I'm currently studying engineering in one of the reputed colleges of Karnataka. I was toped my pu clg with marks of 587/600. Now I can't control myself like whenever I start to study, within some minutes, I loss my concentration towards studies, because of that i'm performing well. The result that im getting is more lesser than I expected, so can any one assist me what I could do to change myself?

MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Hi lybrate-user, It’s the thing with almost every second student – I can’t concentrate! As they sit down to study, their mind races from one thing to another and their thoughts get scattered all over the place except studies. Firstly, we all should know that each one of us has the ability to concentrate and we just need to apply the right strategies to unlock our natural capability of concentrating and apply them while studying. If a student does not allow the mind to go haywire, concentration can lead to productive study. Create an Environment for Studying, Create a Schedule, Take Ample Sleep, Exercise Regularly, Avoid Multi-tasking While Studying, Study with a Free Mind, Fix Priorities, Take Breaks, Eat Healthy & Meditate. Good Luck.

You should talk about your burdens and problems but only with a few people you trust. Make sure to converse with people on neutral topics rather than on personal ones. Make sure to evaluate your thoughts before you put them in words.

You should not neglect this condition any more. Please visit a counselor immediately and if that person advises that you meet with a doctor please do so without any hesitation. Even if you are put on any medication, do not discontinue the counseling. This condition and the symptoms you mention and the duration of this situation is not reading well at all. The condition has to be diagnosed and then a treatment plan will be put in place. You must cooperate with all the prescriptions right through the follow-up. Do not depend on medication alone but keep working with the counselor to develop some skills and techniques to cope with your condition and to deal with the daily challenges of life. The anger accompanies such disturbances and you will need to do some emotional therapy too. Handling feelings and expressing them in appropriate ways is going to be a great help for your recovery. Regular exercise, proper rest and a healthy diet must be a part of your daily life.

Hi lybrate-user! Actually speaking ask your mum take some multivitamins consisting of Iron and calcium. It happens mostly to ladies at this age because of bone weakness like osteoporosis and many other causes. So age also matters, so she needs to take lots of nutritious food, fruits, vegetables and greens. Yoga also helps to cure back ache and leg tightness, you can teach her if you know yoga exercise, which would definitely help your mother overcome this problem. So tell her it is not related to paralysis. Take care of your mom.

How Hypnotherapy Helps To Deal With Fear And Phobias?

MBA (HR), D.Sc, MS - Counselling & Psychotherapy, M.Sc - Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Pune
How Hypnotherapy Helps To Deal With Fear And Phobias?

Jumping at the sight of a cockroach is normal, but some people won't even step into the room if they see one. Such people are said to suffer from a phobia of cockroaches. A phobia can be defined as the irrational fear of an object or situation, though it may not pose any real danger. A phobia often develops during childhood and gets aggravated as the person gets older.

Hypnotherapy has proven to be an effective form of treatment for phobias and fear. Hypnosis identifies the root cause or event that is the underlying cause of the phobia. A Hypnotherapist then attempts to change the person's reaction to the phobia trigger.

Some common phobias Hypnotherapists deal with are:

  • Fear of heights
  • Claustrophobia
  • Fear of insects and small animals
  • Fear of flying
  • Fear of technology

To do this a Hypnotherapist must ensure that the mind of the person is in a calm and relax state. This is because the root cause of a phobia is often a repressed memory. Thus, it can be accessed only when a person is in a state of heightened relaxation or trance. In this state, the mind is very receptive to suggestions. Once the memory has been addressed, it can be brought back to the conscious awareness. Addressing this conscious memory allows the therapist to make the patient feel less threatened by this trigger. The patient can then begin to form new thoughts and responses to the object or situation. This process is also known as Hypnotic regression.

A person normally needs 3-4 sessions of Hypnotherapy to be rid of a phobia. However, the number of sessions required varies from person to person and it may take additional sessions to cure a chronic phobia.

No. of sessions required depends on a number of factors such as:

  • How long the person has had the said phobia
  • His personality
  • How severely his life is affected by the phobia
  • How determined he is to free himself of the phobia

When you decide to work with a Hypnotherapist to get rid of your phobias, it is essential that you make the right choice in terms of the Hypnotherapist. You should ensure that you are being treated by a licensed professional Hypnotherapist. Also, make sure that you can trust the person and are comfortable in his or her presence. Take your time finding someone who you can open yourself up to and get started on conquering your fears.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hi, welcome to lybrate. What you have is more of performance anxiety during sex. I need to understand the thoughts you have while you are getting intimate with someone. Whenever these kinds of anxious thoughts and feelings become attached to sex and performance, the body releases stress hormones that can interfere with sexual arousal and performance. This failure to perform can cause even greater anxiety, resulting in a vicious circle. Knowing how to break the cycle of sexual performance anxiety can help both partners have a healthier sex life and a happier relationship. Take a moment to focus on your breathing before initiating sex. Use that time to clear your head of any thoughts that might distract you or cause you additional anxiety. If you find it impossible to let go of the stresses from that day, try having sex on a less-stressful day instead. Trying and failing when you can't clear your mind will only cause further stress and anxiety. It may also help to meditate before having sex as meditation is known to alleviate anxiety. Enjoy every sensation you are having with your partner, and communicate throughout the experience with your partner. Communication can help alleviate a lot of anxiety and ensure both you and your partner are comfortable throughout the experience. Focus should be on your partner not on yourself.

What are habits that overcome depression. I am non alcoholic, non smoker, vegetarian.

What are habits that overcome depression. I am non alcoholic, non smoker, vegetarian.
Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Pedophilia - 8 Quick Facts About It!

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Bhopal
Pedophilia - 8 Quick Facts About It!

Pedophilia is an unnatural or abnormal attraction towards children of either or both sexes, usually aged thirteen years or younger. A pedophile's attraction towards adults varies. They fantasize and/or act on their fantasies with children who have not reached puberty. Pedophilia is one of the most common paraphilia (abnormal sexual desires). The DSM i. E. Diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders has included pedophilia as a mental disorder.

Here are a few facts about the disorder:

1. Pedophilic disorder is when pedophiles approach children to sexually gratify themselves or if desires towards children make them feel guilty and anxious and so, they alienate themselves from the society and are unable to achieve their personal goals.

2. One very important fact that one must keep in mind is that not all pedophiles molest children and not all child molesters are pedophiles. When one desires children, they are pedophilic. But only when they act on their desires, and sexually assault children, they are child molesters.

3. Since most pedophiles do not come forward or admit to having sexual desires towards children, most of the studies have been conducted on the pedophilic child molesters. However, the number of pedophiles is vast considering that there are about 4 million websites in business catering to child pornography.

4. Opening up and seeking help from a psychologist or psychiatrist might help them in curbing and managing these desires and prevent them from acting on them and committing sexual offenses. In rare cases, pedophiles are also prescribed medications to lower their sex drive.

5. Male pedophiles are far more common than female ones.

6. Most of the child sex offenders are family and relatives.

7. Psychologists believe that children who are lonely and aloof, and feel neglected are at a higher risk of being sexually abused. The type of activities differs in each case, while some just undress and look at a child, others force the child to take part and perform oral sex and/or touch the genitals or more.

8. In most countries, it is mandatory to report a pedophile to the authorities even when there is no risk, which is why most pedophiles do not come forward and admit having this disorder. They refrain from seeking help.

However, there is a prevention project dunkelfeld in Germany that provides free of cost services to people who are attracted to children, but are dedicated to not to act on their desires and molest children. This program maintains its members' confidentiality. Such programs are essential for a healthy society.

Sir I used to have sharp memory but now a days I think that I forget whatever I study instantly. N I am studying. So what should I do for increasing my memory.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
7 Ways to Remember Anything Research-based strategies to boost your memory and keep it strong 7 Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical.. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

My problem is going on for around 6 months. I went to a neurologist with problems of body ache, insomnia and anxiety. He suggested me meds like lonazep and test of vitamin B12 and vitamin D. I took these meds and got the tests done three months after when the problem came up again. In the tests my vit d came as low as 7 and b12 was borderline. I went to a physician who prescribed cap lumia, once a week, shelcal everyday for three months and Matilda forte for a month. Along with this I had heaviness/burning mild pain in the right side of my stomach you see the ribs which went till back. For this he got ultrasound done which had everything normal but there was a mild fatty liver. After s few days of this I got throat infection and fever for which I got antibiotics and got ok. Now the problem is that the burning pain which goes in between is still there but is mild though. I sprained my knee so am going to an ortho who says its a ligament injury. But also have popping sound coming from my joints, I still have anxiety and insomnia. And also some rashes have come on my body last week small bumps which are itchy. Could these be because of medicines? I even got an HIV test done which was non-reactive- And I feel really very low on energy and mood. I have been seeing different docs for sometime like I said, a neurologist, physician, and two different ortho and have gone through many tests. Have also lost 2.5 kgs of weight. Which I don't mind as I am over weight. What do you think could be the problem or is suggested?

Dear Lybrate user. You have described the symptoms suggestive of anxiety, somatic problems and paresthesias like burning sensations, insomnia and some depressive features. These are some common combination of problems in one's life in today's world full of stress. You should practice stress management techniques and also there are very good medications to treat your symptom combination. Take the right step to inquire with a psychiatrist. Take care.
