homeopaths needs to differentiate between the finer presentations of a disease which, vary from person to person. A homeopath not only tries to heal the ulcer but also tries to remove the general predisposition to acquire it. The homeopath not only tries to find ‘What is wrong?’, but also ‘Why it went wrong?’; ‘Where it started going wrong?’; ‘How it evolved to the current stage?’ etc. To find the answers to all these questions, a homeopath tries to gather as much information as possible regarding the pat and present medical history of the patient, his/her family history, his/her general physical and psychological characteristics etc. This hard work on the part of homeopath not only helps in removing the acute symptoms and the ulcer but also is usually able to remove the tendency for relapse. The ‘on-again/off-again’ nature of the disease is often removed and the general health of the person also improves as a result.

Homeopathic Medicines for Stomach Ulcers

  1. Argentum Nitricum – One of the best Homeopathic medicines for stomach ulcers with radiating pains
  2. Nux Vomica – Highly effective among Homeopathic medicines for stomach ulcers where eating worsens pain
  3. Kali Bichromicum – One of the most wonderful Homeopathic medicines for ulcers in stomach
  4. Lycopodium Clavatum – One of the effective Homeopathic medicines for stomach ulcers with bloated abdomen
  5. Carbo Veg – One of the known Homeopathic medicines for stomach ulcers

In person consultation with a professional homeopathic practitioner is advised!

Symptoms of Menopause, or rather of "peri-menopause" often overlap with symptoms due to thyroid. Since the symptoms are very similar one could get confused and overlook the impact of menopausal issues on the Thyroid Hormones as a result of which the treatment would be far from optimum. In such a case I would undertake a complete evaluation of the thyroid, Metabolic imbalance and Menopausal Hormones. Only after that would I plan the treatment.

Fatty Liver - What To Know About It?

MBBS, MD - General Medicine, DM - Gastroenterology, Fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy
Gastroenterologist, Mumbai
Fatty Liver - What To Know About It?

Fatty liver is a condition where excess fat is deposited on this organ. Also called as steatosis, this condition happens when more than 5- 10 percent of the weight of the liver is made up of fat. Fatty liver is a common condition among people. A study from coastal regions of India found ~ 25% of healthy persons had patients had fatty liver on ultrasound. It can occur at all ages including childhood, highest prevalence is in 40–50 year age group. Prevalence more in patient who are obese and in diabetic patients.

Types of Fatty Liver

1 Alcoholic fatty liver: This condition occurs when there is a heavy consumption of alcohol. Gastroenterologists recommend abstention from alcohol for this condition to subside. If the patient continues to consume alcohol, then liver cirrhosis may develop.

2 Non alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL): One may develop a fatty liver even if one is not an alcoholic. The liver in some cases is unable to process the fat in cells causing them to build-up on the organ.

When more than 10% of the liver is made of fat then this condition is called Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver (NAFL).

Non alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH): When fatty liver is associated with inflammation in liver patient is said to be having Non alcoholic steatohepatitis. NASH is a more advanced stage of NAFLD, and has a higher risk of progressing to liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). These condition display symptoms like jaundice, vomiting, nausea, loss of appetite and abdominal pain. Blood test (LFT) shows raised enzymes level. Approx 5-8% of the Indian population has NASH. Consult a doctor if you are experiencing any of these symptoms.

3 Fatty liver during pregnancy: Occurring mainly in the third trimester, the symptoms of this condition are vomiting, nausea, pain the right part of the abdomen and jaundice.

Symptoms

During the early stages (fatty liver) of the disease, patients usually have no symptoms directly related to liver disease. However, people may experience a vague abdominal discomfort. If their liver is inflamed (NASH) then they may display symptoms of poor appetite, weight loss, pain in the abdomen and disorientation.

What causes fatty liver?

The most common cause of fatty liver is alcoholism. When the human liver is unable to metabolize fat fast enough or when there is an excess accumulation of fat on the liver cells then the liver becomes fatty. However, intake of high-fat foods may not result in a fatty liver.

Predisposing factor:

  1. Diabetes mellitus
  2. Obesity or being overweight
  3. Hyperlipidemia or the condition where there are high levels of fat in the blood
  4. Genetic reasons
  5. Rapid loss of weight
  6. Drugs: Aspirin, steroids, tamoxifen, tetracycline etc. cause side effects which also leads to fatty liver
  7. Nutritional status (eg, overnutrition, severe malnutrition, total parenteral nutrition [TPN], or starvation diet)
  8. Other health problems (eg, Hepatitis C infection, celiac sprue and Wilson disease).
