It is not cancer, as it has pain with menstruation it is most probably fibroadenoma, a benign tumor. Do not worry about that as it will be got reduced in future.

DNB, MBBS

If it is soft, mobile, well defined it may be benign and can be observed. Otherwise you can get a needle biopsy done to know the nature of lump. There is no other option to get rid of lump than to excise it, if it is benign.

My father age is 75. He has third stage throat cancer. How long he may survive? he may tolerate radiotherapy?

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS, DNB (Radiotherapy)
Oncologist
Ask Free Question
Throat cancer can occur in larynx, oropharynx and hypopharynx. You didn't mention the specific site. Primary treatment for these sites is chemoradiotherapy. However prognosis depends on site. Survival after treatment is good for oropharynx and laryngopharynx, worse for hypopharynx. At 75 yrs of age, probably only radiotherapy will be given. Of his general condition is good, then go with radiotherapy. This is the only chance of cure.

Hi lybrate-user, supplements do have a role in preventing cancers. However, it is always advisable to consult a medical/ alternative medicine practitioner who can assess the need appropriately, and recommend rightly. Eating red meat and processed meat is likely to increase the risks of certain cancers. Therefore, their consumption is best restricted. In the best interest of health, its always better to go for a nutritious and balanced diet (preferably mediterranean) that includes adequate roughage and water. Along with the above-mentioned, a healthy lifestyle with daily exercise, de-stressing, relaxation, psycho-social interaction and a positive mindset goes a long way in keeping this often chronic, dreaded and debilitating disease like cancer at bay or reduce the risk significantly. Hope this clarifies. Take care and all the very best.

Hi, we need to see the lesion first and than discuss whether it can cause cancer or not. There is cancer called malignant melanoma related with it and it can occur in the mouth too. You should not worry. If you have the lesion on skin than visit a dermatologist and if in mouth, visit an oral medicine specialist. Whenever there is doubt, this lesion can be removed and biopsied. If your melanoplakia is absolutely fine, than we can leave it as it is. Regards.

Cancer is uncontrolled proliferation of transformed cells in any part of the body. Neoplasm or tumor are used variably to describe any swelling or new growth. Benign growths don’t have potential to spread to other organs or parts of the body while malignancy or malignant growths have uncontrolled proliferation and metastatic potential. Transformation is multistep process with genetic alterations by which normal cells acquire malignant potential, uncontrolled proliferation capacity and capacity to spread to other parts of the body (metastasis) Worldwide cancer is responsile for 1 in 8 deaths. Most Common cancers are: Men Women Prostate breast Lung cervix and endometrium Colorectal lung What Causes Cancer? Cancer is usually multifactorial 1. Cancer Screening: screening is for healthy individuals with education. Rather than going for unnecessary blind tests, programme for screening should be planned in consultation with your oncologist as requirements are different for different cancers and differs as per age groups and gender. Also screening is not effective in all cancers. Cancer education and awareness is has due importance. Some cancers in which screening has been shown to be effective includes breast, coclon, rectum, cervix, prostate, lung in high risk groups but as mentioned earlier it is planned with participation of both individual and oncologist.

Hi, My aunt is suffering from breast cancer (stage 3) and her age is 75 years. Cyto Pathology-FNAC report says, Cytological features are in favour of Ductal Hyperplasia with moderate atypia Cytology report: FNAc is positive for malignant cells, suggestive of mucinous carcinoma/mixed mucinous and invasive ductal carcinoma (NOS) Do we need to surgery? Considering her age is the surgery best option for her?

MD - Radiothrapy, MBBS
Oncologist
Ask Free Question
Before planning treatment we should consider her age and General health. If she is fit then for stage 3 there are two ways of treatment. We can go ahead with surgery if operable or we can give chemotherapy first to reduce tumor size and then do the surgery. She will need radiation therapy also for stage 3 disease.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciagte you seeking help. First and foremost, I would advise that you stay cool and not be overly anxious. Gynecomastia does not mean breast cancer. It is a benign enlargement of the breast tissue triggered mostly by hormonal imbalance, the exact underlying cause of which needs to be ascertained. You should visit an endocrinologist and get this clinically examined in person. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely.

I am 49 years old, my problem is that I am suffering from Chronic Leukemia, and my question is how long can such patient live with medication of IMATINIB 400 mg?

Ask Free Question
Hi, imatinib 400 mg, as I understand, is an approved targeted therapy for front-line management of chronic myeloid leukemia (cml), success of which depends on whether or not it has been able to achieve a timely haematological response as expected. Imatinib is good so long as your disease is chronic, not advanced and is not resistant to imatinib. Your medical oncologist can best comment on the overall survival aspects, nevertheless. However, its advisable that you complement conventional care with appropriate alternative medicines so as to fast track treatment, and optimize clinical outcomes.
