Actually you are overweight and whilke standing our legs have to bear our whole body weight and if weight is more our legs will get easily exhausted,so reduce weight by atleast 6-8 Kg.Secondly I think you are not doing any type of morning walks or regular exercises due to which our muscles become weak and our legs muscles being under continuous stress, gets easily exhausted. So I will advise you to start doing a brisk morning walk regularily for 20-30 minutes. At start it will be problamatic for legs but with time everything will be alright.

I have joint pain and also ankle and neck pain. Please consult me something to resolve it.

I have joint pain and also ankle and neck pain. Please consult me something to resolve it.
Try some remedies for joint pain: -ice packs can be used to soothe hot, swollen joints. -heat packs help to relax tense, tired muscles. -splinting of swollen or painful joints may be helpful, a physiotherapist or an occupational therapist (ot) may provide temporary splints for you. -pace yourself: overdoing things can increase your pain, but so can not doing enough. Your physiotherapist can advise you on increasing your activity level at a rate you can cope with and on finding the right balance between rest and activity. -take regular graded exercise: graded exercise starts slowly and increases in small steps. This will help you to strengthen your muscles and joints and increase your fitness. Improving your general fitness and stamina will help you to increase your activity level without increasing your pain. -mobilising, stretching and strengthening: your physiotherapist will assess your muscle strength and the range of movement in your joints, and advise on techniques and exercises so you can keep your joints working as well as possible. Best wishes.

My mother is 45-46 years old. Her ankle swells most of the times and she feels pain for the same. Sometimes after taking medicines it goes away. But again it comes back. She has been suffering from this pain since many years. Her elbow joints on both the hands are also suffering from same kind of issues. Please suggest is there any kind of exercises she should do to avoid such pains / issues as she and we have lost faith on medicines and all. And also please let us know, should she avoid any such diets or foods which might be triggering such issues /pains in her body.

BPTh/BPT

Hi initially, tell her to rest 1) apply cold pack or ice pack for 20 min. At every 2 hrs. 2) keep her ankle elevated by placing pillow under ankle. 3) wrap elastic bandage around ankle which you can learn from physiotherapist. Also ultrasound therapy will be good for her. And for elbow you have not given enough information do reply back for private consultation and detailed treatment plan.

Keep your leg raised while sitting or lying quadriceps strengthening exercises- quad clenches: lie flat on your back or sit upright on a chair with leg kept horizontally on another surface. Short arcs: lie flat on your back or sit upright with your leg placed horizontally on a flat surface like a chair or bed. Place a rolled up towel under the knee. Pull your toes towards you and tighten/clench the muscle on the front of the thigh, locking your knee straight. Lift your foot up in the air, about 6 inches off the bed. Hello lybrate-user low back pain is very common problem. Bad posture plays a very significant role in the genesis of this disease. Back muscles maintain the erect posture when spine become unbalanced and displaced no. Of muscle fibers tends fatigue earlier cause s insufficiency and results putting strain on ligaments and facet joints. You must start light back exercises on firm matters for ten days followed by strengthening exercises. Walking for 5-10min within comfort level of body. Hot fermentation after exercises.

Back pain at your age is most likely due to facet arthritis (arthritis of joints connecting adjacent vertebra in spine). This is age related degenerative disorder. You should consult a pain specialist for evaluation and diagnosis. This condition can be easily treated by injection into the facet joint in operation theatre. Meanwhile do the following for relief. 1. Take anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen for 3 to 4 days. 2. Start back stretching and strengthening exercises once pain is decreased. 3. Avoid lifting weights. 4. Keep pillow behind knees at night time when sleeping. 5. Diet rich in calcium and vitamins. 6. Proper ergonomics at computer work. For further details consult again.

You have possibly sprained a ligament or joint capsule or a miscle strain in your back. First step is to take full rest for 2 to 3 days and get some pain killers from your local physician. Apply ice packs to painful area. If pain is not significantly better by then, you need to see a spine specialist for clinical evaluation.

Sir it has been 2 months that I am suffering from back pain lower side whenever I sit for too long or walk for too long. I have shown to 4 to 5 doctors they said x ray is fine and have given some medicines and injections and told some exercises but till today I haven't got any relief. Currently I have left medication and still suffering from the problem. please guide.

Pain in back when sitting in the chair and when lie in the bed and sleeping time this pain is long time.

Erasmus Mundus Master in Adapted Physical Activity, MPT, BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Chennai
Pain in back when sitting in the chair and when lie in the bed and sleeping time this pain is long time.
It looks like you are anaemic. If you have back pain after you sit for long hours then it is due to your haemoglobin levels as it is important to check that. Anaemia always leads to the symptoms of being tired and also having back / leg pain though there may not be any pathological reasons for back pain. The lower end of the vertebral column is inflamed and that bone is called coccyx bone and the condition is called Coccydynia. The conservative management would be to keep ice in that inflamed area during one time in a day and also to sit in a hot water bowl where the penetration of the heat would help to reduce the inflammation. And to reduce the weight falling on the inflammed surface we suggest patients to use air cushion pillow (also called as doughnut pillow) where in the buttock's weight will not fall exactly on the painful tail bone and that would automatically reduce the pain.
