Heart palpitations are a feeling that your heart is beating too hard or too fast, skipping a beat, or fluttering. You may notice heart palpitations in your chest, throat, or neck. Heart palpitations can be bothersome or frightening. They usually aren't serious or harmful, though, and often go away on their own. Most of the time, they're related to stress and anxiety or to consumption of stimulants such as caffeine, nicotine, or alcohol. Palpitations also often occur during pregnancy. According to my knowledge you are suffering from LACK of SELF CONFIDENCE and it is usual in this case that heart palpate at a faster rate when to interact with an unknown person .So for this I will advise you to go for counselling sessions along with homoeopathic treatment recommended by me for better results.

Dear lybrateuser, - If you are suffering from cardiac problem then do investigations, ECG x-ray chest, echo, blood hb%, sugar, cholesterol - tachycardia is when the heart rate at rest is above 100/ min - doing exercise will raise your heart rate which is normal, it should come back to normal after rest - it can become normal as you regularly exercise, start slowly then gradually increase your time & intensity if you are comfortable, consult your doctor .

Symptoms of High Blood Pressure
============================
High blood pressure can remain undiagnosed for years, because most people don't experience significant symptoms. Occasionally, some people with hypertension may have headaches, dizziness, or nosebleeds, but in most cases, hypertension goes undetected. This is why hypertension is known as “the Silent Killer.” When blood is flowing to body organs at elevated pressures, changes occur in your blood vessels that can result in damage to the eyes, kidneys, and other organs.
What Is Hypertension
If hypertension remains unrecognized, medical complications occur that could often be prevented with early treatment and good blood pressure control.

Measuring Your Blood Pressure

The only accurate way to determine whether or not you have hypertension is by measurement of your blood pressure. The diagnosis of hypertension is usually made after three elevated readings have been obtained, so when you measure your blood pressure, you should be aware of things that can cause a temporary rise in your numbers. Some things that can elevate your blood pressure include:

Smoking
Exercise
Caffeine
Stress
Cold temperatures
Some medications
“White Coat Hypertension”

“White Coat Hypertension” refers to the increase in blood pressure you may experience when visiting your doctor. Often, your doctor will wait until you’ve settled into your visit to repeat measurement of an initially high blood pressure reading. Smoking and caffeine constrict your arteries, which results in elevated blood pressure measurement.
Your sympathetic nervous system reacts to exercise and stress by redistributing blood flow, which can also alter your blood pressure. You should measure your blood pressure at the same time each day, to get a consistent reading.

Hi my cousin is suffering from pimples. His chest and back has some pimples like. Please tell.

MBBS

Hi my cousin is suffering from pimples. His chest and back has some pimples like. Please tell.
Dear lybrateuser, -to avoid pimples one has to keep the skin surface clean so that the pores on the skin surface remain open as blocked pores lead to pimples, this can be done by having a warm water bath after sweating -use 1-2% salicylic acid lotion on the affected parts, clean with warm water, dry for 5-10 min, then apply lightly, can apply cream also, do not rub it off -avoid stress as the hormones released during stress give rise to pimples -restrict spicy, fried & junk food, have more of fruits & vegetables & 8-10 glasses of water for a healthy skin, also avoid direct exposure to sunlight for a long time -if not much improvement then consult a doctor as you may require a course of antibiotics.

Aortic Valve Stenosis - How Can It Be Treated?

MBBS, Master of Surgery - General Surgery, Magistrar Chirurgiae (Cardio-Thoracic Surgery)
Cardiologist, Faridabad
Aortic Valve Stenosis - How Can It Be Treated?

The heart is a wonderfully designed pump that takes care of proper functioning of the body. There are two separate channels, through which pure and impure blood flows through. Blood flow in these two designated networks is one-sided completely and controlled by valves. There are 2 sets of valves as below:

  1. Aortic and pulmonary valves which controls blood flow from the ventricles to the aorta and to the lungs respectively
  2. The mitral and tricuspid valves control blood flow from the atria (upper chambers) to the ventricles (lower chambers).

These valves are meant to be elastic and fibrous and open and close freely to allow for blood flow. Due to various reasons, they can become stenosed (hard and narrow) and depending on which valve is affected, complications arise accordingly.

The aortic valve is extremely important in that its proper functioning ensures that pure, oxygenated blood reaches various parts of the body. Due to various reasons, this valve may not open and/or close properly. Some causes include calcium deposits, advanced age, rheumatic fever, endocarditis, etc. With age or deposits, the valve opening can become narrow and reduce the amount of blood flowing into the aorta. The following symptoms and complications arise out of this.

  1. The heart needs to put extra pressure to pump out blood into the aorta
  2. The left ventricle therefore grows thicker
  3. The symptoms will take a long time to manifest, as the heart will work on alternate measures, but after a certain point, symptoms will show up including chest pain, fatigue with minimal exertion, shortness of breath, and racing heartbeats.
  4. As the heart has its own compensating mechanisms, symptoms show up when the condition is much serious. Therefore, onset of these symptoms requires immediate medical attention.

Diagnosis: This could be diagnosed with routine medical exam when the heart is being checked or it could only be diagnosed when the symptoms are seen as above. Treatment is easier in the earlier case, and requires more rigorous attention.

Management: If the stenosis is mild and was detected on routine exam, then it needs to be monitored periodically. Surgery is usually not done, unless it is very severe. However, preventive measures can be taken including

  1. Avoiding over-exertion
  2. Heart-healthy diet can be taken to prevent further damage
  3. Reduce sodium intake
  4. Quit smoking

If the stenosis is severe, then surgery is the only definitive treatment measure. Valve surgery can be either a

  1. Balloon valvuloplasty – the valve opening is enlarged
  2. Replacement – valve replacement is usually done as an open heart surgery.

Though aortic stenosis is a serious condition, it is also rare and can be managed by adopting an overall healthy lifestyle.
