Please note that the cause of pain needs to be identified and treated. Do hot compresses take mag phos 6x - twice daily for next 7 days and get back to me for proper treatment.

I have problem in knees I can not walk it hurts a lot. I walk like baby's on my knees.
Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

I have a severe back pain. I am 27 years old. Please provide me the solution to recover from this pain.
First of all check your posture when you are lifting any material like heavy bucket. And try to lift the heavy bucket without bending your back. You may lift the bucket after bending your knees only. This will definitely help you. * gentle massage with lukewarm mustard oil of your waist area will also give you relief. * surya namaskar is only exercise which you need to do. * in diet vegetable protein of cereal, b complex supplements and half teaspoon of haldi in a cup of milk for seven days will give you enough relief.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have actually mentioned back ache and pain in your knees as your main problem. It is obvious that there are some degenerative changes which have set in your joints both in back and knee regions. To proceed in your case 1) for knees: please tell me duration of pain and what are aggravating factors? how much distance can you walk and what is the analgesic requirement to carry out activities of daily routine? what medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. I also need to see your latest knee x rays so that I know what grade of arthritis are we dealing with on your case? 2) for your back: kindly elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias (electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Knee Pain - 9 Interesting Ways You Can Manage It!

Knee pain can be more debilitating than other body pains given that it can limit a person’s mobility. For a person who is used to moving about, limited mobility can be very upsetting. It can also lead to emotional issues like depression due to losing independence. While wear and tear with age (osteoarthritis) was the most common cause of knee pain, altered lifestyles have caused more people to have knee pain due to lack of physical exercise.

The age group which has knee pain and the severity have changed. However, there are various non-medical methods which have been proven to be safer and also effective in managing this knee pain and keeping a person on their feet.

  1. Exercise: As soon as you realize that your joints are acting up, get expert help and get a set of exercise which will help you stay on the move. This should help both in pain relief and in arresting further damage of the joints. The ligaments and muscles should be worked routinely without exceeding limits and causing further damage. In most cases, guided by a good physio, pain can be managed well and disease progression arrested.
  2. Hydrotherapy: Try warm water (or a warm towel wrap) to which Epsom salt can be added. This will improve blood circulation and reduce pain.
  3. Acupuncture: Relieving the pressure points by using small needles help in managing the nerves and provides pain relief.
  4. Massage: One of the best-proven techniques, using warm herbal oils like tea tree oil, eucalyptus oil, etc., can provide very good pain relief. These penetrate into the skin and are also known to have medicinal benefits.
  5. Yoga: Different asanas are meant for different parts of the body. There are asanas meant specifically to improve knee flexibility and function, which can provide great pain relief.
  6. Quit alcohol: Alcohol can worsen any sleep issues, and this can further aggravate pain. A sound sleep is one of the best ways to get pain relief, so anything which comes in the way of a good sleep should be managed.
  7. Quit smoking: Smoking affects blood flow adversely and reduces pain tolerance. One of the best ways to improve the overall quality of life is to quit smoking.
  8. Pain tracker: Maintain a pain tracker and look for patterns. When is the pain worse, what worsens it, which part is affected, etc. This can help you identify exercises and methods which can help in controlling the pain.
  9. Social support: Whether it is your earlier or the next generation, get physical and emotional help. Take your grandkids to play along with you, and see your pain vanish into thin air.

Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.
