Hello mam. My baby has completed her two months but she is breastfeeding I want to know my proper diet what to eat or what to not for her better development please help me as me and her stomach not well we both passes gas so much.

Hello mam. My baby has completed her two months but she is breastfeeding I want to know my proper diet what to eat or...
Focus on eating whole grains and cereals, legumes, fresh fruits and vegetables. And go for foods that provide plenty of protein, calcium, and iron (and, as always, an occasional treat is fine). Traditionally, breastfeeding mums are given a lot of dried fruit, ghee and sugar. These high calorie foods usually were meant to supplement the khichdi diet that mums traditionally follow after birth. If you are eating normal food, you can leave out the extra ghee and sugar. Dried fruits are extremely healthy and used in most traditional confinement foods. Try having them without the ghee and sugar by putting them in your porridge (dalia) for example or in some kheer. This way your relatives will be happy that you are eating the traditional ingredients but you will not be loaded with the high calories. If you must eat the laddoos or panjiri you can reduce the calorie count by eating smaller portions. Some recipes could work well with lesser quantities of ghee and for others you could use a healthier alternative such as canola oil. If you are used to having aerated drinks to quench your thirst it is best to avoid these while breastfeeding. They contain just empty calories and no nutrition. You could instead substitute it with healthier drinks such as lassi, coconut water, buttermilk (chhaach), fresh fruit and vegetable juices or nimbu pani

Reason for struggling cough and breathing deep is either latching is not properly or most likely her nostrils are blocked or gets blocked during feed. Take care of these. If there is milk Bank in your town you may give there excessive milk. If condition is not resolved, consult pediatrician.

You can try lactare tablets - 2 tablet once daily and see if it helps. Best is to keep trying by putting the baby to the breast and expressing the milk that comes out. It should gradually increase.

If your daughter complains of pain in anus, it may be due to hard stool. Give her fibrous food and plenty of water. If it is abdominal pain before passing stool, it in normal.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
We cannot increase height as it is genetic nature and for weight you have to tell her weight to assess her condition. ANyway you need to check her TSH to make sure she does not have hypothyroidism which is a reason for lack of weight gain

Chronic Gas Problem - Facts You Should Know About it

MBBS
General Physician, Chandigarh
Chronic Gas Problem - Facts You Should Know About it

Almost all of us have experienced bloating, gas or an upset stomach. Yet some people experience this problem at a chronic level. Gas occurs in the stomach and intestines due to breakdown of food into energy. All of us pass gas, however some people do more than others. An average person passes gas 5-20 times a day.

An upset stomach can often cause problems and can be a difficult battle for many people. Although the symptoms of gas problems often relate to an improper diet, yet other factors may be also responsible.

Causes and Symptoms of Gas Problems

  1. Swallowing air: The swallowed air which is not burped out, passes through the digestive system and is released through the opening of the anus. Hiccups can also occur if you have swallowed excessive air.
  2. Diet: The reaction of different foods varies from one person to another. Also foods that lead to odorous gas may also vary from person to person. Yet, spicy foods and dairy products are the most common causes of gas. Example - Beans, cabbage, onions, radishes, eggs, carbonated drinks, sugar, packaged foods etc.
  3. Medications: Certain medicines and supplements, including prescription drugs, can lead to gas problems and bloating. Further, medications which change the hormonal balance in the body can also cause bloating.
  4. Medical problems: Certain medical conditions such as Irritable bowel syndrome or bowel obstruction can also lead to an upset stomach.

Common symptoms of gas problems include gas pain, cramping, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation. In the worst of cases, gas and bloating indicate colon cancer. Such people experience rapid weight loss, anaemia and blood in stools.

Treatment
Modifying your lifestyle, in particular your dietary practices, is essential to a healthy recovery.

  • Avoiding foods such as spaghetti, oats, bran, barley, banana, bread etc. which contain high fibre content is important.
  • You can opt for over the counter medications after consulting your physician. Homeopathy and Ayurveda can be also opted as alternative forms of treatment.

My daughter is about to be 1 year old, and she is having cold cough in her chest. Doctor has advised Asthalin 5 ml morning and evening. I would like to know for what purpose Asthalin is used, and is it advisable to give such a small kid.

Hello, Thanks for the query. What your daughter has, is Common Cold in which the airway tubes get coated with mucous and makes them thinner making the passage of air difficult. Asthalin is a bronchodilator (medication which will melt the mucus accumulated in the airway). This melted mucus comes out as a cough, vomiting or in motion. It is commonly used in congestion for children of that age.

Your son may have a scalp seborrhea or fungal infection if there is no hair in patches. Treatment with anti seborrhea shampoo might help. Along with that a nourishing diet and vitamin supplements.

We have 2 kids of ages 2.4 years (son) & 2 months (daughter) respectively. While my wife was pregnant, we had worked with our son to teach a fair positive impression about his upcoming sibling & he had also responded quite well. Since the pregnancy, I had taken primary responsibilities to take care of him with fair support & company from my parents, while my wife also tried to do as much as she could. Also, around the age of 1.6 yrs, we worked with him to get rid of the habit of breastfeed by educating him that he is now grown up & he should let his sibling to take that, which had also worked pretty well. After my wife has come back after delivery with our daughter, we found he likes his sister quite well & loves to play with her too. However, we also started noticing a few changes in his behavior as follows, which I would like to share to make sure we are not ignoring any major problem. 1) We heard him saying 4-5 times in past one month that feeding is for sister & not for him, after which he sadly lies down on the bed. 2) He is quite possessive about his grandfather & does not allow him to take his sister at all. Even when I try to spend time with her, he does not take it in the right spirit. 3) Now he is reluctant to sleep with us & prefers to sleep with the grandparents, however, if I sleep with him separately, while the mother sleeps with the daughter, apparently it works better for him. What we are afraid is if he continues to sleep with grandparents, he might feel himself deprived of the company of his parents during sleeping. 4) He looks a little less focused in his daily study (with me), although he has the ability to pick up things really fast. Considering all these aspects, do you think I should continue to sleep with my son separately while the mother sleeps with the daughter to make things peaceful? Please advise in terms of overall well being of the entire family.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
I am very impressed by the way you have handled everything and he has sibling rivalry even without his conscious mind knowing it. The 2 month old daughter needs utmost support now and all you can do is spend as much time with him as possible and feed the newborn when his attention is away and you can allow him to sleep with ou while taking care to feed the baby properly and console him and make him involved in baby care like changing napkins etc.. You can talk in detail with me via the site
