I am having a knee pain and it happens when I stand up after sitting for a while.

I am having a knee pain and it happens when I stand up after sitting for a while.
Hi lybrate-user, Pick exercises that avoid bending and straightening of the knee. Doing the exercises with the knee straight will avoid irritation caused by the patella gliding up and down in the intercondylar groove of the femur. / Brace the joint if need be for support especially when walking or climbing stairs. You might need the additional support of a brace until local muscles get stronger to provide needed support. / Massage your knee with Mahanarayan herbal oil and have Panchakarma or Marma Chikitsa (Ayurvedic Acupressure) for your knee. Panchakarma is the Ayurvedic detoxification and rejuvenation therapeutic treatment. Ideally Panchakarma should be done 3-4 times a year in between change of seasons. It opens clogged channels in the body and helps clean the system of toxins and rejuvenates bodily tissues. When done for recovery after injuries, it can improve the strength of the system and help the body heal faster. / Doing regular massage of the knee and surrounding structures will help promote circulation and lymphatic flow. Will create a flushing effect to remove waste products and help the joint heal faster. / A ginger poultice applied to the knee will help with pain, circulation and healing. Ayurvedic herbs with Guggulu, Ashwagandha, Musta, Guduchi, Triphala, Shilajit, Ginger and Turmeric can be very effective anti-inflammatories, pain relievers and detoxifiers. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Shoulder pain & armIt is called as peri arthritis shoulder and for that you can do hot water fermentation and ice therapy at home. If you have shoulder pain then the stiffness will develop more that might make the arm to have less improvement which might make you to feel more pain the arm. And also cervical pillow can be used which might make you to have better posture of the shoulder neck and arm.

Sir I have pain in my shoulders and also in legs you can explain me or describe the solution pls.

Sir I have pain in my shoulders and also in legs you can explain me or describe the solution pls.
Shoulder pain can be a result of injury or disease of the shoulder joint. Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. Injury can also affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci and bones of the joint. Some minor shoulder pain can be treated at home. Icing the shoulder for 15 to 20 minutes, three or four times a day for two to three days can help reduce pain. Use an ice bag or wrap ice in a towel (putting ice directly on your skin can cause frostbite). Rest the shoulder and avoid any movements that might cause pain. Simple shoulder exercises can help to stretch and strengthen muscles and rotator cuff tendons. A physiotherapist can show you how to do them properly. Most leg pain results from wear and tear, overuse, or injuries in joints or bones or in muscles, ligaments, tendons or other soft tissues. Leg pain can also be caused by blood clots, varicose veins or poor circulation. To relieve mild pain: stay off your leg as much as possible apply an ice pack or bag of frozen peas to the affected area for 15 to 20 minutes three times a day elevate your leg whenever you sit or lie down please go to a physiotherapist if: you have pain during or after walking you have swelling in both legs your pain gets worse your symptoms don't improve after a few days of home treatment you have painful varicose veins if you feel the pain is from muscle cramp then you need to drink a lot of water because poor fluid intake (dehydration) may predispose to cramps also low blood levels of either calcium or magnesium directly cause cramps. Best wishes.

See scoliosis that too 15 years old is a chronic condition and you need to exercise very regularly for this. As this may result in more curvature of spine if you ignore. Just stretch the concave side n strengthen the convex side. If you hv pain get Physiotherapy done for some sittings than follow exercises. Or you can contact us for further consultation.

Dear lybrate-user, this is very common problem. Not to worry. This condition is due to knee cap issues. Consult local Orthopaedic doctor to help out. Take care.

Main Cause of Back Pain: Sitting for Prolonged Periods

MPT, BPT
Physiotherapist, Noida
Main Cause of Back Pain: Sitting for Prolonged Periods

Sitting for prolonged period

  • Most people sitting for prolonged periods will eventually adopt a poor posture. 'When we sit in a certain position for a few minutes, the muscles that support our low back become tired and relax. Our body sags, and this results in the slouched sitting posture.
  • If we maintain a slouched sitting posture for long enough, it will cause overstretching of ligaments. Thus pain will arise when we have been sitting in certain positions for prolonged periods. Once the slouched sitting posture has become a habit and is maintained most of the time, it may also cause distortion of the discs contained in the vertebral joints. Once this occurs, movements as well as positions will produce pain.
  • It follows that people with sedentary office jobs easily develop low back problems as they often sit with a rounded back for hours on end. If you are a sedentary worker, you may go through the following stages of gradually increasing back problems unless you take steps to rectify the cause. At first you may only experience some discomfort in the low back while sitting for a prolonged period of time, or on arising from sitting. In this case the pain is caused by overstretching of soft tissues, and it takes a few seconds for these tissues to recover. The pain at this stage is short lived.
  • At a later stage you will find that on standing up you have increased pain, and must walk carefully for a short distance before you can straighten up fully. Now it is likely that some distortion has occurred in one of the lumbar discs: prolonged sitting has led to minor distortion of the affected disc, which needs a few minutes to recover.
  • Eventually you may reach the stage when you frequently experience acute or agonising pain on standing and are unable to straighten up at all. In this case there is a major distortion in the affected disc, which cannot regain its normal shape quickly enough to allow pain free movement. Whenever a movement is attempted, the disc bulge increases the strain on the already overstretched surrounding tissues. In addition, the disc bulge may pinch the sciatic nerve, which may lead to pain and other symptoms in the leg.
