What is Bursitis?

Bursitis describes a painful condition that develops as a result of bursae inflammation. Bursae are usually small, fluid-filled sacs that help to cushion the bones, muscles, and tendons present near the joints. Bursitis can appear anywhere on the body but there are some specific locations such as the hip, elbow, knee, etc. This causes a number of issues, including swelling, discomfort, redness, and immobility. Various treatments are available to treat this disorder. However, some go for home remedies too.

Types of Bursitis

  • Posterior Achilles tendon bursitis - occurs due to the type of walking which presses the soft heel tissue. Also known as Haglund’s deformity. Most common in young women.
  • Hip bursitis - often results due to injury, spinal abnormalities, or overuse. Most common in women, middle-aged people as well as older people
  • Knee bursitis - caused by the lack of stretching before exercise, being overweight, arthritis, etc. also called goosefoot bursitis.
  • Kneecap bursitis - occurs in people who sit on their knees a lot. Also known as prepatellar bursitis.
  • Elbow bursitis - occurs due to inflammation of the olecranon bursa due to constant pressure on the elbow.

Symptoms of Bursitis

  • Feels achy or stiff
  • Sudden inability to move joint
  • Bruising or rashes in the effects area
