Normally I breathe through only one nostril only. If one nostril opens then the other one automatically become blocked. The problem is transfers to other nostril automatically and no problem with unblocked nostril. Is it a problem or it is general health condition?

Diploma in Hospital Administration, MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Cases of blockage of nostril area stuffy or runny nose, mucus buildup, swollen nasal tissues, allergies, nasal polyps (noncancerous growths on the nasal passages or sinuses caused by inflammation of those areas), chronic sinusitis (a long-lasting sinus infection),tumors (usually benign, or noncancerous, masses that can cause congestion if they grow in the nasal passages), a deviated septum (the structure that separates the two sides of the nose is not located in the middle of the nose) Home remedies: Humidifiers that add moisture to the air may help to break up mucus and to soothe inflamed nasal passageways. However, if you have asthma, ask your doctor before using a humidifier. Propping your head up on pillows can also encourage mucus to flow out of your nasal passages. If right nostril is blocked, then sleep on your left lateral position.

I am suffering from cold and cough from the past 10 days. I had also taken medicine. But there is no relief Tell me what should I do?

MBBS, cc USG
General Physician, Gurgaon
If symptoms are sneezing, running nose, blocked nose 1. Take proper rest/ lot of fluids 2. Take proper home made diet. 3. Steam inhalation carefully by steam inhaler twice a day for 2-3 days frequent/ continuous cough cold may be because of many reasons like: 1. Any ENT problem like DNS polyp sinusitis 2. Low immunity 3. Allergic condition so you need to consult ENT doctor for proper examination and further management.

I m 21 years of age. I suffer from asthma which affects seasonally. Also I suffer from certain allergies like dust, spices, smell from walls pf old houses. Is there any permanent treatment for allergy suffering. Please guide.

BHMS
Homeopath, Faridabad
Hi. Yes. There is permanent cure of asthma in homoeopathy! Asthma is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Medication: Bronchitis/ Asthma can be treated with homoeopathic medicines completely, only need to be regular with the medication and avoid those foods/ things to which you are allergic to for the time being. Keep taking your already on going medication, reduce it gradually and slowly once homoeopathic starts acting. Take Bakson's Astha-Aid drops/ 10-15 drops in 1/2 cup water/ thrice d day for 1 month. Report me back after a month.

When I got suffered from cough it would last long for at least 1 month, how can I get rid from the problem.

B H M S, MD
Homeopath, Thrissur
Cough lasting for one month is not a ordinary cough followed by viral cold. Do not take it light nazim. It has to be investigated for cause with blood analysis, total eosinophil count along with cxr (xray) to confirm the diagnosis and proper ethical treatment.

Dear sir I am 25 years old I have tonsils problem. My nose is closed from 5 month I cannot take breath easily. Can yiu guide me please. I am waiting for your good and helpful advise. Thanks.

M S, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Gurgaon
Dear Imran I would give preference to nose compared to tonsils as most of the tonsil infections are easily curable. My first advice is to get yourself examined thoroughly. If nothing conclusive appears on examination, then CT scan if nose and paranasal sinuses will be the next step.

Hi, sore throat is usually accompanied by pain. Here are a few steps that you may follow in general to cure and prevent getting sore throat. Try avoiding constipation at all costs. (a) healthy & balanced diet with focus on fresh fruits/ leafy greens. Avoid yellow banana. (b) consume flesh foods in moderation. (c) take plenty of water daily and stay hydrated. (d) regularize life style, reduce stress/ strain and stay relaxed. (e) protect yourself from intense heat/ cold air. (f) do not take extremely hot/ cold/ spicy/ sour drinks as well as foods. (g) warm saline gargling 2 - 3 times daily. (h) gargle made of tulsi, cinnamon, turmeric or fenugreek seeds and honey are also beneficial. (i) avoid overcrowded places. (j) take a glass of warm filtered water to which a pinch of turmeric and a tsp of fresh honey is added properly, twice daily after food. Hope this helps.
