It may or may not be related to bipolar disorder. Homoeopathy is wonderful in treating such chronic, repetitive complaints More details like your family history, past history, thermals, thirst, desires aversions, attitudes is required to make a prescription especially in a chronic case such as yours. Consult in private with the above details. More questions may be asked if required. Ask him to 1. Drink plenty of fluids. 2. Cover up before going out in the sun. 3. Sleep for at least 7 hours. 4. Meditation. 5. Avoid loud music. 6. Don't drink extremely cold drinks. For medication consult online in private.

Hello sir, my age is 23 I'm doing b-tech. Sir I'm always in depression that will I do this, always negative thoughts .due to this my bp is150-105. So sir how could I cure my depression?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Guwahati
Hello sir, my age is 23 I'm doing b-tech. Sir I'm always in depression that will I do this, always negative thoughts ...
Depression is a state in which a person: •Feels low or sad most of the time. •Losses interest in things one liked or enjoyed previously. •May feel helpless, unworthy, hopeless, empty, irritable or may feel guilty for no reason. •May see the whole world negative with pessimistic thoughts coming to the mind, sometimes to extent of having suicidal tendencies. •May experience loss of appetite with weight loss or may overeat with weight gain. •Have problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions. •May experience relationship difficulties. •May have reduced sleep or may sleep excessively. •May have various physical problems like fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy all the time which are usually not relieved even after treatment. •May have loss of emotional expression. Depression may be the result of some stressful life events or may be due to various physical conditions like thyroid or endocrinal disorders, number of infectious diseases, nutritional deficiencies, neurological conditions, diabetes etc. There is treatment available for depression & other Psychiatric disorders, in the form of medicines & counseling. The high BP you are suffering from may be precipitated by your present mental state or it may an independent disease. So before attributing it to Depression, get yourself evaluated by a physician to rule out any underlying physical illnesses. & if any other illness detected, it should be treated accordingly. Also get yourself evaluated by a Psychiatrist, who will make your proper diagnosis regarding whether you are suffering from depression or some other condition, & then you will be prescribed medicines or advised counseling sessions accordingly. Along with, take the following measures: •Try to lead an active life & maintain a healthy lifestyle. Go for a walk, exercise regularly, do some yoga or relaxation techniques daily. •Pursue your hobbies or keep a pet. •Set goals which are realistic & within your capability & try to pursue them. •Try to be contented with what is in hand. Over expectation is usually harmful. •Do not spend time alone. Spend time with friends, family members or well wishers with whom you feel comfortable & positive. •Read motivational books & quotes. •Spend some time daily recollecting the good moments in your life. •Try to evaluate things practically & rationally. •Avoid people who spreads negativity or demoralize you. •Avoid watching or reading mind disturbing things like violence, crime, horrors etc. •Maintain a daily routine. •Every day spend some time with nature & try to feel its beauty. •Stay away from substance of abuse like alcohol, cannabis, inhalants, drugs etc. •If any problem is there in your life, put your maximum effort & try to solve it. Work to enhance your problem solving skills & coping skills. If you are not able to solve any problem yourself, discuss about it with a well wisher or take professional help. •Keep reminding yourself the fact that people with bigger problems exist in this world. Then your problem will seem trivial. •Read or watch comedies & laugh to your fullest. •Above all, keep reminding yourself that life is precious & one is gifted with this life for once only. Every moment, every day is precious & life once lost can never be regained back.

How to Manage Compulsive Sexual Behaviour?

Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, United Kingdom (MRC Psych), MD - Psychiatry, MBBS

How to Manage Compulsive Sexual Behaviour?

One of the emerging psychiatric disorder that has significant medical and psychiatric consequences is compulsive sexual behaviour or hypersexuality, is an obsession with sexual thoughts in which people cannot manage their sexual behaviour. It may involve a commonly enjoyable sexual experience as self-stimulation which becomes an obsession. The person suffering from the condition may also get involved in sexual behaviours that are outside the bounds of commonly accepted conduct like paying for sex or having extramarital affairs.

Untreated compulsive sexual behaviour damages one’s self-esteem, health, job, relationships and career. However, with treatment and self-help, one can manage compulsive sexual behaviour and learn to manage one’s urge. Males are more likely to be unfaithful than females because they have stronger sexual impulses and weaker self-control. Compulsive sexual behaviour symptoms vary in type and severity. During intense sexual impulses, one feels as if they're beyond control. This is the first and the most common symptom as the patient uses compulsive sexual behaviour as an escape route for problems like loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress. One has trouble establishing and maintaining emotional closeness, even if one is married or in a committed relationship.

The treatment for compulsive sexual behaviour involves psychotherapy and medications. A primary goal of treatment is to help one manage urges and reduce excessive behaviours while maintaining healthy sexual activities. If one has compulsive sexual behaviour, one may need treatment for mental health condition. People with compulsive sexual behaviour often have alcohol or drug abuse problems or a mood disorder such as depression.

Counselling sessions can help one learn how to manage one’s compulsive sexual behaviour. Intensive treatment programs for compulsive sexual behaviours focus on identification of core triggers and beliefs about sexual addiction. It assists in development of healthier choices and coping skills to minimize urges and deal with the preoccupation of sexual addiction. Psychodynamic psychotherapy can prove to be very useful as it focuses on increasing one’s awareness of unconscious thoughts and behaviours, and developing new insights into their motivations. Resolving conflicts using this therapy is also recommended. The other kind of treatment program is cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps one to identify unhealthy, negative beliefs and behaviours and replace them with healthy, positive ones. Family therapy and couples therapy may restore trust, minimize shame and guilt thus establishing a healthy sexual relationship between partners.

Medications include anti-depressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, mood stabilizers and anti-androgens have also been used to treat compulsive sexual behaviour. Anti-androgens are prescribed as it reduces the biological effects of sex hormones in men thus reducing sexual urges. Luteinizing hormone is also prescribed as it reduces obsessive sexual thoughts by reducing the production of testosterone. Anti-seizure medications, naltrexone, and medications which decrease male hormones have been found to decrease the compulsive urges and impulses associated with sexual addictions for some sufferers. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Dear Doctor, I am a CA student. In the examination days I feel some kind of heavy tension. I checked with a doctor. He told me that my blood pressure is not normal. If I am so tensed my eyes and face become reddish. I need to confirm whether it is due hypertension or any other issues? With which specialist I must consult? Thanks in advance.

Dear lybrate-user Looking at the limited symptoms mentioned by you, it could potentially be panic attacks or anxiety disorder as well so you should review with a psychiatrist or psychologist and confirm diagnosis based on which further detailed intervention can be planned. Panic attacks are anxiety disorders amd because you mentioned Tension in some format, it might activate our sympathetic nervous system which increases our BP, heart rate, respiratory rate, dilation of pupils, problems related to digestion etc. Hence, we would have to evaluate and decide the intervention. Hope this is useful.

I am 16 years old. My passion is fashion designing but my parents want me to become a doctor. I have scored 95% in 10th board exams. I want to fulfill their dreams but I am not able to concentrate on studies. Unnecessary and illogical thoughts continuously come in my mind. What should I do?

You need to make a bold decision and opt for the subjects you're interested in only! taking science if you're not interested in it will not help you fulfill your parents' dreams because you will not be able to do well. (the result is already in front of you - losing concentration/focus.) being" successful" requires one to follow their passion, not just try to live someone else's life! good luck.

The medication you took does not cause any such side effects. But if you still feel uneasy and not comfortable taking these medicines, you may stop taking them. Most of then are vitamin b group vitamins and do to remain in body for more than 3-4 days.
