My father has a gallstones in gall bladder since 1 year and since 1 month. Doctors also inserted a flexible Steel Stent In body to block the way of Gall bladder. And doctor is giving a date of surgery on 30 march 2016 is it okay or we have its so long. And sometimes dad suffering from pain also.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Delhi
Gall bladder gets diseased due to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle. This leads to an imbalance of the acid-alkali balance in the body which causes the cholesterol to precipitate in the gall bladder leading to stone formation. Over time, these may get infected and lead to an acute inflammation, pain, fever etc. A stone may move ahead into a narrow passage or the duct and get stuck leading to severe agony. One can avoid formation of gall stones by just avoiding fatty food, junk foods and going behind unhealthy diet. To cure it naturally with medicines only one can just take our medicines which are combination of herbal and homeo medicines. Just take our medicines for some time and stones will be expelled also thereafter that stent can also be removed.

Hello sir, I am male 30. I am getting stools with pain and light blood. I think its for high temperature, and also I am travelling from last week and outside food. Pls suggest me medicine to get rid off pain in anus and stomach.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Hyderabad
As you are traveling you may be consuming food prepared unhygienically, my suggestion is get your stools analysed in a standard lab, and see a surgeon or proctologist for proctoscopy, if on external exam doctor finds you have a fissure in ano he will not & should not perform proctoscopy instead he will treat you for fissure by local analgesic ointments and will suggest dietary changes, once fissure heals he will perform proctoscopy to rule out any other condition or he may do it in first visit if you don't have fissure. Self diagnosis & self imposed diets and unscientific treatment by one's own ideas is condemnable. Seek doctors help right away is my suggestion.

I frequently have diarrhea again and again. Can I have something natural other than medicine to cure it?

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Consuming orange juice and water is a good option to stall dysentery. You can also drink buttermilk as an alternative. This helps to encourage intestinal friendly bacteria in the stomach to grow. Alternatively, you can have curd too. Both buttermilk and curd contain good bacteria that produce acetic acid and destroy the harmful bacteria in the stomach.

DO’S In Gastritis: Chew your food properly. Eat SLOWLY. Many people find it so hard to do this. Taking meals'on the run' is a no-no, Chew and swallow food slowly. Be relaxed when you are eating, Sit upright or even stand up when you eat, Choose low fat foods rather than fatty foods, Finish eating at least two hours before you go to bed, Drink Water - lots of it! In most cases, a glass of water can relieve abdominal pains within ten minutes. Eat three small meals plus three snacks per day. Eat regularly to avoid periods of hunger. DO not: Try not to drink too much tea or coffee - caffeine raises acid levels. Avoid food sources like dairy products, cola beverages, fatty and fried foods, tomato products, and hot spices. Try abstaining from alcohol - it also raises acid levels. Smoking - nicotine also raises acid levels. Try not to use any form of aspirin (check those packaging inserts) Painkillers and arthritis medications (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAID's) which contain ibuprofen (again, check those packaging inserts) can cause ulcers and delay the healing process Antacids should be used sparingly or avoided - most antacids contain magnesium and can cause diarrhea. Stop eating any food that causes discomfort - even if it tastes nice! Foods that are well toleratedVegetables - Fresh, frozen, or canned. Vegetables, Okra, sweet potatoes, squash, yams, broccoli, brussel sprouts, bean sprouts, carrots and carrot juice, potatoes, cabbage juice. Fruit - Papaya, avocados, bananas, Blue grapes, almonds and almond milk and any other fresh, frozen, and canned fruits. High-fiber foods - Brown rice, barley, oats, are helpful as they can naturally coat and soothe your stomach lining. Eggs - 3-4 egg yolks per week maximum. Smooth peanut butter -Fresh, frozen, and canned fruits. Meat in small 6oz portions at most - lean beef, pork, lamb, veal, crispy bacon, lean ham, and skinless poultry. Stomach Infection - Easy Tips To Help You Treat It!

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Stomach Infection - Easy Tips To Help You Treat It!

Food is one of the most common ways of getting an infection, and so the stomach is more prone to infections than other body parts. Whether it is eating raw or uncooked foods or unhygienic foods, the stomach bears the brunt of one’s bad food practices. The only consoling factor is that it is equally easy to treat a stomach infection if some simple measures are adhered to.

Read on to know some of the easiest and most effective ways to treat a stomach infection.

  1. Drink it right: What you drink and how you drink makes a lot of difference to the way your stomach infection will respond. The vomiting, diarrhoea and sweating is robbing the body of a lot of fluids, and so replenishing this fluid along with minerals is very essential. Ensure you drink a lot of clear liquids like water, coconut water, clear soups, sports drinks, and other energy drinks. Electrolyte replacement can be added to improve their efficacy. Herbal teas like ginger tea and peppermint tea are highly recommended to soothe the stomach too. At the same time, avoid caffeine, strong black tea, alcohol, and chocolate as they are detrimental to the already affected stomach.
  2. Eat right: Even on a regular basis, you are what you eat. So, when your stomach is already infected, eating right assumes a lot more importance. Go easy on the stomach and give it something easy to digest, yet of high nutritional value. Banana, rice, apple, and toast (abbreviated as BRAT) is very easy and packs in good nutrition for the recovering stomach. Avoid a lot of fibres, fatty foods, greasy foods, sugars, and dairy products which are hard for the stomach to digest. Eat small meals, but eat a lot more frequently than you otherwise would.
  3. Rest well: With the body losing a lot of fluids and nutrition along with it, the body would naturally feel very tired and fatigued. Let the body run its course, and give it the rest it demands. In the next couple of days, once the virus has run its course, this will resolve.
  4. Medications: Stomach infection is usually caused by a virus, and so antibiotics do not play a curative role here. However, if you have high fever or body aches, Tylenol or acetaminophen can be used sparingly. If diarrhoea or vomiting is severe, loperamide or promethazine can also be used. However, this should be substituted with sufficient rest and nutrition (solid and liquids).

If these are not helping and you are not able to keep the food down, visit the doctor. Sometimes, a day or two in the hospital may be required for complete cure and recovery.

My wife complained of painless blood in stool in june 2013. A colonoscopy with biopsy suggested chron's disease. Since then she was prescribed mesacol 400 mg thrice daily. However she took only 1 tablet per day for 2 years and that kept the problem in check. She got pregnant on september 2015 and was off mesacol for the duration of pregnancy. She delivered our baby via c section on june 2016 and since then was complaining of lose motion. She did not resume mesacol fearing interference with lactation. After 1 month of lose motion she started complaining of unbearable abdominal pain. We saw a gastroenterologist who suggested a few tests- USG whole abdomen, blood tests, fecal calprotectin and endoscopy (ugi, lgi and capsule). We did all the tests except endoscopy. Usg whole abdomen revealed nothing but fatty liver, blood test revealed high eosinophil and fecal calprotectin was 206. She was prescribed mesacol od 1.2 g twice daily and probiotics which she is taking now and has no problems now. My question is are all 3 types of endoscopy needed? What should be my future course of action?

Upper, lower and capsule endoscopy, each has got its limitations. In upper and lower gastro intestinal endoscopy you cannot reach beyond a point and to visualize the small intestine beyond duodenum and jejunum, one needs the capsule which independently traverses the course of tract giving imaging signals of the interior of the small intestine. Now that she is not having any complaint on mesacol 1.2 gm bd, you don't need to do much. Calprotectin at 206 (ug/gm or mg/ kg of faeces) is higher than normal consideration but it is a general marker only to suggest ibd (inflammatory bowel disease)
