Hello Ms. Lybrate-user, please see to it, that there is no swelling present, if injury had occurred in less than 48 hrs you can apply ice or vapocoolant spray, but if more than 48 hrs you can apply local heat in the vicinity of the injury. If pain & swelling still persists persistent please consult a competent orthopaedician.

Dear Mr Ashraf , calf muscles do not pain for no apparent reason, may be in your case the muscles are either weak, strained &/or are facing deficiency in calcium or magnesium. Lack of exercises, sleep or a sedantary lifestyle may also contibute to muscular pains, drink plenty of water, do regular stretches & exercises for your calf muscles to keep them fit & ready for activity, do consider taking egg, milk, dates, green leafy veggies etc in your diet, cut smoking & alcohol intake (if you do take them)

Ask Free Question
Dear Mr Avijit, Icing has since long been used to decrease swelling or oedema, but there is stipulated duration to its use for therapeutic purposes, if your swelling has developed recently (24 to48 hrs) it may be recommended, but there is scanty evidence in medical literature that a long standing case of odema or swelling around the joint may respond to icing or cryotherapy, I suggest you to consult your Physio or Doc in your case for further clarification

Dear Mr Avirat, the answer to the question you pose depends upon the severity & degree of tear your ligament has undergone, in cases where the tear is bad , surgery alone at the earlist without much linger can help you achieve optimal outcome, pls do consult your Ortho surgeon , do not have an iota of thought that anything else may help if the tear is severe, because surgery alone has proved to be the best way to restore you back to fittness if the tear is severe & limiting your daily activity & restricting your lifestyle
