Probably she was emotionally abused by the relatives and she has got hurt deeply. May be she has a different perception about their behaviour and is unable to understand their intentions. You need to talk to a counsellor. It will help you both, individually and you will be able to improve your marital bond.

Actually I smoke I thought to stop smoking. Properly stop. Whenever I don't smoke the cough will come.

MD-siddha, bachelor of siddha medicine and surgery
Siddha Specialist,
Hi, this is a symptom of addiction. First of all I wish you all success in your mission to stop smoking. Yes, really it's a mission. But anybody can achieve this. You first think that you can do this. Where there is a will there is a way. You don't think to leave it suddenly. You should stop step by step. You can use nicotine chewing gums initially. Then step by step reduce it. To get rid of the nicotine poisoning take plenty of water, take sesbania leaves, ginger, lemon juice to reduce nicotine poisoning.

Hand exercise dear, you can do it, 1……. Make a Fist Hand and finger exercises can help strengthen your hands and fingers, increase your range of motion, and give you pain relief. Stretch only until you feel tightness. You shouldn't feel pain. Start with this simple stretch: •Make a gentle fist, wrapping your thumb across your fingers. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds. Release and spread your fingers wide. •Repeat with both hands at least four times. Finger Stretch Try this stretch to help with pain relief and to improve the range of motion in your hands: •Place your hand palm-down on a table or other flat surface. •Gently straighten your fingers as flat as you can against the surface without forcing your joints. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds and then release. •Repeat at least four times with each hand. Claw Stretch This stretch helps improve the range of motion in your fingers. •Hold your hand out in front of you, palm facing you. •Bend your fingertips down to touch the base of each finger joint. Your hand should look a little like a claw. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds and release. Repeat at least four times on each hand. Grip Strengthener This exercise can make it easier to open door knobs and hold things without dropping them. •Hold a soft ball in your palm and squeeze it as hard as you can. •Hold for a few seconds and release. •Repeat 10 to 15 times on each hand. Do this exercise two to three times a week, but rest your hands for 48 hours in between sessions. Don't do this exercise if your thumb joint is damaged. It is very good medicine. Dose is very less. You take few or minimum risk, keep busy in positive things, avoid addiction, keep engaged in pranayam etc. In that way you can protect urself from next recurrence of dis.

Then the diagnosis may not be depression, since the results with antidepressants are excellent, rarely we see resistant depression. Get a 2nd opinion from another psychiatrist, and get evaluated in detail.

Dear Shubham , academic results depend not only on how much you work hard but also on 'How you work. It is not so much about the number of hours you put in, it is more about how well you understand what you are studying. Stop comparing yourself to others. Also, you must practice to write answers to questions related to the topic that you have prepared. Attempting previous years' question papers helps build your confidence in the topics you have studied and also enhances your speed of solving the paper. You will be able to cover up your backs if you focus more on how you are studying.

Ocd is based on fear of an abnormal kind. You have done the right thing by trying cbt and since that has not produced the desired effect, it is time to include medication. This can become a very crippling disease and you should not burden yourself or your wife with the length of time for the treatment. All psychotropic drugs have side-effects. So you will have to bear with that and focus on the main problem. Please take her parents with you to determine the possible developmental issues that may have contributed to this condition. This is a fear-based condition and for some reason, she has not been dealing with this childhood fear which has now developed into these repetitive adaptations to seem to need it for normal functioning. The behavior will then become based on magical thinking and certain rituals will become necessary to do normal things making her believe that either the frequency or the ritual is important to its success. This, of course, is a fallacy but there will come a time that even if told the truth, her belief will defy any logic and she will continue behaving like that even if it cripples her in her daily routines. It only appears as though some other force is behind these behaviors and that she is compelled to act in this fashion. That is obviously not true but no one can convince her of anything different. The obsession is a repeating thought pattern with no meaningful outcome; and the compulsiveness is the need to act on those obsessions also in a repeated behavior pattern as though she just cannot help herself, like the washing if hands. There are certain behavioral techniques to be implemented and if they work she may get out of this condition rather easily. If that does not work as desired, then medication has to be introduced, and in combination with counseling much work can be achieved.

I keep depressed as my daughter's first marriage failed due to her wrong choice. She is V aggressive and doesn't want to listen to any one else. If required she even beats me. Hello. I am sure as a mother it is even more troubling to see your daughter go through this situation and the feeling of helplessness can be very distressing. First things though, please do not allow anyone to physically abuse you no matter who it maybe and protect yourself adequately. Try talking to her when she is not distressed and tell her how you feel instead of telling her what she should or should not do. Try using statements like" I am afraid that. Or" I feel sad when. Please also seek help from a psychiatrist to rule out any depression and also seek counseling.

Causes of Depression-

M.Sc Clinical Nutrition & Dietetics, P.G.Diploma in pachakarma, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Jaipur
Causes of Depression-
Depression Causes-

There is no single cause of depression. You can develop it for different reasons and it has many different triggers.
For some, an upsetting or stressful life event – such as bereavement, divorce, illness, redundancy and job or money worries – can be the cause.

Often, different causes combine to trigger depression. For example, you may feel low after an illness and then experience a traumatic event, such as bereavement, which brings on depression.

People often talk about a "downward spiral" of events that leads to depression. For example, if your relationship with your partner breaks down, you're likely to feel low, so you stop seeing friends and family and you may start drinking more. All of this can make you feel even worse and trigger depression.
Some studies have also suggested you're more likely to get depression as you get older, and that it's more common if you live in difficult social and economic circumstances.

Stressful events-
Most people take time to come to terms with stressful events, such as bereavement or a relationship breakdown. When these stressful events happen, you have a higher risk of becoming depressed if you stop seeing your friends and family and you try to deal with your problems on your own.

Illness-
You may have a higher risk of depression if you have a long standing or life-threatening illness, such as coronary heart disease or cancer.
Head injuries are also an often under-recognised cause of depression. A severe head injury can trigger mood swings and emotional problems.

Some people may have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) resulting from problems with their immune system. In rarer cases a minor head injury can damage the pituitary gland, a pea-sized gland at the base of your brain that produces thyroid-stimulating hormones.
This can cause a number of symptoms, such as extreme tiredness and a loss of interest in sex (loss of libido), which can in turn lead to depression.

Personality-
You may be more vulnerable to depression if you have certain personality traits, such as low self-esteem or being overly self-critical. This may be because of the genes you've inherited from your parents, or because of your early life experiences.

Family history-
If someone else in your family has suffered from depression in the past, such as a parent or sister or brother, then it's more likely you will too.

Giving birth-
Some women are particularly vulnerable to depression after pregnancy. The hormonal and physical changes, as well as added responsibility of a new life, can lead to postnatal depression.

Loneliness-
Becoming cut off from your family and friends can increase your risk of depression.

Alcohol and drugs-
Some people try to cope when life is getting them down by drinking too much alcohol or taking drugs. This can result in a spiral of depression.
Cannabis helps you relax, but there is evidence that it can bring on depression, especially in teenagers.
And don't be tempted to drown your sorrows with a drink. Alcohol is categorised as a "strong depressant" and actually makes depression worse.
Depression can be triggered by more than one factor.

What should I eat to increase my ability to focus?

Post Graduate Diploma In Rehabilitation Psychology, M A Clinical Psychology
Psychologist,
Hi Ability to focus is more to do with span of attention & concentration. Ofcourse a balanced diet is must that shall include vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. In order to increase your ability to focus develop few habits. Make a to-do list of things you want to complete or accomplish. Prioritize & assign time limits for each. Take one task at a time. Avoid multitasking. Plan atleast 1 gadget free hour, preferably towards the end of the day. Identify one habit/activity that instantly charge you up. Practice it more often. Identify the time of the day when you feel most energetic. Different people have different energy levels during various hours of the day/night. Take up your priority task in these hours. Staying organized helps you focus more on task @ hand. I hope it helps. Here is a link to my blog, take a look to find out more ways to plan, organized and remain focused. https://samyagdarshan.wordpress.com/2014/10/13/procrastination-evil-twin-of-success/ ALL THE BEST!!

Dear Lybrate user. I can understand. At your age, memory problems like amnesia, dementia etc are not possible. Don't worry. The present lack of memory could be due to busy and stressed life style. I need to conduct a memory test to determine the problem. Take care.

I am 30 years old and my wife is 26 years. We got married in 2012, February and its been 4.5 years around we are trying for a baby but unfortunately not successful. We went to gynecologist and they referred us for some tests and after the results we got there are some small issues with me and very small issues with my wife like hyperthyroid which were told to us that it is not so much tensions type of things and we can try till last. I am worrying about one issue like people says that time is very precious and after that nothing can be done. I am taking very tensions for small small things and trying to become cool and calm but it is again not done. Even we both are having some words disputes in which I always harsh on her and for which I think it should not be done as I found to be guilty. When we sometime have a mood to do for a baby we need something to help like laptop/movie to have some mood to reach out there to do. I hope you understand. Also we can not do for long last and complete withing 10 minutes. I am taking some medicines also of himalaya like Gokshura/seacod/ and one more virkshmala. Please suggest if anything can be done for any remedies.

Hi lybrate-user, first of all, de stress yourself, this is a part and phase of life not your whole life, do not let it define you. The stress you are taking will take toll on your body and it is because of this reason that you are not excited enough when its time to get intimate. Don't think about baby while having sex, think of it as something that gives you pleasure focus on your partner. Do not smoke, drink, have dark chocolates and fresh fruits, more garlic and dates. Do kegels exercise for sustained erection. You need some therapy for your stress too. Consult a psychologist. You can consult me for same. All the best.

My father got homeopathic medicine for parkinson last week. After taking medicine his body got burns like sores. what it means?

MD - Psychiatry, MBBS
Psychiatrist, Patna
Low potency homeopathic medicines may cause allergic reaction sometimes. Parkinson's disease is a neurological illness, which is gradually worsening condition. Researches have proven that with allopathy we can control its symptoms. Homeopathy does not have such a solid evidence. He may stop homeopathic medicines. He should take antiallergic treatment from local hospital. Later on, my suggestion is to continue allopathic medicines.

I have very scary dreams daily why is it so I am very much concerned about this please help me.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd

I have very scary dreams daily why is it so I am very much concerned about this please help me.
Your dreams manifest that there is something that you are scared of. If it is daily, there is a repeated reminder for some action to be taken regarding your fear. Meet with a counselor and explore the problem of fear and it origins. Since it is manifesting in your dreams there is all likelihood that it is coming from your unconscious mind and this normally harbors memories from the far past. In therapy, this is what has to be explored. At your age, I would suggest that you take your parents to the meeting with the counselor and they can enlighten the process with specific details of your upbringing to throw light on this development. Accordingly, much work can be done to then eliminate the fear-based dreams that are haunting you.
