Dear Lybrate user, you seem to be suffereing from a painful and irritable tooth condition known as "Pericoronitis" which implies the inflammation of the soft tissue cover around a partially erupted crown of a tooth (wisdom tooth/third molar). It would be prudent for you to get the tooth extracted under able supervision of an expert General Dentist or a more specialized Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. The doctor would require an X-Ray (called an Intra-Oral Peri-Apical Radiograph or may be an OPG) before deciding on the fate of the tooth. You should not delay the treatment and plan to get the tooth extracted soon after the initial infection and inflammation, considerably subside. Meanwhile do some lukewarm-saltwater mouth rinses 3-4 times/day and eat a soft and non-spicy diet. Be well!

Bad breath can b caused fue to various reasons. Due to smoking n using tobacco products, dental prob such as decay teeth, unclean tongue, gum infections, reduced saliva n dry mouth, ill fitting dentues, salivary gland probs. Other diseases n infections which also cause bad breath r sinus infections, respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis n pneumonia, liver n kidney probs, diabetes, acid reflux from stomach etc. Get scalling done by dentist. Use proper brushing techniques. Brush, floss n use mouthwash twice daily. Massage your gums with your finger tips after brushing. Keep your tongue clean. Rinse your mouth well after each meal. Get your decay teeth filled. Visit your dentist for dental checkups every 6 months to detect n prevent dental probs. Inspite of these measures if bad breath persists,

Chances are his/ her wisdom teeth is erupting. Take antibiotics and pain killers, consult a doctor for xray and then judgement whether there is enough space for eruption of that teeth. Otherwise go for removal of that tooth.

And my dentist is suggesting me to remove the wisdom teeth, next to wisdom teeth and upper teeth. wisdom tooth If the wisdom tooth has erupted fully and in a proper position then we can save it by dental cement filling. If the cavity is deep and near or into the pulp then we can save it by root canal treatment. Ideally we should save natural tooth structure if its fits in above criterias. If the wisdom teeth has erupted in a such way that it's disturbing other tooth structures and we don't have any option left for saving it then only you should go for removal. The wisdom tooth usually causes pain because of its uneven position distrubing adjacent teeth and some times swelling of the tissues around the tooth causing pericoronitis ( i.e inflamation of the surrounding soft tissues ) causing pain. Wisdom tooth which is usually considered as an extra tooth having no role in mastication (i.e chewing of food) On other hand removal of wisdom tooth have much advantages rather than any disadvantage.. Retaining wisdom tooth some times results in food lodgement within and between adjacent tooth ,results in caries ( decay ) of the adjacent tooth. So for improper erupted wisdom tooth, removal is the only and best available option to the date. Which in turn also helps in preserving other tooth structures. Jay Swaminarayan.
