I have recently started drinking alcohol (3 times) and its on 31st I tried a spirit (whisky) for the first time. I didn't drink much just about a 1 beer and 100 ml of whisky in a period of 3-4 hours. I experienced a reduced sensation or "numbness" on my face for some time. This was somewhat reduced when I woke up the next day and then it went away. Is this a normal side effect? Or should I see a doctor?

It's ok to experience this. These some of the effects of drinking alcohol. Check yourself for the same. The mentioned symptoms go away with the effect of alcohol. But if these worry you then you can choose to stop taking alcohol.

Pediatric Obstructive Sleep Apnea

DNB (ENT), MBBS, MNAMS - Otorhinolaryngology
ENT Specialist, Gurgaon
Play video

Hello, I am Dr Harmeet Singh Pasricha I am an ENT specialist working in Gurgaon for last 20 years. Today I am going to speak on a topic called paediatric obstructive sleep apnea or paediatric OSA. This is a common condition in children which present as mouth breathing during sleep during children and there is snoring also during sleep. This happens usually in the age group of 4 to 8 years during sleep it happens because there is an abstraction in the nose patient cannot breathe through the nose so it starts breathing through the mouth. This happens because of increase in the size of the tonsils and adenoids, tonsils are a pair of lymphatic tissue in the throat and adenoid is similar tissue which is situated in the midline behind the nose in the throat. When these adenoid increase in size then there is obstruction of the nose from the back side so a child cannot breathe through the nose. So in advertly opens the mouth to breathe, there is lack of oxygenation in the body and patient is restless during sleep and because of continued mouth breathing because of the growing age in the children, there are changes which developed in the face and nose of the patient. In it the front teeth come out and the pallet which is the partition between the nose and the throat it goes up, the development of the nose is reduced it forms the pins nose and the bones of the cheek they elongate downwards and the patient develops and adenoid faces. So because of the growing age, this has to control and we have to manage the patient medically. Initially, if the medical management of the patient fails then we have to go in for surgery. The surgery involves removal of the tonsil that is tonsillectomy and removal of adenoids that is adenoidectomy. Now because of its a procedure is done under general anaesthesia and adenoidectomy is now usually these days done under direct vision using the endoscopic technique transnasal or transoral technique and it is done with powered instruments now usually using micro debrider or coblation and adenoidectomy is done, so which opens up the space of the nasofarings and patient can breathe through the nose and tonsils are also removed. So the airways opened up and once the patient breathes smoother nose properly, he gets proper oxygenation and the shape of the face can be prevented from distortion. Thank you, you can contact me at my clinic a Dr Pasricha’s ENT & Eye Care Centre, Old Jail Land Complex, Sohna Adda, Gurugram, or at Columbia Asia Hospital, Palam Vihar, Gurgaon or you can book an appointment on lybrate.com. Thank you.

Migraine - How Homeopathic Remedies Can Help You Treat The Problem?

A migraine is a Neurovascular disorder. It is episodic with severe headache that is intense, often with severe giddiness, severe sensitivity to light, nausea, and vomiting. The affected individual recognizes that a migraine is on the way by its unusual sensation. The pain can last anywhere from half an hour to a couple of days and is periodic in nature. Though the exact reason for a migraine has not been identified but can be triggered by stress, caffeine, hormonal fluctuations, excessive cold or hot weather, excessive burnout, and strong odours.

When Headache is termed as migraine:

More than four attack for simple migraine without aura & two or more attack for complex migraine (with aura)

Main symptoms of migraine:

  • Throbbing, pulsating pain or dull congestive aching pain.
  • Dimness of vision and Nausea with or without vomiting
  • Hyper reactive to all senses like noise, light, smell, touch etc.
  • Hemicrania (one sided headache) or pain on the top of head (vertex).

Besides,

  • Triggering factors are responsible almost in each case.
  • Gradual onset of pain (rarely sudden) and goes to the pick & lasts for variable time (Hours to days).

The actual episode of a migraine can be broken into 4 stages, and though a person may not know in the first instance, with recurrent attacks, one becomes aware of when an attack is about to happen.

  1. Prodromal – There could be altered bowel movements, irritability and mood swinging, neck stiffness & tiredness.
  2. Aura – There could be visual disturbances along with pain in the legs and arms, twitching movement in muscles.
  3. Attack – This is the actual pain on one or both sides of the head along with nausea, vomiting, blurred vision and sensitivity to light.
  4. Postdrome – The person would be left exhausted and drained and needs a couple of days to get back to normal. Homeopathic treatment is supposed to be the best treatment for migraine because
    • It does not use pain killers (like allopathic).
    • It has no side-effects.
    • No palliation.
    • Recovery from the disease (or it is effective to cure the disease).

In homeopathy the holistic approach to cure the disease is quite unique, and is called Individualization. There is no other treatment procedure which follows individual type of medicine selection. That is, the doctor has to select the best medicine for each case of each individual and medicine may be different for the same disease. In homeopathy, there is no specific medicine for any disease condition. This toughest selection can be done by proper and through case-taking by a good homeopathic physician. An online search can give you multiple medicine names which claim to work for migraine headaches but be careful to avoid self-medication.

In NANOPATHY® (The Complete Care with Homeopathy) special formulated protocol is used to give Maximum Result with Minimum Medicine & without side effect in every disease condition. Treatment of migraine also comes in such protocol which will give you rapid relief. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
