Hi lybrate-user It seems like you have had some very difficult experiences that continue to make you feel distressed. It is natural for anyone to continue feeling worried and stressed if traumatic experiences are not processed (which can happen for many reasons ranging from adverse childhood experiences to lack of adequate resources in the present). Generally, as we try to 'delete' or 'forgive and move on' without working through the unpleasant emotions, we end up getting even more worried. To use a cliche, its like the elephant in the room. Also, in such situations, in addition to the difficult events, we also start doubting ourselves and worrying about our inability to forget and move on. This only adds to the distress, and can be a very frustrating cycle. To begin with, please give yourself time, patience and care you deserve, in the same way as you would care for someone you love. I think you are likely to find it helpful to seek help from a qualified psychologist who understands trauma, and who will be able to help you work through these concerns. All the best.

Hi Doctor, from the past many weeks I am finding myself very irritated. My patience level have gone to zero. I am often hungry and can't enjoy a sound sleep as 100s of thoughts keep circling in the mind. I am finding myself guilty in many situations because I argue on small things shout at others because of silly reasons and I could not control my anger. I have read it on multiple sites that I should try yoga and some exercise and I have started going on morning walk as soon as I return from the office along with my wife as I found myself uncomfortable with yoga and it's been two weeks but I am yet to see positive symptoms.

Hi sir/madam, This is Venkat, sometimes I am getting depression who avoids me, how to feel free.

Hi sir/madam, This is Venkat, sometimes I am getting depression who avoids me, how to feel free.
The word depressed is a common everyday word. People might say" i'm depressed" when in fact they mean" i'm fed up because i've had a row, or failed an exam, or lost my job" etc. These ups and downs of life are common and normal. Most people recover quite quickly. With true depression, you have a low mood and other symptoms each day for at least two weeks The common symptoms are (few might be present in a person with depression) Feelings of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness or hopelessness Angry outbursts, irritability or frustration, even over small matters Loss of interest or pleasure in most or all normal activities, such as sex, hobbies or sports Sleep disturbances, including insomnia or sleeping too much Tiredness and lack of energy, so even small tasks take extra effort Changes in appetite — often reduced appetite and weight loss, but increased cravings for food and weight gain in some people Anxiety, agitation or restlessness Slowed thinking, speaking or body movements Feelings of worthlessness or guilt, fixating on past failures or blaming yourself for things that aren't your responsibility Trouble thinking, concentrating, making decisions and remembering things Frequent or recurrent thoughts of death, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts or suicide Unexplained physical problems, such as back pain or headaches consult a psychiatrist and get evaluated.

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. Loosing someone dear and near causes grief. Grief leads to disappointment. Grief related disappointment manifests symptoms as in the case of depression. But disappointment symptoms are far shorter in duration than depression. These symptoms will vanish in some days or weeks. Don’t worry. Physical exercise, outdoor games, entertainment, hobbies etc could help you divert your attention. I suggest cognitive therapy. Take care.

I used to smoke 2 cigarette per day from last 4 years. From last 1 month I quit it. I have join gym but my stamina is nt enough. Even when I run I get tired within 500 mt and feel like vomiting. I want to increase my strength and stamina. As soon as possible. Can you please help.

It will take some time for stamina and strength to develop. You will need to gradually increase your exercise. When exercising you must preferably choose aerobic exercise and always breathe through your nostrils during exercise. For strength development you will need to do some weight training. If you push yourself too much, you will feel like vomiting. When you wo0rk out you must also do it in a place where the air is clean. Deep breathing techniques may be learne dthrough Yoga too.

I believe you have given some amount of detail in your description of headache, however you have not mentioned the timelines, what makes the headaches better or worse and do not indicate what kinds of stresses you have which made your doctor tell you that it is" just" that. Also I need to know if you have other medical issues and if you have used medications in the past or are using medications currently. If that is so then you need to consult a psychiatrist. Please review my profile on this website and book an appointment to consult with me over the phone or webcam. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day!

I have depression problem as to secureness of life. Earlier I was depressed that I might have heart problem. For this I took medicine xet cr plus 12. 5 mg on daily basis on recommendation of a doctor. Now somehow, I left this medicine but now I have a great fear from journey by aeroplane. I have a fear from high speed of train, car etc. I cannot travel by air. I feel negative thaughts that it will get crashed though I undesrand that it has multiple engines, it is controlled by atc. I understand that ratio of plane crashed and flight took off are very less. But I have a great fear of this. Please suggest how can I get out of this?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
You have a phobia, which is fear-based and will haunt you because you tend to exaggerate a normal stimulus and therefore there is also an abnormal reaction. You should never stop drugs prescribed by a doctor without his approval. The problem is not resolved, and all that you have done is shifted the phobia to another one. You will continue to do this until you resolve this completely. The ideal way would have been for you to have sought psychotherapy simultaneously with the medical treatment. You can still do this and combine the two to get you the best results, over time. Your mind, body and emotions are now susceptible to suggestions and you will tend to do a lot of lateral thinking to increase the threatening possibilities. You need to strengthen all three while learning to handle this fear. You will need to identify this fear as to its origin, the unhealthy pattern you have developed and the over-reaction to it. Yoga and meditation will go a long way to ease it for you. You must also do regular exercise, eat healthily, sleep well, and in therapy work with your emotions to develop balance and composure. You can also do some de-conditioning work while going through these frightful journeys with a strong parent-like figure and learn and develop the confidence and discernment that the reality is quite different from what you believe. The facts and the truth has to prevail, but like you said, you know all this but to actually experience it is like a learning lesson, and if it is repeated often enough it can completely dispel the phobia.

Hi, I cannot comment about the medical aspect of your question. You would have to seek a personal consultation with a Doctor for changing your medicine. However, seeking counselling and therapy to address the root cause of your anxieties and resulting muscle tension will help you resolve the problem itself and reduce the need for medication. Very often we give undue weightage to our negative thoughts, fears and worries which makes it difficult to cope with daily life. Effective counselling can help us to enhance our coping skills and live more productive lives without letting our fears and worries overwhelm us. Hope this helps. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, you have probably a grandiose delusion that you are a big businessman or big star or big rowdy. You feel irritated if your wife is talking on phone. You also have symptoms of depression like, no interest to brush, shave, dress or go to office. You have negative thoughts. You may be suffering from a bipolar disorder. You may be in mixed phase now. There are other medical, hormonal and few drugs/substances like alcohol, may be causing these symptoms. Please go to a psychiatrist and get diagnosed. It will be treated according to the diagnosis. Please do it soon before you lose your job and develop problems with your wife.

If I guess right, Your mother has sacrificed a lot for all of you but her expectations have not been fulfilled and she is irritable with the results she sees after all her hard work. She is more frustrated with her husband for not satisfying her needs and so is behaving in this peculiar erratic fashion. First treat her like a human being with needs. She has only been giving. Now she may want t receive too. Stop being selfish and cater to her needs. She will be back to normal.

Hello! My cousin has been diagnosed with brain tumour which isn't malignant (age-15) He finished his radiation 3 months ago. Now he's facing problems like forgetting people and forgetting what he's doing and speaking unrelatedly. Here doctors say that that's because of edema and will subside within 3-4 months. Is there anything to worry?

At this point I would suggest that you just encourage him to do memory exercises. Do questions and answers. Play games like scrabble, word games. Singing and listen to music. Writing is also good exercise. Take medicines prescribed.

I have been addicted to smoking, alcohol I tried my self to stop. But I have gone more and more addicted towards bad habits. How to cure my addiction?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Take homoeopathic medicine which will help you to get rid of your habit of smoking and it’s side-effects. Schwabe's Daphne Indica/ thrice daily for 3 months. After a month, report back to me. For quitting alcohol: Start with homoeopathic medication by Schwabe - Quercus Robur 1x/ thrice a day daily for 4 weeks. Start taking fresh, nutritive, balanced and healthy food consisting more of seasonal fruits, green vegetables, pulses, legumes, nuts, flaxseeds, 10-12 glasses of water in a day, 6-8 hrs. Of sleep daily and think healthy! Yoga Poses: -Marichyasana: It is performed by sitting in a comfortable position on the floor. Sit cross-legged on the floor and pull your right thigh towards your chest. Twist your body towards the right side. Repeat the twist on the left side. -Suryanamaskar: To begin with, hold your hands folded in front of you (as in the Indian Namaskara pose) and look at the sun. Raise your hands straight upwards in the folded position. Bend down and touch your feet. Stretch one leg outwards and arch your body backwards. Bend forward in the downward dog pose and then rest your entire body on your belly. Next, slowly lift up your torso in the cobra pose. Now, return back to the downward dog pose and all the other poses you have performed before it in the return sequence. Ultimately, you will return to the folded hands pose which you have started with. -Baddha Konasana is performed in a seated posture. Start by sitting with your legs stretched outwards. Now fold one leg and then the next, and place them with the soles of the feet in contact with each other. Remain seated in the position for as long as you can. -Balasana helps in combating alcoholism by strengthening the mind of the alcohol addict. This asana relieves mental stress and fatigue and improves blood circulation to the brain. To perform this asana, kneel down, touch the floor with your forehead and stretch out your hands in the front.
