I am a mother of 8 month old daughter. I still didn't know what food to give to increase my baby's immunity and weight. Please suggest any food chart to increase my baby weight and immunity for healthy life?

Dear lybrate-user, I hope that you are still feeding your baby with your breastmilk. After the baby is six months of age, along with breast milk, please add well mashed boiled vegetables, fruits like banana and cereals like rice and dalia. Start with one item and 4/5 tsf of food and increase the quantity as accepted. Number of feeds can be increased every week till the baby is taking 3 big meals of half of a 200 to 250 ml bowl. By 7 to 8 months of ageDo not add sugar or salt to the food. It is preferable and healthier to give freshly cooked home food rather than use processed tinned food sold ready to use. By the time the baby is 10 to 12 months he can eat all food that the family eats provided it is evenly mashed and soft as baby's grinding teeth have not yet erupted. HAPPY FEEDING!

Babies who are not sucking on mother's nipple may be having nipple confusion and breast refusal if they are getting bottle feeds. The mother should see a good lactation consultant with her baby to see the problem and learn hands on how to let the baby latch correctly

My daughter 5 year old having stomach pain in every morning can you suggest please what can be a cause for the same and remedy.

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Postgraduate Diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Your daughter most likely is constipated (evevn if she is passing stool daily) or there is early morning tension of running to school. She will need a detailed evaluation by her pediatrician. You will have to visit in person with the child and mother as there could be a psychological component to this pain.

My son who is 8 year old. If he drinks milk or take any food in the morning, he omits it. During day time whatever he eats he digests it properly. The problem occurs only early morning. Please suggest me what to do?

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Postgraduate Diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
This problem is mainly psychological. The stress of hurrying up to go to school makes many children refuse to eat, or vomit if forced to eat or drink. Please speak to your pediatrician about this so you can get more specific guidance about how morning routines can be made more relaxed and see the result.

My son is 8 years old he is too weak in health but his diet is good but don't know the problem, he is too weak.

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Postgraduate Diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics

This is not adequate information. Many parents equate thin build with weakness .The child will have to get a proper growth and development evaluation and his past history and growth records will have to be scrutinised before we can arrive at any conclusion.

I have again done the stool test of my child. My child is 1 month 22 days old. The stool test report is as under: Colour- Yellow with Reddish streak. Consistency: Semisolid, Odour: Offensive, Mucus (), Reaction: Ph 6.0, Occult Blood: Positive (ve), RBC: 6-8/Hpf, Pus Cells: 2-3/ Hpf, Bacteria flora: Normal, Veg Cells, Starch, Fat globules are Nil. We see some little drops of blood in his stool when he passes stool most of time. Dr. (Pediatrician) advised us to go surgeon for checking the cause of blood in stool. But our child is normal habitual, sleep well, no fever and only breastfeeding. So what is the cause of blood in his stool.

If the baby is breastfeeding exclusively and gaining weight and sleeping to the mother's satisfaction there does not seem to be a cause for worry. Please check if there is redness and cracks in the anal skin due to frequent rough cleaning. This may be a cause for blood in stool. If the baby is getting any topmilk, milk allergy can also manifest like this.

I'm asking this question on behalf of my wife and child. Our baby is three months old and she is facing a nipple confusion due to which my wife is facing a low BM. We had our daughter on July. It was a c-section delivery. After tat our daughter was admitted in NICO for 5 days due to bilirubin. He's health became complicated and she lost weight. My wife was breastfeeding her but prid was not gaining much weight. So our pediatrician advised us to get her to bottle milk. (Similac advanced stage 1). Pls advice. What can be done to make sure our baby is breastfeeding again and is it possible to increase the BM. Cause she is really stressed and worried about the baby's health.

Introducing a bottle with nipple will lead to nipple confusion and breast refusal. The tension and anxiety to feed the baby will further interfere with mother's milk let down.First the mother should relax and feed the baby at her breast as often as is demanded.and stop using bottle and nipple.Use a katori and spoon instead.Slowly the baby will stop taking top milk and prefer to feed at the breast. It would be useful to take the guidance of a competent lactation consultant in your area. This is a slow but successful method.

Sir, my daughter 6 years old suffers from regular cold and suffers from heavy cough. In such condition she suffers from RESPIRATORY problem. We treat her with nebulization (Asthalin or duolin) but its a temporary relief. Regularly she suffers from high itching and rashes at body joints, especially hands joints, legs, throat, chest. How to get rid of this problem permanently.

Pediatrician, Gurgaon
This is atopy with hyper reactive airways. She will benefit from using inhaledcorticosteroids which will have to be prescribed by a pediatrician after examining her. Her skin condition will gradually improve with time and treatment.

Most likely your daughter has allergic cough or frequent recurrent viral respiratory infections. I hope your daughter is not still bottle feeding, esp. At bedtime as this could be the reason for frequent cough. Cakes biscuits chips and chocolates are generally very high sugary foods and not recommended for daily consumption.

Dear lybrate-user, you have not mentioned the birthweight of your baby----was it the same or less. This is important for the doctor to decide if the baby is growing normally. Many mothers mistake the nasal sounds that baby makes while feeding, as cold and cough. Babies on only mother's milk do not catch colds easily, esp at that age of 3 weeks. Please have him assessed by a doctor for cold. Vomiting or regurgitation is common in babies and not a cause for concern if baby is sucking briskly, feeding well and passing urine 8to 10 times a day and stools of breastfed babies are usually loose. Do not worry too much and relax and enjoy your baby instead of spending too much time on google to see what is wrong with your baby. Feed your baby as often as she asks and not by the clock. This will go a long way to increase milk production.

Fever cough and cold are viral infections 90% of the time and donot warrant clavam, a drug used for severe infections. Kindly see a doctor for examintion and and decide the actual diagnosis. Fever usuall settles in 3to 5 days without antibiotics like clavam and cold and cough improve in one week.

My Son 4.5 years old how to get rid of his bedwetting problem. Please suggest how to stop bed wetting. Is it dangerous if not cured?

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Postgraduate Diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Some children continue to bedwet upto 5years and a few even beyond. It is important to have an evaluation for treatable causes of bedwetting like urinary tract infection, unrecgnised constipation or incomplete evacuation, presence of threadworms etc.

Is your baby in a daycare/creche? are you in a joint family? usually babies this age catch various viral infections as cough and cold with or without fever from other children or adult contacts. This is usually acceptable so long as they continue to grow normally and are not anemic. Each episode should be treated symptomatically.
