Common Side Effects of Uterine Fibroids

Certification in IVF & Infertility, Diplomate Gynae Laparoscopy, Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG), MD - Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist, Ghaziabad
Common Side Effects of Uterine Fibroids

Many women develop uterine fibroids by the time they hit the age of 50 years and above. These are non-cancerous growths that may occur in the uterus. Most women go through severe bleeding and pain as well as discomfort as a result of these fibroids. Age, family history of the same condition, obesity or being overweight, eating habits and even ethnicity play a large role in deciding the risk of each individual patient. These fibroids can grow in the submucosal, intramural and subserosal areas.

Following are the common side effects of uterine fibroids:

  1. Frequent urination: Due to the pressure of the fibroids on the uterus, the patient may experience a constant feeling of fullness in the lower pelvic area of the body, which may lead to frequent filling of the bladder. This gives rise to frequent trips to the washroom for urination.
  2. Heavy Bleeding: Severe bleeding is one of the most common causes of the presence of these kinds of fibroids. The patient may experience a lot of bleeding during menstrual periods, as well as pain and cramps the rest of the time. The periods will also be very painful when there are fibroids in the uterus or the uterine lining.
  3. Painful Intercourse: It is a well-known fact that any kind of infection or growth as well as sores and other such ailments can lead to vaginal dryness as well as pain during sexual intercourse. This is true for uterine fibroids as well, which can lead to severe pain during sexual activity. These fibroids can also give rise to pain in the lumbar or lower back region.
  4. Abdomen Swelling: The abdomen may go through significant swelling in such a condition and the patient may even look like she is pregnant. The growth can push the shape of the abdomen outwards and create a full feeling.
  5. Pregnancy Complications: The presence of uterine fibroids can give rise to several complications during pregnancy and even after child birth. One of the most common problems in this case is bleeding, followed by more severe outcomes like miscarriage. The women suffering from uterine fibroids are at greater risk of undergoing a caesarean section for the delivery of the baby. The baby may also be born breech and a premature delivery may take place.
  6. Infertility: This is also a rare side effect of the uterine fibroids and is generally seen only in very severe cases.
  7. Cancer: Only one in every 1000 cases might transform into malignant tumours. These uterine fibroids are generally known to be non-malignant.

Any symptoms must be reported to a gynaecologist at the earliest to avoid any serious complications.

There are several things you can do to prevent a cold. they are all easy. -Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. -Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. -Get plenty of rest/sleep.staying at home will keep you from spreading germs.Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. -Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts/boiled eggs without yolk with milk). Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can impair your sleep -Treatment:A cold usually lasts for a week or two. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn't need medical treatment. -Complications like infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs must be treated with antibiotics. -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily

Hello sir. I have the cough problem from last few week. But different thing is that sometime cough is having small black black dots. Thats why I am too much problem. I am sometime smoking.

MBBS, MD - Consultant Physician
General Physician, Ghaziabad
Hello welcome to lybrate. We are here to help you. You seem to be suffering allergic cough due to smoking, also known as smoker's cough. I would advise in such scenario to get: 1. Hemogram with esr 2. Ecg 3. Chest xray if the chest xray and these blood investigations show no sign of infection then, you would be treated for allergic cough. Initially you would be treated with a combination of levocetrizine and montelukast. But your doctor will examine your chest for any wheezes/spasm. In such scenario, your doctor would prescribe you inhalers containing bronchi dilators like salbutamol. You might also require short dose of steroid inhaler like budenoside. Share my opinion with your doctor before acting upon it. I hope it helps. Stay healthy.

My mother was suffering from severe cough for last 10 days, allopathic medicine is not working, she is diabetic patient, please prescribe any medicines.

BHMS
Homeopath, Raebareli
Please give her Bryonia 30 - thrice daily 4 pills if the cough is caused by cold exposure. If there is tonsillitis things would be different. Do a chest x-ray. If this is due to fumes/gas-smoke that needs to be avoided. Give a little ginger a slice to be kept in mouth and chew very slowly.

BHMS

Is Homeopathy The Best Option To Treat Asthma?

Before we get to learning whether homoeopathy is the best treatment for asthma, it is important that we learn what asthma is. Asthma is predominantly a condition that influences the functioning of your lung and affects its overall health. The major result of asthma in patients, adults and children are alike. Patients with asthma are stricken with attacks that cause breathing problem. Proper treatment and homoeopathic medication can cure asthma like you never had it before.

Homeopathic Treatment for Asthma:
Though there are a variety of medications and treatments that promise to help you deal with asthma, there is no certain treatment that helps in curing it for once and for all. Here is where homoeopathic treatment and homoeopathic specialists step in. Homeopathy is the only stream of medicine that is equipped to deal with asthma and cure it a 100%. The recurrence of the attacks caused by Asthma can not only affect the general health of a patient but also affects the quality of life they lead. Sudden Asthma attacks can lead to some unfavourable situations, such as-

  1. Hospitalization
  2. Severe weakness
  3. Deadly health hazards
  4. Chances of severe injury, etc.

Research shows that Homeopathic treatment comes in as a relief or a preventing measure to all of these unfavourable occurrences caused by asthma.

Does Homeopathy Really Heal Asthma?
The following advantages of homoeopathic treatment help prove why homoeopathy is the best cure for asthma

  1. Homeopathic Constitutional Treatment not only prevents these extremities mentioned above but also slowly and steadily works on curing the condition completely.
  2. The same treatment procedure, allows a specialist to understand the severity of the condition, and thus prescribe the best natural homoeopathic medicines to treat asthma.
  3. The medicines prescribed by a homoeopathic specialist are all natural and work towards curing asthma permanently by moderating the functioning and quality of your immune system.
  4. This ensures the stabilisation of the immune system that becomes over-reactive during asthma.

According to years of research and treatment records, Homeopathy does help to heal asthma completely.

Medication and Treatment Extended by Homeopathy:
Homoeopathic medicines are all natural and pose no side effects to any patients. Since there are a variety of asthmas, the medicines used to deal with each kind also vary. Again, there are a few homoeopathic medicines that are designed to treat and permanently heal one and all kinds of asthmas. There are some these medicines that are prescribed by some of the best Homoeopathic specialists to their patients with asthma.

Some of these homoeopathic medicines include

  1. Natrum Sulph
  2. Sambuccus
  3. Arsenic Album
  4. Kali Bichrome

While these can be termed as some of the most widely accepted and prescribed homoeopathic medicines for Asthma, they are not the only ones. There are also other medicines that are put to use. The prescribed medicine can differ in accordance with the intensity and kind of asthma that an individual is dealing with. Here is where it becomes important to visit a specialist homoeopathic doctor and take his consultancy and not depend on own intuitions and preferences. Cure asthma permanently with homoeopathy.

What medications are best for the treatment of asthma? What are their side effects?

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Bronchitis/ Asthma can be treated with homoeopathic medicines completely, only need to be regular with the medication and avoid those foods/ things to which you are allergic to for sometime. Keep taking your already on going medication, reduce it gradually and slowly once homoeopathic starts acting. Take Bakson's Astha-Aid drops/ 10-15 drops in 1/2 cup water/ thrice d day for 1 month. Report me back after a month.

Can I get HIV from casual contact (shaking hands, hugging, using a toilet, drinking from the same glass, or the sneezing and coughing of an infected person)?

No casual contact does not cause spread of hiv. It can spreads if one's body's raw area or mucousal areas come in contact with infected body fluids.

Hello I am from dhaka, bangladesh. My mother (54 years) was diagnosed with lung cancer 4th stage (metastatic adenocarcinoma) one month ago. She was going through dry cough for like 3 months so further investigation like biopsy confirmed it's lung cancer. But we didn't rely on our country's (bangladesh) report. So we went to apollo specialty hospital, chennai, india an ran pet ct scan followed by tapping as she had fluid in her lungs and then again biopsy. This time during the biopsy, my mother caught pneumothorax. So the doctor admitted her to emergency and inserted a tube in her backside. They called it drainage system. This will let the fluid come out of her lungs along with air that entered through pneunothorax. They kept the tube for 3/4 days and then released it. Now the doctor asked to do the chemotherapy. I get scared whenever I hear about chemotherapy. Is it the only way out? will this chemotherapy be effective for a long time? I did few researches over internet about the survival rate of lung cancer patient and it seems to be very low. Now I will write you the comments of pet ct scan and biopsy. 1. Pet ct scan: a) hypermetabolic primary mass in lingula b) hypermetabolic pleural metastases with effusion in left hemithorax. C) hypermetabolic metastatic paraaortic with non fdg avid left hilar nodes. D) no other demonstrable metabolically active disease in whole body survey. F) imaging is suggestive of bronchogenic malignancy in lingula segment of left lung with nodal and pleural metastases (t2an2m1a- stage iv) 2. Biopsy report: a) biopsy from left lung mass: consistent with adenocarcinoma, grade ii: ct guidedbiopsy from left lung mass. So what do you think, is it controllable? it is very worse? I want her to live. What kind of chemotherapy would you suggest? apart from chemo, is there any other way to treat or control it along with the chemo? I heard there is some drug called terceva. Internet says it treated their fourth stage cancer. I don't know but I am seeking your help regarding this

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist, Howrah
Thanks for providing good patient profile. From your reports, the only site of distant metastasis is paraaortic lymph nodes. Yes you are right that stage iv lung cancer has a poor prognosis. However a certain subpopulation of these patients still have a chance of favorable outcome. However this depends on number of things 1. Histology (adenocarcinoma favorable) 2. General condition of patient (performance status) 3. Presence of egfr mutations (favorable prognosis) 4. Absence of solid organ involvement (good prognosis). So egfr mutation study is next step. You have also asked any alternative option to chemotherapy. Yes there is a option. That is erlotinib (tarceva). But the tumor has to be egfr positive. Erlotinib is now recommended for egfr positive metastasic adenocarcinoma of lung (without any concomitant chemotherapy) until progression of the disease.

Get a ct scan done bcz this may be due to either recurrence of disease or post operative adhesion formation in the nose.

I am 54 years old. From past 4-5 years I am getting dry cough. I got done all the tests and nothing positive. Suddenly I cough for few minutes and it will stop. But I feel exhausted after coughing so much.

DAA, DNB
Pulmonologist, Bangalore
Hi. I understand your concerns. Your cough may be due to allergy. You will need to undergo pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis and also to assess severity of asthma based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same. You will benefit from inhalers. Hope your questions were answered. Thanks.
