I sleep for more than 8 hours but still get heaviness in the head when I wake up. Please suggest.

MBBS
General Physician, Trivandrum
I sleep for more than 8 hours but still get heaviness in the head when I wake up.
Please suggest.
Follow these simple steps to ensure a good sleep every night and stay away from sleep disorders and other health problems associated with unhealthy sleep habits: 1) maintain a regular sleep routine - try to get at least 6 to 7 hours of uninteruppted sleep at night time Go to bed at the same time. Wake up at the same time. Ideally, your schedule will remain the same (+/- 20 minutes) every Night of the week. A good sleep hygiene routine promotes healthy sleep and daytime alertness. 2) avoid sleeping during the daytime. It can disturb the normal pattern. 3) avoid caffeine, nicotine, and alcohol near bedtime. While alcohol may speed the onset of sleep, it creates problems in he second half of sleep. 4) exercise can promote good sleep. Exercise should be taken in the morning or late afternoon. Yoga, can be done before bed to help. 5) have a quiet, comfortable bedroom. Set your bedroom thermostat at a comfortable temperature. Generally, a little cooler is better than a little warmer. Turn off the tv and other extraneous noise that may disrupt sleep. Background 'white noise' like a fan is ok. If your pets awaken you, keep them outside the bedroom. Your bedroom should be dark. Turn off bright lights. Have a comfortable mattress. 6) avoid heavy meals close to bedtime. 7) ensure adequate exposure to natural light. 8) avoid emotionally upsetting conversations and activities before trying to go to sleep. Do not think of, or bring your problems to bed. 9) stop using all your digital devices and stop looking at digital screens be it mobile phones or televisions at least 1 hour before the time you plan to sleep. Instead try reading a fiction book near bedtime so it makes you help relaxed and de-stressed. Sleep well live healthy and live longer. If you have tried all these and still have problems, please consult me for prescription medication.

DGO, MBBS
Sexologist,
I am suffering from hypogonadism due to masturbation, since last few year, but I, m get rid.
What should I do?
Help pls.
Masturbation is normal and does not cause physical problems or sexual problems. Also it does not cause hypogonadism. Have you tested serum testosterone levels, how do you know you have hypogonadism? if you want to reduce masturbation, you should involve yourself in studies, games and hobbies. Also try not to remain alone most of time and avoid porn.

I have been told that I am putting on weight as my BMR is low. I have a sedentary job. Is there some medicine I can take so as to increase my BMR? Is it true that deficiency of Vitamin-D can lead to weight gain?

M.B;B.S, P.G.(FAMILY MEDICINE), D.O.H.
General Physician, Hyderabad
You go for brisk morning walk for 45 minutes daily, as your job is sedentary. This is the remedy for most of the medical conditions. This will automatically increase your BMR Sedentary job +high fatty diet+lack of exercise+hypothyroid may lead to obesity. Vitamin-d deficiency do not lead to over weight.

Hello lybrate user, the symptoms you are describing are similar to what we call claudication. In common language, it is development of symptoms of pain etc in the lower limbs after one does some previously accustomed activity ie one was able to do those activities easily but are causing symptoms now. It occurs due two causes. Firstly, vascular problem causing decreased blood supply to the muscles of the lower limb which is now inadequate to maintain the demands of the muscle while doing activity. Secondly, neurological problem in which there is stenosis in the spinal canal which transmit the nerves from brain to the lower limbs. This stenosis causes decreased space for the nerves and their vessels causing pain in the lower limbs. With the details you have provided, and your profile, it looks more like a spinal canal stenosis. I would suggest you to see a spine surgeon or an orthopaedician for a detailed assessment. I would also suggest you forward bending exercises and exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles. Hope this helps.

I am 19 year old girl. I had sex with my partner from 6th aug to 10th aug and we used to withdrawal method and sometimes without condom but on 8th august we had sex and he ejaculated sperm inside then I take i-pill in approx 10 hours after that we had sex with condom only and previous month I had periods from 21july-26july but today is 29th aug I am very much worried about my periods are not coming please help me out from this that what to do should I wait or what? And why all this happening?

Diploma in Anesthesia, MBBS
General Physician, Hyderabad
Withdrawal method is most unreliable should not be used in your situation meaning premarital sex and all. At this stage you can only wait till 45 th day of your previous period and get pregnancy test done. Basing on the result you have to act. Question of why all this happening is absured, having perfromed some action, you expect the body not to react? So donot panick, wait till the pregnancy report and for every thing there is a solution. Good luck.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. But there is no miracle drugs or creams which can help you grow facial hair. You can look around you. There are many like you. Facial growth is partially genetic. You don't see your parent and grandfather at their old age. Ask them at what age they had their thick mustache. You will understand. This is normal. Don't waste your time behind such unnecessary thoughts. Take care.

It's a sleeping disorder, because of mental stress. Try to avoid stress, start meditation and yoga, you need some counselling sessions with homoeopathic medication. Temporary relief - passiflora - q, 10 drops in half cup of water, 2 times a day.

How do we know that a patient on mechanical ventilator is breathing himself /herself.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Hmm. Good question. It will be difficult for a lay man to evaluate that. Because ventilators have different settings. If the patient is conscious and is able to cough then probably he is breathing on it's own. But I am guessing that you would like to know in case of an unconscious person on ventilator. Most patients on ventilators would be on SIMV setting. In whic h a ceratin amount of respirations are set to be given/assisted by the ventilators and rest the patient takes himself. So ask your doctor for the set respiratory rate insimv mode and count the patient's respiration yourself. For eg if your doctor says that that the set rest rate is 12 and you count the patuient's resp rate as 16 then the patient is taking atlest 4 breaths on his or her own. In assist control mode almost every braeth is assisted by rthe ventilator so it is difficult to assess by alay person. If the mode is cpap then every breath being taken is being initiated by the patient. To summarise ask you doctor the mode of ventilator setting, ACM or BIPAP or CPAP. It is difficult to tell inACMV mode. Follow the above example in SIMV mode if in CPAPmode then your patient is definitely breathing by himself. Hope it helps.

My age is 20 my penis size is 3 inch ,Erect size is 4 inch. I can I do sex this size, girl enjoy ha this size la.

MBBS
General Physician, Cuttack
My age is 20 my penis size is 3 inch ,Erect size is 4 inch. I can I do sex this size, girl enjoy ha this size la.
1 Normal size of penis in flaccid stage varies from 2. 8 inch to3. 9 inch with average length of 3.5 inch in length 2. Normal size in erect state varies from 4.7 inch to6. 3 inch with average length of 5.1 inch. 3.A person is said to have micro penis when erect length is less than 2.8 inch. 4.Penis Augmentation by vacum therapy/ injection/surgery is considered when erect length is 2.8 inch. 5.Consult sexologist for advice 6.Size of penis is not relevant for a satisfying sex since the inner sensitive area of vagina is only 2 inch. So size of penis more than 2 inch can satisfy woman.
