My father has undergone bypass surgery 14 years back and he has travelled by air before his surgery but after that he has always travelled by trains only. Our native is tirunelveli so to save time in travelling I am planning to send him by flight so is it ok? He will be safe during his journey right?

It is true that levels of oxygen are lower at higher altitudes ,even within aeroplanes but with new technology the oxygen levels within plane are okay. low levels of oxygen do trigger a heart attack. let him carry a small portable oxygen cylinder with him and breathe oxygen within plane without asking the crew for it ,though they do have it as all of us are aware about emergency situations , oxygen masks are dropped but why bother. there should be no difficulty in taking permission but do make everything very clear so that he does not face problems at airport during clearance.

Hello dear High cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. garlic,. Take anti cholesterol medicines .

I'm 22 years old. I've been smoking for 6 months. When I started smoking, I used to smoke 10 cigarettes in a day. 1 month ago I started smoking 2 cigarettes a day. 2 weeks ago I was having liquor on a friend's birthday (I drink occasionally) after that we had vaang with malai kulfi. First 1 hour I was ok but then when I got back home, I started feeling suffocated and also started vomiting, feeling weak, legs started shaking, chest pain etc. I took pankreoflat after that and PAN40 and everything came back to normal. Next day I was alright and had home made breakfast, lunch, dinner and didn't smoke. 2 days later I had pizza and I felt uneasy. It felt like something stuck inside my chest. I was shocked but it got stopped after few hours of rest. From then on I started taking home made food and take green tea twice in a day and drink lots of water. But sometimes I feel like the food is not going down , it gets stuck somewhere in chest. I also feel chest pain in the morning. Is this digestion problem or lungs problem and what should I do now?

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. You neither have digestive disorder nor lung disorder. Buf the problem is reflex related to acidity. You are doing well. Make sure to consume only homely food without much spices and oil. Exercise regularly. Include ginger and garlic in your daily diet. You will be alright in a week. Take care.

Thanks for the query. Please tell me whether you are on treatment for diabetes ?Why was the test done? The information is not really correct and complee. Because HDL & TGL numbers look ok. But Total Cholesterol (47.6 mg) looks to be incorrect. HDL 32 is lower than expected. TGL is high. Fasting glucose is suggestive of presence of diabetes. It is better if full lipid profile and diabetic profile is done. That is Fasting, Pp blood glucose, HbA1c%, & Total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL, HDL & TGL. Plus give details of your weight and height.

Hi. For anybody who has raised bp at a younger age, thorough investigation are to be done to look for cause of bp. Just taking bp pills is not the solution. Discuss about this with your doctor. Also, first make sure that your bp is really raised all time. Many times, bp rises temporarily due to apprehension, fear or anxiety. You can consider 24 hours ambulatory bp monitoring test. Take care.

Hi, Normal heart beat is 70-80 per min. Your heart beat is very high and it is usually called as cardiac arrhythmias. Take out an ECG and consult a cardiologist at the earliest. Brisk walk will increase the heart beats all the more. Therefore it is not advised in this case.

What are the best ways 2 reduce cholesterol or high blood pressure? Please suggest
Hello Salt, oil, sugar and fat are the four main ingredients for high cholesterol as well as high blood pressure. Kindly keep a check on these items in your daily meals. You should equally give importance to regular routinely exercise in form of either walk, yoga etc. Kindly walk 30 minutes daily, drink plenty of water, consume oats, barley, beans, nuts, fiber rich food items etc and keep a balance between diet and exercise. Homoeopathic treatment will also help in your case. Eat healthy, be healthy, tc.
