After completing DNB in Hematology, at Sahyadri Specialty Hospital, Pune, he did Fellowship in Hematology at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He has several scientific publications to his credit. He has published several books on Hematology and for PG Medical entrance exams. He has expertise in evaluating anemia, polycythemia, thrombocytopenia, pancytopenia, abnormal WBC count and bleeding disorders. He in trained in hemato-oncology and bone marrow transplantation and he treats patients with various types of anemia, leukemia, lymphoma, clotting disorders and bleeding disorders.

Hi lybrate-user, You may do Iron profile and Hemoglobin HPLC. If Ferritin or Transferrin saturation is low, it is iron deficiency. If Hb A2 on HPLC is more than 3.5%, it is beta thalassemia trait.
Hi lybrate-user, If you can tolerate Iron pills, it is better to take them for 2 months and stop. No need to repeat ferritin levels after that.
